Well surprise, surprise…
No not really.

Which is why the mature language filter is turned on by default, but that’s not good enough for some people, they have to stick their noses into what people who aren’t them are saying to each other, even though they can’t even read it.
That isn’t an excuse to break the rules - the filter isn’t there to go against what you agree to. More so when you think your actions don’t have consequences. Don’t want to be reported for what you say? Don’t say anything that is against the rules, like cursing, being toxic or just be a downright horrible person.
If you can’t handle yourself typing something against the rules, maybe turning off chat would be a good idea.
The rules are stupid, and aren’t even consistent. I can freely say that something is crap, and that’s perfectly within the rules.
There seems to be a bit of misunderstanding.
Blizzard is actioning based on intent; it doesn’t matter whether you were cussing and the filter caught it, OR that you were purposely transmitting a series of random symbols.
The mature language filter is, so to speak, a “last line of defense”. They don’t want you to cuss at all.
I don’t know what rules you think there are, but that’d be what falls under the whole ‘toxic’ thing. If you can’t behave around others - name calling, belittling others, starting fights, etc. - then they (Blizzard) would be withing their rights to action the account.
I believe calling someone something negative. Is against TOS. Swear word or not.
You have been here a long time. You know the language filter does not, in any way, give permission for people to break the rules.
You’ve been here a long time, you know the issue people have is that the rules are not consistent and are haphazardly enforced.
If only that were true. Just look at the name-calling leveled at raiders on this forum for years now, and nothing is EVER done about it.
That is always frustrating, sure. They currently depend on players to report language that violates the rules. That will result in only those being penalized. Same with forum reports for the most part.
The only way they would have 100% even enforcement is if they had AI scanning our chats in real time and penalizing everyone. I don’t think you really want that, do you? I know I don’t.
not enough reports.
That’s true. If enough people flag a post. It’s usually hidden. Even if it is a positive comment or not.
Freedom of speech doesnt apply to forums or ingame.
I didn’t say the moderators I said the developers.
They don’t have AI reading and acting on forum posts/reports. The software can only send a notice if users flag you enough (3 to 5 flags). Beyond that it takes a Mod to do anything. Removing a post, editing a post, or penalizing a user is entirely human.
The topic summaries for feedback? I think that is a forum tool built into the Discourse software? It does not mean the Community Managers get out of doing their jobs to read and collect feedback. It may help them see what is trending, but it is not a substitute for actually reading.
It will get turned grey pending Mod review, but can be clicked on and read. It is not removed until a Mod does something with it - either to remove the post or remove the flag.
I didn’t say anything about “freedom of speech”, I said that Blizzard’s rules are inconsistent and haphazardly enforced. Please read my posts before replying to them, thank you.
You guys aren’t even reading what I’m typing.
I said DEVELOPERS. I wasn’t even talking about the forum moderation.
People are reading it, you’re just not listening.
BTW, the thread is in the CS forum, a heavily watch placed.
