Trading gold across game types

I just rolled on WOTLK classic and may just stay on it and retire my retail character. The question is are we allowed to trade gold between game types? For example, I sell off all of my gold on d in exchange for gold on Westfall? Of course another player who has characters on both WRA and Westfall would have to agree and help facilitate this.

There aren’t rules against it. Just absolutely be aware that it is 100% UNSUPPORTED.

What that means is that if it goes south, you won’t get your gold returned to you. It also means that if the person you’re receiving your gold from on Westfall is giving you illegal gold? You’re putting your account in jeopardy.

We’ve had so many suspensions and bans due to these kinds of transactions, I can’t even fathom a good estimated number at this point. Even your bestest friend in the whole world giving you gold does not mean that you’re safe. Just because you don’t know that the gold was gained illegally, does not mean you’re safe.

You’re going into an extremely high-risk transaction - period. It doesn’t even matter if you’re finding someone through one of the Discord servers that has ratings and reviews - there have been people who’ve gotten burned from those just as easily as they have any other source.

Would be very mindful of trying this unless the person you are trading with you know them very well. Plenty of gold sellers that are involved with this and you could end up with stolen gold or nothing in return.

Seen a few people come here only after they got actioned because they took gold from a gold seller with out knowing.

I’d be very careful with this sort of wording too. You’re not allowed to “sell” your gold to someone else. This implies real money trading (RMT) and is a violation of the rules.

As the others already mentioned, trading gold is extremely risky unless you actually know the other person and have very good reason to trust them. If you end up with illicit gold, you can expect your account to be actioned up to and possibly including a permanent ban.

If you’re looking for advice, just earn your gold legitimately and on your own. Pick two gathering professions and sell everything you pick up on the AH.

So relevant links have already been posted.

While this is a totally unsupported transaction, unsupported does not mean prohibited.

But the REASONS it is unsupported are very important.

If you get cheated - we cannot help.

If you are unknowingly dealing with gold sellers (and there are lots of them in that space) - we cannot help, and you are quite likely to face the consequences.

This is a very VERY risky activity.

To expand on this, first ask yourself why someone is willing to trade difficult-to-get Classic gold for easy-to-get Retail gold. Yes, there can be legitimate reasons, but generally speaking, offering a more valuable resource for a less valuable resource is a red flag that should be considered.

Also, do not deal with anyone who wants you to “join their Discord” to complete a transaction. Make sure everything is in-game. Wanting to talk about it in Discord is like saying “hey, let’s go around the corner where these cameras can’t see what we’re up to”.

Well said and those discords they want you to join are havens for gold sellers. They get clean gold that is not stolen and you either get stolen gold or nothing at all. Yes retail gold is easy to come by, with a token you can very easily get a lot of gold for very little with zero risk but in classic not so much.

The exchange rate comes out to 5k gold on WOTLK to 100k retail. I have concluded that it would not be worth the hassle of setting up Discord, screening players, and all that neat stuff. Since I have not been active since 2013, I do not know anyone nor have any contacts on Discord / Battlenet (friendslist empty). d gets to keep her gold

Others have come here after they got suspeneded or banned and they though they screened players only to find out they traded with a gold seller and turned into a RMT violation. So yes not worth it.
