I remember when Bioware said they wouldnāt make Trandoshans playable cause they canāt speak Basic.
Then Clone Wars came in and went āThey can speak basic.ā.
Hilarious how that turned out.
Iām guessing they wonāt really change their mind on that matter either, right?
Itās a shame that The Old Republicās race selection is a bit on the banal side. Moreso since Star Wars Galaxies had a wide variety of playable races, from Wookies, Trandoshans, Mon Calamari, Itorians, and so on. Last I read, a lot of that was allegedly because of the way the cinematic stuff with your character was utilized. Still, it seems like a bit of a setback to me.
Honestly, the way WoW has it where our characters appear in brief scenes is fine, but something like TOR where it disrupts my headcanon for my character is a bit of a turnoff. It makes me feel like they shouldāve just made another single player Old Republic game to begin with. Not to mention that Iām not particularly interested in the Old Republic setting to begin with.
Ah well. If they change their mind and add more interesting races like Trandoshans, I might consider looking at it. I hear itās a decent game for the most part, but like with FFXIV, if Iām not particular interested in the character creation for one reason or another, it really doesnāt help my interest in playing the game in general.
That isnāt to say I donāt play races like humans in MMOās. I do for some of my characters, but I like a little variety in the character creation and my characters. Games like WoW and Everquest 1 and 2 do really decent jobs at that, and WoW has a lot of potential for adding in a lot of really neat races.

Found some videos on Argonian voices from the Elder Scrolls series. Some of them donāt really fit, IMO.
First is male Argonian lines from Skyrim:
And another one from Skyrim:
Apparently, they sound normal in Japanese also:
These areā¦a bit too human-like. There isnāt really any Lizardman features for the most part I can see.
Compare that to Morrowind Argonians, which are a bit better:
And how they sound in Oblivion:
Not sure why the direction on their voices was changed. It really went in the wrong direction, in my opinion.
I donāt know if that is how they sound in ESO. I would hope not. Lizardmen shouldnāt sound like a random human, and really need something more raspy and other Lizardmen-like features in their voice. It just seems odd otherwise to just have someone talk normally when they would have some sort of difference in how they speak compared to a human.
At the very least, we should expect Saurok to sound more lizard-like. Their voices just need a bit of fine-tuning and they could be really awesome.

How dare you drag me through my childhood.
I kidā¦
A littleā¦
Yeah I like the Morrowind Argonian voices a lot better than the Skyrim ones.
What type do they use in ESO do you know?
personally, iād rather get sethrak on either-faction, horde or alliance (donāt start debating lore reasons with me, i will not respond to it, iām sick of arguing lore when in the lore currently, we still donāt know why zovaal did all the crap he did.), and saurokā¦ iād rather not get, but hey if we gotāem, iād support it. not a big fan of the muscle-lizards, but hey, whatever gets us more options!
No reason we canāt have both.
EDIT:
Also totally feel you on not wanting to argue lore for either faction of Sethrakā¦ >.<
Actually while Iām hereā¦ you been by the Sethrak thread? Forgive me if Iām just forgetting you.
I support both as playable races and donāt see why we would only get one or the other. Especially when they contrast each other very well.
Saurok are a tribal race that comes from lizards that can be a bit aggressive, whereas Sethrak are snakes who seem more passive and cool-headed in general. They both have unique features to offer that they should be able to be playable at the same time and offer completely different experiences with regards to theme, culture, and storylines. Even if both wound up on the same faction.
Iām open to either faction getting Sethrak also. I do lean a bit more towards them as Alliance for various reasons, but Iād be fine with them on Horde. Odd as it sounds, if they were a neutral race, Iād still roll one on Horde. It is what Iād normally do with neutral races in general. Iām much more of a Horde player, though I do play Alliance. I just much much much prefer Horde.
But regardless, I stand with and support Sethrak and their fans. The important thing is that there is a distinct lack of reptiles on that character creation screen. This can easily be fixed by adding some reptilian races who are ready and willing to get spot on there and help fix that problem!
I did a quick search and couldnāt find any videos that specifically talk about the Argonian voices in ESO. Iāll have to see if I can find any examples.
Oddly, even though the male Argonians sound like how I linked in Skyrim, apparently the females are said to sound like chain smokers. Iāll have to see if I can find any videos on female Argonian voices also from the different games.
Iāll have to hunt and see if I can find some more examples of what I imagine if I think of a Saurok talking as well. Lizardmen with fitting voices just makes them that much cooler!
Oh yeah they doā¦ I remember thatā¦
Fun fact the first game I ever got every achievement for was Oblivion and the second one was Skyrimā¦ (Xbox version in both cases).
probably been on there once or twice, maybe not on this alt, but on others. i tend to bounce around on characters when on the forums. but yeah, your right, nothin wrong with wantin both. more options are better than less options!
For any roleplayers out there, I came across a video that talks about how to roleplay as an Argonian in Elder Scrolls Online:
While Argonians are different than Saurok, I figured it could help to inspire some ideas for any roleplayers who would want some ideas for their Saurok characters, if weāre lucky enough to get them as a playable Horde race someday.
Seeing as ESO will be a sister MMO to WoW in the future, once Microsoftās acquisition of Activision-Blizzard is finalized, I figure sharing things about Argonians would be useful in coming up with Saurok idea inspiration. Hopefully, ESO will inspire WoW in some ways, including playable Horde Saurok of course!

As my first forays with lizardfolk were a combination of Morrowind, Warhammer and DnD I feel like a lot of what I use to design my Saurok has come from those places.
I expect his mentality to be on prey drive while still being a fully intelligent and free thinking creature with his own wants and needs aside from his āanimal brainā instincts.
And damn is he a good cook.
Just thought Iād ask, yall want saurok just because of its design?
Saurok designs are cool, but it isnāt the only reason I personally want them playable.
Generally speaking, Lizardmen are my favorite fantasy race. There are many reasons for this, including theme, looks and design, culture, personality, and much more.
For Saurok specifically, they are the only Lizardman race in WoW at presence, but itās a bit more than just pointing at them and going āLook look! A Lizardman race! I want them playable specifically because of that!ā Saurok do have awesome designs that I like, but there is also lore and storyline potential that make me like them specifically.
Saurok were created in a horrific way by the Mogu to be slave soldiers in their empire, only to turn on them and break free, making the Mogu their blood sworn enemy. Saurok share a lot of parallels between themselves and Orcs that would make for some really interesting storylines as a result. Moreso when the idea behind Saurok really fits the Horde very well, and to see them on a journey to become something more and evolved would make for some fantastic questlines and such.
When it comes to WoW, I specifically want Saurok playable because there is a lot of potential for them as a playable race that I feel would add to the game. Storylines, something refreshing to see amongst the playable races, lots of customization options, and so on. Thus why I specifically want Saurok as opposed to some other Lizardman race coming out of nowhere and becoming playable.
I could go on and on about it, but there is a lot to me wanting to see Saurok playable. Lizardmen in general mean a lot to me, and Iād love to see playable Horde Saurok become a thing someday.
Hopefully I didnāt ramble too much. Trying to type up coherent thoughts while tired and listening to hail storms outside isnāt easy, but hopefully I gave some decent reasons why I particularly want playable Horde Saurok.
I went to find a good example of the type of raspy voice Iād expect from Lizardmen, and remembered Dinobot from the Beast Wars cartoon. Found a few clips to show off his voice:
Dinobotās voice Iām thinking of is when āOriginalā is shown:
Another example:
And an amusing scene when you realize the two characters are played by the same voice actor:
Itās a pretty good raspy type of voice. If you add in some Lizardmen features, like the emphasis on S syllables, hissing, tongue flicking, and such, itād be a near perfect example of how Iād imagine male Saurok to sound like. I imagine female Saurok to sound a bit similar, just with a lighter voice.
Iāll see if I can find any other examples of the type of voice I imagine Saurok to sound like!
32 days until the next expansion is announced!
Ah. I love Dinobot.
That would be an amazing choice for Saurok.
Never heard his new voice.
Original is better by far.
If anyone plays D&D 5e, this video was on my Youtube recommendations that gives a basic overview of playable Lizardfolk and some suggestions for character builds:
Figured it would be helpful in some Saurok idea inspiration! Itās something I constantly keep an eye out for to share here.
31 days until the next expansion is announced!
Came across a neat Elder Scrolls lore video of a list of the greatest Argonians in Elder Scrolls history:
Makes me think about Saurok heroes and how theyād be. I imagine several of them fighting off Mogu against incredible odds. That and maybe some great hunters, who took down ferocious beasts. Lots of potential here!
30 days until the next expansion is announced!
If anyone is wanting to increase their cooking skills IRL, I came across a video showing how to make brownie cookies with a lizard scale pattern. If you go to this videoās youtube page, youāll see a list of ingredients in the description section:
I imagine if your cooking skill is high enough, you could create these with various scale colors in some fashion.
29 days until the next expansion is announced!
Just gonna save thisā¦
Oh man! I wanna hear the story of a Saurok who hunted and took out one of the big Cloud Serpentsā¦ maybe it was terrorizing their tribe after they broke free of the mogu.
That would be sweet!
The baker in meā¦ might try this.
If the playable faction of Saurok ended up residing in UnāGoro Crater, I imagine many stories there of Saurok heroes who took down ferocious beasts. Imagine one who took on a devilsaur or two without any weapons and come out victorious. Itād be a neat thing for world-building if you came across Saurok story tellers in an area who occasionally would tell such tales (or upon request). Seems like it would be really fitting of their culture.
