The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Iā€™ve talked about the idea of evil Mogu becoming a huge antagonist and would likely fit well in the World Soul Saga that is beginning. I thought I would go a bit over that.

Simply put, the Mogu want to take over the world (of Warcraft!) Their being a titan-forged race to shape and protect the land of course went their heads and decided the best way to do that is a hostile takeover. Seeing as titan related stuff seems to be an important part of the World Soul Saga, I can see them having a bit of a role within it.

Of course, we donā€™t know what the roles of the titans orā€¦well, titan, since one expansion is called ā€œThe Last Titan,ā€ will be. But regardless if they would have noble or evil purposes, I still see evil Mogu clans still interested in taking over the world (of Warcraft!).

To illustrate this, you can find an ā€œEdict of the Thunder Kingā€ which shares words of Lei Shen:

"What has become of my mogu? Look at yourselves. You are little better than the savages we once used to build our cities.

To be mogu is to rule. It is why we were created. Our words are laced with power! Those who do not bend to our will must be broken by our strength.

There is no strength without unity. There is no unity without obedience. To obey your Emperor and to demand obedience of your subjects is the natural order.

When you fight amongst yourselves you fight against your very nature. There is an order to this world, a strength that flows from your emperor down to the very stones of the earth. Do not forget this.

Together our voices shall echo across the land like the clap of thunder before a storm. You are that storm!

Rise mogu! And reclaim your birthright as rightful rulers of this land!"

So as you can see, the Mogu arenā€™t really interested in petting puppies and kittens while baking cookies for the local orphanage.

Itā€™s a reason I float the idea of an opportunistic Mogu who wants to create a new Mogu empire, taking over his clan and working on getting titan related artifacts in order to gain the power to do. In a way, his perception of it being his birth right of sorts.

And thus why I feel like evil Mogu are pretty integral to a playable Saurok factionā€™s storyline. A new Mogu empire would still consider Saurok turning on them to be a huge affront that needs to be purged and taught a lesson of sorts, and with them coming into power, could lead into why a playable Saurok tribe would go on an exodus to get away from them, which would be a parallel to Orcs in a sense.

And of course, I can see this new Mogu emperorā€™s fate being similar to a previous emperorā€™s fate: being tossed down from a high place into a huge group of Saurok who get him caught up in the moment of tooth! You can read about that emperor in this scroll you can read in-game:

"Even by mogu standards, the reign of Emperor Dojan II was short and brutish. His maniacal drive to finish his fatherā€™s work and complete the great purge against the rebellious saurok legions drove him to leave his court in disarray while he set out on a doomed military campaign.

From his perch high on the cliffs overlooking the Krasarang Wilds he oversaw the slow clear-cutting of the jungle, the establishment of Dojanni Dungeons, and the gradual genocide of the saurok race.

What he didnā€™t expect was for the remains of the saurok fifth and seventh legions to scale the enormity of the cliffs in the dead of night, ambushing his imperial pavilion from the Valley of Four Winds and forcing him over the edge. His body was never found, and the resulting disarray in the capitol left the empire in chaos for over two years while the saurok melted back into the wilds and disappearedā€¦"

I can almost see that being the ending raid cinematic in a way.

Anyway, itā€™s why Iā€™ve been harping on evil Mogu being capable of being a huge antagonist and leading to why Saurok would be open to getting help from others and decided that being part of something like the Horde would be pretty awesome when it comes to the survival of their race. And when it comes to the Horde, it fits very well as a storyline for them.

Weā€™ll see what actually happens in the World Soul Saga as we continue onward, but Iā€™ll still hope for the best for Saurok during and after it! :lizard:

Next monthā€™s Trading Post items have been revealed:

And the monthly reward for doing enough tasks is this:

Nothing Saurok related this month, which I honestly donā€™t expect a whole lot at all. Still, you never know. Maybe we could see something Saurok related some monthā€¦in which case, I have to hope that I have enough tenders for said items. Not really sure what all to expect if there was something Saurok related to be completely honestā€¦

Anyway, Iā€™ll continue to report on each monthā€™s Trading Post rewards! :lizard:

Really like those two mountsā€¦

Really curious if they might add Saruok in a revamp of the world one day. Saw a twitter post (which Iā€™ve lost now) telling of a revamp to Unā€™goro that reveals a whole underground zone where the dinos are even more rampant and the Saurok appear.

Was this just speculation or based on anything official?

It sounds like something youā€™d see in Hearthstone, since Saurok are prevalent in that area in that game. Otherwise, Iā€™d assume it would be remnants of the Skumblade Tribe unless another Saurok tribe traveled to Kalimdor and settled there. Iā€™m guessing there could be dinomancers among either scenario since we see that one Skumblade dinomancer for that micoholiday, which would explain the underground dinosaurs.

If we ever see an old world (of Warcraft!) revamp, Iā€™m guessing it is a good chance we could see Saurok in Unā€™goro Crater. Hopefully theyā€™ll be friendly to the Horde and be interested in joining if that were the case! :lizard:

Purely speculation.

Just a neat idea.

I wouldnā€™t be surprised if hearthstones rendition of Unā€™goro wasnā€™t part of it.

I feel like if they go that route they should have another tribe of Saurok be there, possibly more than one, and have them either come together or have one remain ā€œhostileā€.

Would love to see more Dinomancers!

Iā€™ve talked about playable Saurok providing a bit of irony when it comes to the Mogu in general many times and I thought Iā€™d actually do a bit of a post expanding the reasoning behind it.

The Mogu were created to shape and protect the land, which the majority of them decided to go into business for themselves and take over the world (of Warcraft!) for their vision of a powerful empire. They then create the Saurok by painfully changing the local reptiles into slave soldiers to spread their will across the land.

Of course, the Saurok decided they had enough, went to form the ā€œWe Hate Tyrannical Empires!ā€ club, and fought against their evil overlords while finding some mixed success on their own, much like your typical retail worker.

The idea that the Saurok helped caused the downfall of an evil empire that had created them is a bit ironic by itself, but the bigger picture is if they ever became playable. The idea that the Mogu, who were suppose to protect the world (of Warcraft!) and decided to go ā€œNOPE!ā€ and take it for themselves, only to have their creation, who was suppose to help them in that endeavor, not only bring them down, but then proceeded to help to protect the world (of Warcraft!) after the fact is a really fun thought. In a way, it somewhat fulfilled the role that Mogu were originally suppose to have, albeit indirectly.

So as you can see, there is a very interesting and unique irony when it comes to playable Saurok. And itā€™s something I like to point out from time to time, since the downfall of the evil Mogu empire plays a significant role in Saurok lore. It is something I hope would get mentioned and shown off as weā€™d see Saurok heroes and champions with playable Saurok.

Just an interesting thought I wanted to share. :lizard:

I came across a neat race of lizardmen in the SaGa series called the Salamanders that you can recruit in some of the games in the series. Theyā€™re fire lizards with most of them having frills that look pretty awesome. I thought I would link a few images here for the usual Saurok idea inspiration.

They came from a wiki, so Iā€™ll link to the wiki page if you want to see more or if they appear weird below:

Apparently in one of the games, you have a choice to save them, where they become recruitable afterwards. If only weā€™ll get to do something like that for Saurok joining the Horde someday! :lizard:

If we had gotten playable Horde Saurok in BfA, this is a bit of a taste of what it could have looked like. A bit of a shame since we did have some opportunities for Saurok joining to the Horde to be written inā€¦

However! There is always a chance in future expansions that we could see playable Horde Saurok, and you can help the chances of this happening!

With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.

If youā€™re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

Iā€™ll always keep hope for playable Horde Saurok someday! :lizard:

This would have been such a good time for so many more allied races.

There is a reason I call BfA the poster child of missed opportunities, since there were a lot of chances of races becoming Allied Races, only to be quickly forgotten about.

Even some like Sanā€™layn got dangled like a carrot on a stick in front of usā€¦only for Blizzard to just eat said carrot and then try to give us some gnarly looking parsnips instead with Darkfallen as a customization race, albeit without any Sanā€™layn officially part of it. Quite the limbo theyā€™re in, unfortunately.

I get that budget is a thing and seeing a lot more playable races than what we got in BfA in one expansion is quite the work and unrealistic, but it is disappointing to see a lot of races like the Kelfin just abandoned and storylines just quickly tossed aside.

It does make me wonder what races were considered, aside from Blizzardā€™s general comment of all races with two legs being a consideration. I also wonder what we couldā€™ve gotten if BfA wasnā€™t rushed right at the end. I honestly canā€™t make any guesses here, though Iā€™m curious if some ideas may have gotten shelved for future use.

If all races with two legs were considered, Iā€™m curious how Saurok were consideredā€¦and also worried about them possibly being tossed aside with a nonchalant ā€œnah.ā€ Then again, maybe Horde Saurok and Alliance Rajani Mogu couldā€™ve been considered if BfA wasnā€™t rushed. I talked about the pairing before, but it wouldā€™ve gone nicely with the storyline at the time with getting them to work together to take on a greater threat that wouldā€™ve been a nice way to mirror the Horde/Alliance kerfuffle to lead more into the armistice.

Ah well. Despite my frustrations, BfA is still very nostalgic since the Allied Race system got me to come here and meet a lot of cool people as I participate in megathreads. And as Iā€™ve said before, Saurok popularity seems to be growing steadily, so maybe there is a chance in the future. Especially if Blizzard might be noticing and warming up to them also.

Plus I still continue to dream of having a Saurok dance party in Ogrimmar someday:

Guess weā€™ll see what happens when it happens, but until then, I continue to march in support of playable Horde Saurok. :lizard:

MoP Remix ends in 10 days, so if youā€™re wanting to finish up any tasks in it or get any alts leveled so theyā€™re ready for TWW, youā€™ll want to jump on that as soon as you can.

For the most part, I did enjoy MoP Remix, though I have some mixed feelings about it. I may post more about that when I can actually take my feelings and translate them to text on the screen.

I am very happy and grateful we got more character slots out of it, which I can always use, and that MoP has been getting a lot of love lately. And by proxy, it gets Saurok back into the some of the limelight, which is always a good thing. Seeing as MoP Classic is very likely to become a thing, Iā€™m curious if weā€™ll see more MoP stuff and love in general in the near future.

Speaking of which, Iā€™ve seen some threads of people posting their most wanted playable races, and I continue to see Saurok get listed on several lists of forumers here, which makes me very happy to see. Iā€™m sure it makes Saurok very happy to see that as well, perhaps similar to this:

With luck, maybe Saurok will be getting some love and interest by Blizzard as well. Especially for playable Horde race consideration of course.

Anyway, Iā€™ll post my general thoughts on MoP Remix in a future post. After all, I am one of the lead sources of all things Saurok, so itā€™s kinda something I feel like I should do. Hope everyone gets everything they wanted done in MoP Remix! :lizard:

Blizzard has officially posted what will happen with your MoP Remix characters and their inventory here:

While Iā€™ve enjoyed the event, I am looking forward to getting my MoP Remix characters situated for play in the future.

Speaking of MoP Remix, Iā€™ve managed to buy every reward available aside from the Garrosh heirlooms and the tusks since I primarily wanted to solo play. A lot of great mounts were available for if Saurok ever become playable, and Iā€™m very happy with the green pterrodax mount for this character, which I now use as my main flying mount.

And while Iā€™ve gotten some weapon transmogs, I havenā€™t gotten them all. It wouldā€™ve been nice to be able to buy them in arsenals with bronze, but Iā€™m just happy I was able to get the Saurok maces, which thankfully were drops I could do solo.

I still have some mixed feelings on MoP Remix as a whole, though I did enjoy it a lot. Iā€™ll post more on that in a future post when I can put it to words.

On another note, I noticed another lizard was trapped in my mailbox again. While it looked to be a common garden skink, it was smaller than the last one and it skittered around faster than the one before it. I managed to safely catch it in a small net and release it to freedom and to help control the bug population. Of course, I asked it to spread the word of the playable Horde Saurok support and our megathread in return. Itā€™s only fair.

As I said before, itā€™s funny to see a lizard of all things in my mailbox. Maybe with luck, Iā€™ll open my mailbox and see some Saurok I can put on my character creation screen someday! :lizard:

Oh and weā€™re 2 weeks away from TWW releasing for everyone and 10 days for those with early access! Iā€™ll be detailing some plans Iā€™ll have in mind soon.

I do too.

Iā€™ve actually thought of characters to use for them. For example, if we get a WoD remix Iā€™ll make a Magā€™har, but if we get a Legion remix Iā€™m thinking a Tauren.

I actually didnā€™t know about this item:

Apparently drops off this mob:

Iā€™ll have to add that to my ā€œto-farmā€ list. Luckily, this isnā€™t MoP Remix exclusive, so I can do it at my leisure.

I also saw a mail armor set, again not MoP Remix exclusive, that consists of Saurok related armor pieces which has the same look as other armor pieces of different names:

Not sure what makes it Saurok related, but as I said, each piece has multiple different items that give the looks, including Saurok named pieces.

That and having weapon arsenals of the weapon drops you could buy with bronze wouldā€™ve been nice.

If they do, I hope they give us more character slots each time since I really donā€™t want to delete anyone to be able to do events like this.

Chances are Iā€™ll always make a Beast Master Hunter to go through them and be able to solo. What other alts Iā€™d make would depend on what character slots weā€™d get with it.

Yeah donā€™t really get why they locked off weapons like that.

Gods I hope so. I canā€™t keep remaking toons.

Fascinating design for a ritual daggerā€¦ wonder how they use it exactlyā€¦

I actually havenā€™t thought of a direct class for each potential remix, just race. The only one I decided on was a Tauren Paladin for a Legion Remix. Though Iā€™m thinking of just making him now, the event is fast leveling from what I hear, and doing a Highmountain instead.

Itā€™s pretty fast, though youā€™ll want to find events others are also doing and helping them as it can be hard to solo until you get geared up. Iā€™ve been able to level a L60 character to L70 in a little under an hour. Took me a few days to get all my alts to 70, which was well worth it. Getting the event currency on each character also helped in getting gear and bags for my warband bank.

Very much recommend it if you want to level alts fast.

Given the mob it drops from, I assume it is a sacrificial dagger of sorts.

Or maybe Saurok ingenuity created a dagger that also works as a fork and knife. :plate_with_cutlery::lizard:
