The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Blizzard has announced some features of the upcoming .7 patch:

The main particular thing of interest is that the Monk class is coming to Goblins, Worgen, and Lightforge Draenei:

Iā€™ve already had the Monk class listed for Saurok, but seeing all current playable races, aside from Dracthyr, getting the Monk class gets me to think that we may see that class for future playable races.

I canā€™t really say if playable Saurok models would utilize Worgen skeletons and animations like the NPC versions do, but it could help to implement Saurok Monks if they happen to. Iā€™m not sure realistically what direction playable Saurok models would go, aside from having them built from the ground up at least.

Itā€™s also not too out there for a class option for them, seeing as they were created on Pandaria and most of them reside there, which is pretty much where the Monk class has been popular as a career choice and pastime. Not to mention that Saurok Monks would mean that people could recreate their Iksar Monk characters from Everquest 1, which would likely be a popular choice as a result and make people happy.

The opening of class options for playable races has been interesting and exciting to see. It also helps open the door for future playable races and their class choices as well. Weā€™ll see what other race/class options open in the future, and Iā€™ll be sure to report on that whenever new combos open up. :lizard:

A few posts ago I came across a miniatures company that had a video showing off their Lizardfolk Shaman miniature. I found some more Lizardfolk miniatures they make, which Iā€™ll share for the usual Saurok idea inspiration. These are Lizardfolk Warrior miniatures:

I get the feeling as I see more of these, Iā€™d be tempted to get an army of Lizardfolk from them. Maybe with more character slots, Iā€™d have an army of Saurok characters someday as well. :lizard:

Came across more Lizardfolk miniatures from the company Iā€™ve shared other miniatures before, which Iā€™ll post on here for the usual Saurok idea inspiration. These ones are of Lizardfolk Sentries:

Will keep an eye out for other Lizardmen related stuff to share to help Saurok idea inspiration. Things like these are great for imagining Saurok in armor and also customization options. :lizard:

Things like this just show how very cool the Saurok could be if Blizzard expanded them and added them as an AR.

The potential of Saurok is one of the reasons I went all-in and created this megathread in the first place.

Sure, I want them playable of course and it was a reason, but I had to look at it logically to see if it could work and find other reasons. This includes:

-A Lizardman theme, which is different from a dragon theme.

-A great antagonist with the Mogu.

-Great backstory with their creation and finding their place in a new world (of Warcraft!).

-Fitting the Horde and its theme very well.

-Can either play a big role in an expansion or a part of it, like with allied races.

-Lots of great customization potential.

There are more reasons that Iā€™ll likely keep harping on, but I still hope to see them get more love in the future. And a spot on the Horde side of that character creator someday! :lizard:

adding them along with the Mogu for the Alliance is something Iā€™d love to see.
Both races are such amazing groups and Iā€™d love to see their interaction.

It would be a pretty good pair, though I do wonder if that is a possibility if the Horde and Alliance war is being downplayed a lot still in the forseeable future.

Itā€™s hard for me to imagine Saurok in general ever being friendly enough to any Mogu, even if they were on opposite factions. If there was ever a faction kerfuffle, then I could see it factoring into that. Not impossible to ever see this pairing otherwise, of course. Itā€™s just something to ponder on.

But hey, if it gave us playable Horde Saurok, Iā€™d be all for it. :lizard:

The Trading Post on NA servers appears to be upā€¦for now. There have been several issues with it on European servers, so I donā€™t if theyā€™re functional and if they are, how long theyā€™ll be. Best to keep an open mind on it.

List of this monthā€™s goodies is listed in this Wowhead article:

Nothing really Saurok related that I saw. Not that I expected anything of course. Iā€™ll be sure to keep an eye on what gets added in case anything does, though. :lizard:

Got a few more Lizardfolk miniature videos from the company Iā€™ve shown before in previous posts. First, some Lizardfolk Ceremonial Guards:

And this is one of a Lizardfolk shrine:

Sharing these for the usual Saurok idea inspiration. I can imagine them having ceremonial garb similar to the Lizardfolk above, especially with skulls part of it from hunts.

As usual, Iā€™ll keep an eye out for other Lizardmen race related stuff to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

Amazon US has the cover for the hardback version of Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria, shown below:

Iā€™ve always liked artwork on Pandaria. They always look amazing.

The book is still tentatively scheduled for October 17th, so we got a ways to go. The year just started however, so weā€™ll just enjoy the ride for now until we can do some potential Saurok research! :lizard:

Itā€™s the beginning of a new month, which means a new round of in-game suggestion feedback of races we want to see playable!

As with the beginning of each month, I send in in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly is reasonable.

If youā€™re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

We could use some more reptilian races on that character creation screen, so hopefully weā€™ll see Saurok on the Horde side someday! :lizard:

Came across a neat video that talks about some Lizardfolk facts in D&D gameplay and sharing some miniatures, most of which came from Warhammer, and areas they reside in. As usual, I wanted to share it for general Saurok idea inspiration. Video is here:

I will continue to search for Lizardmen related stuff to share for more Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

One of the classes of Lizardmen races I havenā€™t really gone over much would be Rogues. It is a fitting class for them, especially in terms of Saurok, and I went hunting for something to show off a Lizardman race that was of the class.

Iā€™ve come across one such art piece on good ole DeviantArt, which I hope people arenā€™t sick of me sharing from. This one is a Lizardfolk Rogue, which was created by richardsimpsonart and uploaded to the website on February 27th, 2020

ā€œScartail (DnD Commission)ā€ by richardsimpsonart on DeviantArt

Itā€™s a pretty good example of a Lizardmen race that is of the Rogue class. I think with the right scale colors, Saurok Rogues would be fairly popular. Not to mention fitting, since Iā€™m sure Saurok would be pretty good at scouting, usually for hunting related reasons. Iā€™m sure getting jumped by a reptile with sharp teeth and claws would scare the pants off anyone too.

As usual, Iā€™ll keep looking for Lizardmen race related art pieces to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration. Posts have been a bit slow lately since Iā€™ve been getting busy IRL, as well as still dealing with an annoying health issue that while it doesnā€™t seem serious, has been less than fun times to have. I suppose burnout from WoW is also a factor, but Iā€™m not planning on going anywhere of course. Someone has to give Ogres and Saurok some love after all! :japanese_ogre: :lizard:

You may know that in Everquest 1 and 2, Iksar were one of my favorite playable races. They were an inspiration of making Lizardmen in general a favorite fantasy race of mine, with my having the dream of making my Iksar characters as Saurok characters in WoW someday.

I came across a three video series that goes over the lore of the Iksar and the continent that they reside on, Kunark, that I wanted to share. There are a few similarities between Iksar and Saurok, and so I figured some good ole Saurok idea inspiration could come from these videos.

The videos are here:

As I mentioned before, itā€™s interesting how some Lizardmen races in fantasy were enslaved by usually evil beings, who then broke free and toppled their overlords. This applies to Iksar, Saurok, and Argonians. They are all different compared to each other, but still an interesting theme to point out.

Iksar are a race near and dear to me, since when I first came across Everquest, they were one of the first playable races I saw. They were really interesting to me with how all other races more or less didnā€™t like them, and it really added to the world (of Norrath!) at the time.

Some interesting parallels between them and Saurok, even if there are quite a number of differences. I still think Saurok have a lot of potential if they were given some love and would add a lot to the game. I mean, I wouldnā€™t be here typing several posts if I didnā€™t, but I also think with playable Saurok, they would entice people who use to play Iksar in Everquest to consider coming over to WoW to recreate them in the game. Monks would be an important class to them as a result, along with other classes as well.

Still hoping to recreate my Iksar characters as Saurok someday (Warlock and Death Knight classes), so that they can have all new adventures in the world (of Warcraft!) :lizard:

Had this music pop up in my YouTube recommendations that is general Lizardmen related. I donā€™t know the origins of it or if it is fan created, but I wanted to share it here:

Itā€™s a pretty good battle music. I could imagine Saurok fighting to this in a cinematic trailer or in-game cinematic. :lizard:

Iā€™d gladly trade dracthyr for saurok, if they have access to transmog and have males and females.

I donā€™t see why Saurok wouldnā€™t have females as an option. The Mogu grabbed a lot of reptiles in order to make Saurok and some of those reptiles must have been female, so it makes sense that female Saurok would exist because of it.

I know that there isnā€™t really any female Saurok NPCā€™s in-game currently and that Saurok have laid eggs in several places, but it doesnā€™t mean there are no female Saurok. It would be very lazy to not include them as an option should they ever become playable.

Not to mention that several NPC races, especially ones that did become playable, have been only male until female members appeared suddenly. Itā€™s not out of the question that we could see female Saurok at some point just appear suddenly.

As for transmogs, I donā€™t see any of the armor slots being an issue. At best, maybe the boots are treated with how Trolls wear them, although their feet could also be covered too. But I donā€™t see it being a Mechagnome situation, where some slots wouldnā€™t be able to utilize transmogs. Honestly, Iā€™d view it as something pretty lazy and disappointing if playable Saurok had armor slots like that.

I donā€™t see Saurok as a specialized race like the Dracthyr, so I canā€™t imagine them having similar limitations. Nor should they have such limitations. Saurok should be treated like a regular core race, complete with males and females, transmog options in all slots, and a variety of class options. :lizard:
