The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! 🐊

I’d expect that they’d have either a mushann or some type of lizard like mount.

Like most ARs it would be unique probably with armor matching Saurok heritage armor.

If Saurok were to get mushan mounts, I would expect them to look fairly different from the current mushan mounts in-game. Newer models, armor to cover them, different face with something more fierce or glowing eyes. It’s definitely possible.

And yes, I would expect either a mushan or some reptilian type of mount in general for Saurok, including dinosaurs as options. Especially if they were to ever reside in Un’Goro Crater. Plenty of options to consider, which is a good thing!

I was wondering if a racial system like the Zandalari could work with Saurok, seeing as many different reptiles were used by the Mogu to create the Saurok.

One of the things I could see Saurok players, especially RPers, being into would be what reptile their Saurok is or their lineage is. Since we know a lot of reptiles were used in their creation, it stands to reason that some Saurok would have some differences compared to others aside from aesthetics.

I don’t know how well the following examples would translate into actual gameplay, so it’s just examples to show off what my line of thinking is. I also assume it’s something you could change at any time for your Saurok character, likely with a cooldown similar to how the Zandalari racial works.

I can imagine a racial could be a bite of some kind, which could be customizable. One option could be a bite that reduces leg movement while another could be a venomous bite. Some lizards IRL are venomous while others aren’t, so this could reflect that.

Another example could be the option to have a stealth similar to the Night Elf stealth racial. The Saurok’s scale colors could blend into the surroundings, but unless you’re a Rogue, movement would break it since it would be somewhat easy to see the colors of the Saurok moving over the ground. This could be based on chameleons in real life.

As I said, it’s a line of thinking that would need fleshing out, so if anyone has any ideas on it, please feel free to share. I do think it would be a unique feature to Saurok and let players really get attached to them as a race if they can pick out and recognized some features found in RL reptiles. As I said, Saurok would have many differences based on the various reptiles used in their creation, so it’d make for something unique compared to Dracthyr.

Came across a video showing off a diorama of a Reaper Lizardfolk tribe, with all figures being made out of metal. Video here:

Showing this off for playable Saurok idea inspiration, as there are a lot of really cool aesthetics, themes, and so on that would look neat on Saurok from this tribe.

As usual, I’ll continue to keep an eye out for things to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration. :lizard:

Got another art piece from DeviantArt to share! This time of a Lizardfolk Cleric that has a scar on their eye from combat. It was created by the user named TwoKinds and uploaded to the website on September 21st, 2017.

I think I recall that scars and such are some customization options for existing races. I could see Saurok possibly having them as options, seeing as they engage in combat like hunts and such. I can imagine some Saurok using such scars as a badge of honor and a good story to tell at taverns.

It also helps to see armored Lizardmen races to show off inspiration for how Saurok could look with armor on. I’ll continue to share art pieces for Saurok idea inspiration in the future! :lizard:

One of the areas in the Throne of Thunder raid is the Saurok creation pit. It’s there that Lei Shen had them created via flesh shaping magic from various reptiles they could find:

Kinda makes me wonder what happened to the Throne of Thunder after we raided it. Seems like something that would be a bit dangerous to leave alone for anyone to walk in and just do whatever they wanted. Especially with Mogu still an issue in general in Pandaria. Kinda scary to think about…

Anyway, as mentioned before, this isn’t the only way to create Saurok, thankfully. They do lay eggs which hatch actual Saurok instead of regular reptiles of what they use to be. No Saurok children NPC’s are in the game, nor are there any female Saurok, but they would be pretty big news if we ever saw either.

I do wonder if there could be an evolution as generations of Saurok are born. It has been many years since Pandaria and Saurok are a fairly new race to Azeroth. Maybe some gain some intelligence that way, aside from gaining artifacts from raiding vaults, or maybe Saurok culture changes in some way overtime. It’d be an interesting thought to explain any friendly Saurok we meet or see more working with others. I suspect we’ll see more tribes in the future we haven’t met yet as a result also as more generations of Saurok hatch.

Luckily, we don’t need a Saurok Creation Pit to create more Saurok. All we need is that character creation screen and we can make all the Saurok we want! :lizard:

What if the Saurok took over part of the raid as their new home?

Kinda like how the Dark Irons are in Shadowforge city.

Just have a portal to a phased section of the raid… that could be neat.

That would be very interesting if they did. Something about the Saurok toppling the Mogu Empire and taking over one of the Mogu’s most important territories, especially where Saurok in general were created, would be really fitting for the Mogu’s downfall.

I don’t know if any Saurok would be friendly or not in such a scenario. If they were of the playable Saurok faction, I could see them taking over the Isle of Thunder in general, giving them a living space away from the Pandaren on Pandaria as they work on negotiations and diplomacy, and fighting the Skumblade Tribe remnants if any are still around, whoever survived from being transported to Orgrimmar in cages in the Siege of Orgrimmar raid. The racial hub could be parts of the Throne of Thunder if they became playable. Plenty to hunt in the area too along with the nearby dinosaur island, I am sure!

If it is an enemy Saurok tribe, I could see the raid and the Isle of Thunder getting repurposed in general. Some rumors are that we could see a return to Pandaria in some fashion in the future, and if that ever became true, it could be something we could use as a raid.

Of course, I’d prefer getting playable Horde Saurok out of it, but it is something to note as possible racial hubs for playable Saurok. I’ll have to keep this in mind as I plan on a revamp of the main megathread post. :lizard:

Wowhead posted an article on a really neat feature involving helping the Tuskarr create a soup that gives buffs depending on how well everyone helped out with it:

It seems like something that could be applied with Saurok. I’ve mentioned before the idea of a microholiday or something like that of a great hunt, where everyone goes out hunting and collecting meat and bones to create a huge feast, likely in honor of a wild god that the Saurok follow.

This obviously would need some fleshing out, but I imagine there is collecting the meat, collecting stuff for spices, a cooking mini-game of sorts, and other stages that people can pick and choose what to help out with. There could also be some fun rewards aside from buffs like in the link above.

It’s cool to see something like the Tuskarr event in-game, and it’d be neat to see more things like it that people can help each other out and just have some fun doing so in-game. As I said, there is plenty could do with such an event with Saurok. After all, a full Saurok is a happy Saurok! :lizard:

Steve Danuser commented on a timeskip between Shadowlands and Dragonflight, stating that it is roughly 5 years since the end of Shadowlands:

Part of me was hoping to see how Azeroth in general fared with the hordes of undead swarming the area, though I’m guessing we won’t know or see much about that unfortunately. A shame, since it would’ve been a good way to get some Saurok tribes to join up with the Pandaren to protect Pandaria. Especially with Mogu Necromancers possibly taking advantage of the situation.

On the subject of time in WoW in general, it has been quite awhile since the mists were lifted on Pandaria. So I still think it’d be possible to see Saurok on other continents, in particular ones that we haven’t been to yet. Seems like enough time to even make a settlement somewhere in these known areas or even in places we’ve been to, like Un’goro Crater that we’ve discussed as a possibility before.

So far, no sign of Saurok on the Dragon Isles, which is understandable since it was kinda hidden and stuff. There are those “Not-Saurok” as I’m calling them that were linked earlier, where they look similar to but aren’t really Saurok. More dragon-like than Lizard-like more or less. I don’t think they’ll play much importance to Saurok, but I’ll check them out when we know more info. And as usual, I’ll continue to keep an eye out for anything Saurok related as I continue to support them as a playable Horde race. :iizard:

I think they’re making a mistake not to advance some stories and use this as an oportunity to add more races through the time skip.

We don’t need to see everything, never have, at least I assume thats Blizzards motto since huge swaths of important story never take place in game, or are entirely removed later on.

It would have been an excellent time to fix up cities, especially the lost cities, as well as update some areas with new AR stories.

That said I do get wanting to show players something awesome like what the retaking of Gilneas would look like. Some things would be great in game after all.

Ignoring the Scourge threat though is a major misstep I think that Blizzard should have spent the first part of Shadowlands actually addressing or the last part of it.

The Scourge threat back on Azeroth during Shadowlands is a big missed opportunity in many ways. Other than one part of the Kyrian campaign, there really isn’t much shown or mentioned about how bad things got. Moreso when we see NPC’s casually arriving in the afterlife in vacation gear somehow. I feel like areas won’t even be damaged at all anywhere, and if there is any mention, it’ll just be a brief “TEH HORRORZ!” mention without much detail or maybe a paragraph or two of a character reminiscing in a novel at best.

I don’t know if doing anything involving the Scourge invasion during Shadowlands would’ve lead to any AR’s becoming playable. You certainly could pick out several races helping with the Scourge threat that could lead to them being playable. However, given that Dracthyr were in the works and also given how Darkfallen were treated and implemented, I feel like not much resources would’ve gone to other new races, unfortunately.

Ah well. There will likely still be opportunities to see new races in the future. Still hoping for the best as usual, but we’ll see where the game takes us in Dragonflight and beyond. :lizard:

So far, there are two types of mounts in Dragonflight that seem like they could be edited to work as a Saurok racial mount, assuming that mushans wouldn’t be their racial mount.

First is the Salamander mount, which you can see the different types here under the “Salamander Water” section:

The other mount type is primal thunder lizards, shown here:

As mentioned, they seem like mounts that could be edited to be fitting for a Saurok racial mount. The Salamander mount seems similar to the saurolisk mount that Trogg NPC’s ride in BfA, which could also work well as a Saurok mount.

Lots of options for Saurok racial mounts, which is a good thing. From mushans, saurolisks, devilsaurs, and so on, there is plenty they can ride and look awesome on! :lizard:

Got another art piece to share! This time of an Argonian (Elder Scrolls) Priest. It was created by the user named Palepaw and uploaded to the website on December 9th, 2015.

In particular, I like the skulls and bones on the staff. It’s something I could see Saurok implementing in their weapons and armor. Especially from hunts and the like. The Argonian also has some neat spikes and even has a type of bracelet on one of their horns. Something I could see as Saurok customization options.

As usual, I’ll continue to keep an eye out on art pieces of different types of Lizardmen to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

Came across another Argonian (Elder Scrolls) related art piece on DeviantArt. This time, it’s of an Argonian in an intense battle with what I think are frost trolls in Skyrim. It was created by TFiddlerArt and uploaded to the website on January 25th, 2017.

“Trial Before the Greybeards” by TFiddlerArt on DeviantArt

This type of combat scene is very fitting with how I’d view Saurok in combat. Fearless, ferocious, and determined. Just jumping into the fray head first into danger and getting thrills from the hunt.

I could see some Saurok hunts going like in the image above. Granted, I imagine most Saurok would be cunning in their hunts as opposed to just jumping towards something like a devilsaur without thinking ahead. They’d want to be the ones to do the chomping as opposed to being chomped, so to speak.

Something like this is a big difference I can see between Saurok and Dracthyr. Sure, Dracthyr could be ferocious, but at present, they’d be more of the type to attack from a distance and use Evoker skills. Saurok, on the other hand, would be more likely to just get up in the faces of their enemies and just go at them with everything they have, including their own body. Again, I assume some of it would be planned ahead of time unless they’re caught up in the heat of battle.

I’ll continue to look for more art pieces of various Lizardmen in other media to share for playable Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

So the prepatch for WotLK Classic has arrived, allowing us to make Death Knights on there. I thought it would be a good time to again mention how future playable races should be able to have Death Knights as an option for those wanting it.

As you may know by now, one of the potential Saurok characters I want to make is a male Saurok Unholy Death Knight (the other being a male Saurok Demonology Warlock unless Necromancers become an option). They’re based on an Iksar Shadow Knight that I use to have in Everquest 1, which was among one of the first characters I made in that game. It’s a very important character to me as a result and is a reason I’m wanting Death Knights as an option for Saurok should they ever become playable.

As far as I can tell, Death Knights still have the ability to add more to their ranks, even with there being no more Lich King or Crown of Domination. Thus, I am hoping that we’ll see Death Knights as an option for future playable races. It’s something I think many people will want, including myself.

I do think the simplest thing to do is to edit the new Death Knight starting area for allied races and Pandaren for future playable races to start in. Obviously, Bolvar will need to be replaced or updated if he still has anything to do with the Knights of the Ebon Blade, along with NPC’s of new races being added to the area, but it shouldn’t be too much trouble to do that.

It seems likely that we would see future playable races become Death Knights, but I thought I would again mention it to keep that discussion going. It’s hard to know what will happen in the future in the game, so keeping at least something going every now and then I think is helpful for giving feedback.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to hope to be able to make my Saurok Death Knight and Warlock (or Necromancer if that becomes an option somehow) characters, possibly some more Saurok characters whenever we see the character cap increased from 50, as champions of the Horde someday! :skull: :lizard:

All of this should be things Blizzard considers for Saurok.

This!

Dracthyr are great but they do not fulfill the fantasy that Saurok could bring to bare. I really hope Blizzard considers the Saurok…

One day I’ll have my hunter.

I believe they do still have this power. Its a little ambiguous but it seems that the Deathlord or any other Death Knight sufficiently powerful enough can raise more of their kind through some effort, plus theres always the group ritual option.

I do wish Blizzard hadn’t tied the new Death Knights into Bolvar just before nixing him…

Somehow, another month has zoomed by. That means it is time for another round of in-game suggestions for playable races we want to see!

So each month, I send in in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with their respective megathreads. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly is reasonable.

If you’re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

Hopefully, our feedback will be considered with an open mind. Especially since we could use some reptiles on that character creation screen! :lizard: :snake: :turtle:
