The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Okay I really want to see that now.

Zandalari: Howā€¦ is he doing that?
Saurok: Doing What?
Zandalari: THAT!
Points at a Saurok thats rubbing the belly of a Devilsaur thats rolled onto its back and is just loving it.

Saurok: I donā€™t understandā€¦ do you not give them belly rubs?

I feel like it would be very fitting to have a scene like that between a Zandalari and Saurok NPC at a place where Saurok are mounting and bonding with devilsaurs with ease. Especially if it was something simple like that.

It is a reason I could see Zandalari and Saurok being friendly rivals while also teaching each other different things about handling dinosaurs or reptilian mounts in general. I could imagine some interesting scenes as a result.

Also as I said before, it would be interesting to see Zandalari, once an ally to Mogu, now allied with the Moguā€™s creations that managed to take down their empire. Just seems like an interesting thought. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Yeahā€¦ Yeahā€¦

This whole conversation has me thinking of writing itā€¦

Damn it.

Iā€™m overdue with writing scenarios and such, myself. I also still need to revamp a few sections of the main megathread post. I just need to be able to find the time and energy to sit down and just type out ideas and such.

In the meantime, Iā€™ll gradually show off support with various types of posts. Gotta keep up the support for playable Horde Saurok somehow! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

So I have a bit of a fun story of an encounter with another player that I wanted to share.

I was working on achievements on the Isle of Thunder on this character. Specifically, I was working towards the achievement to get ā€œthe Stormbreakerā€ title. At the time, I was camping rares to kill, and I was in Saurok form, waiting on a beach for a robotic rare to spawn.

As Iā€™m standing there, a Darkspear Troll player came up (I forget the class) and asked what I was doing there. I told them I was camping a rare, and he stayed with me. It was a bit of a wait, so small talk did come up.

At one point, he was wondering why I was a ā€œfish man.ā€ For reference, I was a Saurok with frills on, so I can see why he was calling them that. I told him of the buff you get from a quest done in the area.

I donā€™t quite remember exactly the events that followed, but he did eventually use something to turn into a flying carrot monster. I think it was something you use for the small pets you can do PokĆ©mon battles with that turns you into them. He then ask why would anyone want to be a ā€œfish manā€ when they could be a carrot, even asking another Horde player nearby which was the better illusion form. I donā€™t remember how they responded or if they did, though hopefully they supported the Saurok form. :lizard:

Right after he asked me why I was in ā€œfish manā€ form when I could be a carrot, I was half tempted to point him to the direction of this megathread to explain why. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a fun discussion to be clear and they were joking, but it was an amusing enough of a scene that I felt like mentioning it here. Maybe someday, weā€™ll all be able to be actual ā€œfish menā€ in the future for real. Maybe even full on Horde Lizardmen in the form of Saurok! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Came across an hour long video on Youtube that has the ambience sounds of temple cities of the Lizardmen/Seraphon in Total War: Warhammer 2. There are also some model artwork of various things relating to the Lizardmen army throughout the video.

You can see and listen to it here:

Close to the 26 minute mark of the video, you see an armored Lizardman, complete with a skull shoulderpad. It looks pretty neat for something like a Shaman.

Notice the tail tip is armored as well, which goes with the idea I had of tail customization/equipment. Not an extra equipment slot of course, but something you could transmog either just for looks or for something affecting a Saurok racial, such as a tail whip or very slight extra bonus stat.

You can see more on that idea here:

As for the videoā€™s sounds, it seems like something that could inspire some inspiration of what Saurok settlements could sound like. Sometimes, the ambience sounds of the local area with the occasional Saurok sound is all you need to get immersed in such an area. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

With a new month comes a new round of in-game suggestion feedback for races I want to see playable, along with references to their respective megathreads.

If youā€™re interested in doing the same for each of your wanted races, you can see my handy instructional post on how to do just that here:

Every little bit helps, in my opinion. Iā€™m still trying to think of other ways of supporting races I want playable.

You never know if it could lead to something in the future! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

So the month of March contains my birthday near the end of the month. I havenā€™t thought much about a special post or anything like that, much as Iā€™d love to do something like an in-game event involving Saurok and/or Ogres sometime.

Thinking I may relax on my b-day. Maybe something like this:

Iā€™m sure yā€™all will know what part of my b-day wish will be! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

I keep meaning to sit down and respond here but I keep getting distractedā€¦

Using the Seraphon as inspiration would, I think, be a great idea for Blizzard.

Itā€™s not like theyā€™ve never used games workshop for concepts before :stuck_out_tongue:

Be interesting.

I kinda assumed theyā€™d have tail adornments in customization but attaching it to a racial? Thatā€™s a neat idea.

Happy almost birthday! Mine is also at the end of this month.

If you do decide to do anything let me know Iā€™ll do my best to help out!

Wowpedia makes a mention on the Saurok page that ā€œthe saurok bear striking similarities in name and overall design to the Saurus, a Warhammer race of Lizardmen.ā€ Seems like they took inspiration from them already.

I do think a lot of themes of Lizardmen/Seraphon would work really well with Saurok. However, Saurok would also have their own unique themes as well. Especially if things like bone armor become a thing. Itā€™d be neat to see some similarities, but with a Saurok spin on them! :lizard:

In-game events are things I want to do, but until I get employed and have a regular schedule, I canā€™t promise anything. Hopefully, Iā€™ll be able to look into doing some of them at some point when I can reliably schedule and do the work needed to organize them.

Once I can be more reliable, then Iā€™ll definitely consider them. Maybe something for National Lizard Day (August 14th) or Reptile Awareness Day (Oct. 21st) would be good days to do an in-game event.

Weā€™ll see how things go. Maybe weā€™ll get lucky in the meantime and see playable Horde Saurok become a reality! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Gonna post this in a few megathreads gradually.

Looks like we have an announcement of an announcement for the next expansion. Itā€™ll be announced on April 19th:

While Iā€™ll keep my fingers crossed for playable Horde Saurok as part of this expansion, Iā€™ll at the very least hope weā€™ll be back in the living world (of Warcraft!) and not trekking across the cosmic parts. Honestly, Shadowlands is likely to be my least favorite expansion, so itā€™ll be refreshing to finally see what is next.

Iā€™ll keep an open mind, but Iā€™ll always keep hope to see some playable race requests come true! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

So the ending cinematic for the current patch is floating on the internet. I wonā€™t go into specific details over it, though it seems to allude to an unspecified world-ending threat in the future. I mean, with new expansions, it is a given there will be world-ending threats of some kind, but maybe weā€™ll learn more details about it when the next expansion is announced next month.

Iā€™ve mentioned before the idea of the races of Azeroth, PC and NPC, banding together to take on an extremely powerful threat. It isnā€™t an original idea, as other video games have done similar storylines, but itā€™s an intriguing thought that I think would be fun and make some good use out of the allied race system for more new playable races as the Horde and Alliance seek allies to band together to save the world (of Warcraft!).

I imagine in such a scenario, some races would happily join the cause, some would need buttering up, and others might either revel in the chaos or side with the world-ending threat. I donā€™t know if the next expansion would go this route, but itā€™s something I could see injecting a lot of interest back in the game with some slight old-world revamps. Not to mention new playable races that would gradually unlock in a pre-patch, where they all band together when the expansion actually starts.

I feel like Saurok would work very well in such a scenario. Not just because I want them, of course. They have a lot of story potential, as well as being a race you might need to butter up at first. Making friendly contact with a tribe somewhere and helping them with their problem (likely Mogu related) to get them to join would be fairly interesting. Moreso to see them eventually open their hearts and join in saving the world (of Warcraft!). A number of races would do well with such a scenario, but with Saurok being the first lizardman race, I feel like itā€™d be really memorable if done right.

Obviously, this idea needs fleshing out, and even then, it is a bit of wishful thinking. We donā€™t know what direction the next expansion will take, but as I mentioned before, there is a bit of hope to see some new playable races people have been requesting for awhile.

And besides, playable Horde Saurok would make for a really great late b-day announcement! Even if my b-day is later this month and not in April. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Had another Youtube recommendations video, which is the music of a Lizardfolk Village from Neverwinter Nights:

Thought I would share it for potential Saurok location music in general. :lizard:

Came across a video that teaches people without any voice acting experience how to voice Lizardfolk characters for their tabletop RPG games, along with some various Lizardmen artwork throughout the video:

Getting the right voice is important to Saurok in general. As I mentioned before, I consider their voice to be more of a raspy, hissing sound at times. I would imagine ā€œsssā€ sounds on S syllables, though maybe not all S syllables. I feel like such a voice would be best for them, since given how fierce they are in battle, it would help make them sound really fierce with battle hisses and such.

You can have some variety with it, so not all Saurok would sound the same. Itā€™s something that would also be really memorable. Especially if you get the playable Horde Saurok faction leaderā€™s voice right. It just really adds to their personality and adds to many reasons why I love Lizardmen races in general. :lizard:

Just gonna save this to my dnd resources playlistā€¦

I imagine theyā€™d have a similar voice to the Sethrak who also tend to focus on a more raspy sssss sounding voice.

Some of the Saurok NPCā€™s I can think of that do have voices in-game, in my own personal opinion, donā€™t really quite fit. If you go to the following Wowhead pages and go to sounds tab under the ā€œRelatedā€ section, you can hear how they sound. I picked a couple of NPCā€™s I coudl think of off the top of my head:

Their voices sound like something you might hear from a sludge-like monster than a Lizardman for the most part. I could see it kinda fitting if they were possibly crocolisk based or more burly, but it sounds a bit too wet and deep for my tastes.

It isnā€™t a terrible voice, to be clear. Itā€™s just not quite fitting of the body types, in my opinion. I do think with all the different types of lizards used by the Mogu to create Saurok, they would have a wide range of voices. If the voice were less wet, it would be fine if you had something like Dire Saurok NPCā€™s, who were the bigger and more muscular type.

I do think some Saurok would have the typical raspy type of voice and others could have a deeper type. Iā€™ll have to look for some examples so I can help paint a better picture of how I think Saurok in general should sound.

I agree with that.

Iā€™d rather something closer to the Seraphon race from Warhammer you had a video about earlier.

Now that you mention it, I did a search for Seraphon voices and found this video from Total War: Warhammer with different unit voicelines in their own language:

I think most of these are of the burly type of Seraphon, as one of the comments on the video asks for voicelines for the Skink units. It does sound similar to how Saurok were voiced in WoW, only more dry.

Itā€™s something I can see some Saurok NPCā€™s sounding like, though I do think there should be some with the typically raspy voice. I think that type of voice would fit the player character Saurok better. It also would fit more with the hissing youā€™d likely hear from being hit or attack sounds, in my opinion.

As I said before, there were many types of reptiles used to create the Saurok, so I imagine there would be some variety in things like voices, scale colors and patterns, and body customization options. Itā€™s just something that I feel would really add a lot to the game if Saurok had that type of variety. :lizard:

I found this video.

At 1:58ish a skink speaks it seems.

Not quite what I was hoping for. Oddly like the Mantid actually.

Itā€™s a bit better than the voices of the Saurok I linked, though I think it should be a bit more raspy. The issue with that voice is that it sounds too human-like most of the time, though I do like the hissing and the emphasis on the S syllables. Also not sure if that is how all Skinks sound or if this is just this particular Skink.

Around the 1:14 and 1:58 marks of this video has a raspy-like sound that is close to how I imagine the level of rasp:

Needs a bit more Lizardman flair and features, of course. Iā€™ll have to continue to hunt for more clip examples to see if I can better show off how I imagine Saurok in general to sound.

Also, 36 days until the next expansion is announced! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:
