The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Thanks for confirming and the advice on how to go about it.

Weā€™re now 1 week away until TWW releases for those with early access! Wowhead has an article with a couple of things to note:

From the article, Blizzard has shared a launch timetable for both early access and regular expansion owners for when TWW goes live:

And we also have a small roadmap of the expansionā€™s launch here:

Iā€™m guessing that Earthen will be available to unlock when TWW is available. I havenā€™t seen anything to indicate otherwise, but that is just me assuming, so I donā€™t know 100%.

Speaking of, if youā€™re interested in making an Earthen, here is a reminder of their current unlock criteria and other general info about them:

And this video shows all the customization options for male and female Earthen that was taken a few months ago during the alpha, so please bear in mind that Earthen canā€™t be DKā€™s as originally planned:

I mentioned having some plans for TWW before, which isnā€™t a whole lot, but I thought I would go over them.

First of all, when Earthen are officially available, Iā€™ll be taking screenshots of the Horde and Alliance embassy to see where their banner is placed. There likely will be plenty more room for other banners, but it is worth a look.

Second, I do plan on making an Earthenā€¦even if Iā€™m far from thrilled with them, mostly because I try to have at least one character of every playable race since there are often times questlines and such unique to those races. Iā€™ll also be looking at their Allied Race starting questline, which is a bit more elaborate than other Allied Races, and seeing if there is anything else of note.

Third, Iā€™ll just keep a general eye out for anything Saurok related in TWW to report back on. I honestly donā€™t expect anything, but given how close to Pandaria the continent weā€™re on in TWW is, there could always be a possibility, albeit a small one.

Anyway, I hope the expansion launch goes smoothly for everyone and yā€™all have fun ASAP!

I feel like it has been awhile since we last shared what type of Saurok characters we want to make if they were to ever become playable. So I figured, why not do another post about it!

If weā€™re ever lucky enough to get playable Horde Saurok, I have the following characters in mind to make:

-Male Saurok Demonology Warlock

-Male Saurok Unholy Death Knight

-Male Saurok Survival Hunter

The first two characters would be recreations of my Iksar Necromancer and Shadow Knight characters from Everquest 1. They were among some of my first created characters and it would mean a lot for me to be able to make them in-game as Saurok. Definitely one of the big reasons I made this megathread!

This of course assumes Necromancers arenā€™t playable by them in some fashion, which Iā€™d go for that over Warlock. It also assumes that Death Knights would be a class option, which I would think at some point, it would be. And hopefully so, since that particular class choice is an important one for me along with the Warlock character.

As for the Survival Hunter, itā€™s something Iā€™m still thinking on, but I had a bit of a special idea involving a third Saurok character. If we ever get playable Horde Saurok, Iā€™ll share that fun idea then.

Iā€™m sure with more character slots in the future, Iā€™d make several more Saurok characters of different classes, but those are the ones Iā€™m thinking of making and are the most important to me.

So that said, what Saurok characters would yā€™all make if they ever become playable? :lizard:

I honestly no idea on a class for a potential Saurok character. Perhaps a warrior.

Saurok hunter, his entire story being about tasting every meal from all sorts of different cultures and peoples across Azeroth. Hes especially favorable to egg dishes.

Hes friends with my Pandaren Monk who is also interested in tasting the food of Azeroth and will likely both have a tie or two to my Ogre Monk who also has an interest in that regard.

On the subject of Saurok Warriors, I came across two neat art pieces of Lizardmen Warriors.

This one is from X, formerly Twitter. It was uploaded by the user named Plutus and uploaded on Feb 25th, 2019.

And this one is from a website called ArtStation, created by Veli Nystrƶm, which doesnā€™t have an upload date from what I can tell:

Definitely some great art pieces that really help to imagine what Saurok Warriors could look like! :axe::lizard:

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Xbox has detailed their livestream plans for Gamescom:

https://x.com/Xbox/status/1824068608567251340

August 22nd is when the livestream will have a WoW: TWW specific segment, which is also the day that early access launches for the expansion.

Iā€™m going to guess that being part of this big livestream presentation with a lot of other games being showcased, itā€™ll just be a release trailer trying to hype up the next expansion and to get those without early access to preorder the expansion still. Itā€™s hard for me to imagine there being much else, though to be fair, the expansion is launching that day for early access, so I canā€™t really imagine what all could get announced alongside it.

If there is anything else of particular importance announced that day, Iā€™ll be sure to post about it.

I was thinking about dedicated tradeskill characters and decided that if Saurok ever became playable, Iā€™d have my Saurok Warlock become my Tailoring character.

Typically when making a dedicated tradeskill character, I try to do it on characters I really like playing and having it fit their class for the most part. I know that if Saurok ever became playable, Iā€™d really want to play my Saurok characters regularly, so having at least my Saurok Warlock character as my tailoring character sounds like it would make a lot of sense.

At present, I do have a character dedicated to each of the main tradeskills which Iā€™m considering replacing a couple if Saurok and Ogres ever became playable. Iā€™m not really sure if there is a huge practical use out of having multiple tradeskill characters, outside of maybe two engineers to make Gnome and Goblin items, so I donā€™t know if Iā€™d keep them with those tradeskills or not if I did end up replacing them as dedicated tradeskill characters.

If anyone is interested in making any Saurok characters, would you have them do any of the main tradeskills? Or just give them gathering professions? :lizard:

Mine would probably be a leatherworker and skinner.

(also cooking)

So last night I started playing this custom Troll Campaign on War3 and one of the enemy creep units are Saurok. I only mention it because one of the Saurok units is mounted on a frog.

I have to say when I think of possible Saurok mounts, a frog never crossed my mind. I always figured they would get the mushan or basilisk as their mount. So now I canā€™t help but wonder if Blizzard would go the obvious or do something unexpected with the mount choice.

I know Warcraft 3 Reforged had a mod called ā€œSurvival Chaosā€ with a playable Saurok faction, which I think is mostly meant for competitive PvP. Wondering if that custom Troll campaign might be related to it. There are several videos of it on YouTube, though I donā€™t know if it is still being supported nowadays.

As for frog mounts, it is a neat idea. Saurok racial mounts are going to depend on where the playable faction of them resides (Pandaria, Unā€™goro Crater, or elsewhere), but I could see frog mounts being a possibility and fitting a Pandaria theme. Maybe the Saurok saw how the Gulp Frogs were being treated in MoP Remix and rescued them. Would also help to use them to travel to other continents by sea! :frog:

I feel like Saurok having a bonus to cooking as a racial would make a lot of sense. As a race that was created and is younger compared to other races, I could see them really getting into trying out new flavors and getting into cooking as a result. Maybe with bonuses when they cook meat dishes, of course. :fork_and_knife::lizard:

Awhile ago, WoWhead made an article on Dracthyr getting various class animations for classes other than Evoker, which interestingly includes Death Knight:

I was thinking about Death Knights and future playable races lately, and Iā€™m beginning to think that we could see another new DK area after a bunch of new playable races come out in the future, similar to the Pandaren and Allied Races (before Shadowlands) DK area. This is just a guess, of course.

I donā€™t think Death Knights are off the table for future playable races, but obviously story stuff needs to be explained for how new Death Knights will come into being. And with several NPC races being candidates for the next few expansions, I was thinking that at some point, there could be a new DK area with these new playable races added in the area Oor maybe alongside all the current playable races.

Seeing Dracthyr Death Knight animations and at least Earthen initially being considered having the Death Knight class (before being quietly removed) gives me some hope for Death Knights of future playable races, since as you might know, one of the Saurok characters I want to make is an Unholy Death Knight. So itā€™s a pretty important subject.

I donā€™t know if new Death Knight races would just gradually be added to the second Death Knight starting area or if there would be a huge batch for a third area, whether it takes over the second area or not, and having new races added gradually when they become playable. Either way, itā€™s something to keep an eye out on.

Also, TWW launches tomorrow for early access users! And the WoW TWW portion of the Xbox event at Gamescom is also tomorrow! Though to be honest, Iā€™m not expecting much other than a launch trailer, but if anything of interest does get announced, Iā€™ll post about it here. And of course Iā€™ll keep an eye out for anything Saurok related in TWW to help report back on too! :mag::lizard:

I think a new third area is more likely. An easy explanation could be the Knights of the Ebon Blade raising a new generation and one of the first quests outright stating ā€œPer our agreement,ā€ showing that the new playable DKs are there by choice, over being forcefully raised like the prior generations.

The question here is whether the third area would replace the second area or not.

Honestly, I can see it replacing the second area, since itā€™d likely be the same place but with edited NPCā€™s and maybe a much less royal Bolvar giving his blessings. Just throw in some NPCā€™s of Dracthyr, Earthen, and future playable races as theyā€™d made playable, and it would serve its purpose very easily.

If anything, itā€™d be great if Death Knights of all races, current and future, could start there. It would be pretty good for those who have run the original Death Knight starting scenario and Exileā€™s Reach many times and just want to jump into the game with their friends and such.

Still gives me hope that Iā€™ll get to make my Saurok Unholy Death Knight as one of my Saurok characters someday! :skull: :lizard:

Some interesting news about MoP Remix was posted on Wowhead. We may be seeing it come back regularly:

Honestly, Iā€™m pretty happy to see it coming back occasionally. It allows those who werenā€™t able to get everything they wanted another chance, so maybe I could actually get past my social anxiety and get the Garrosh items next time. I also hope they consider adding weapon arsenals, since a lot of them are annoying to get thanks to RNG, and Iā€™d need some other things to buy with bronze.

I am curious if they may add in some newer rewards for those of us who got most of everything. Maybe some new Saurok related items, perhaps? Iā€™d definitely play it again to collect that stuff. And of course, MoP being in the limelight again with Saurok in general part of that is always a good thing!

Though I do wonder if we could get more character slots again when MoP Remix returns or if we ever see another expansion get the remix treatment. Iā€™m back to being dangerously close to the cap once more, and speaking only for myself, Iā€™d be fine with purchasing more character slots if that was ever an option.

I assume the storyline for MoP Remix would still be the same with the dragons wanting to take another look at it again with little if any changes. Still, maybe weā€™ll be lucky someday and get to go through it as Horde Saurok characters. Iā€™d certainly would love to take one through it to learn a bit of Saurok history to help their tribe out.

Iā€™ll be keeping an eye out for any announcements of MoP Remixā€™s return!

Also, today is the launch day of TWW for early access users! Assuming servers donā€™t explode and melt, Iā€™ll be trying it out some. Iā€™ll of course be keeping an eye out for anything Saurok related to report back, even if the chances are fairly low. :lizard:

Hanging out with other players as I wait for TWW early access to launch. Iā€™m sure my Ogre buddy there is going to have quite the adventure. Heā€™ll help me keep an eye out for anything Saurok related to help report back here! :japanese_ogre:

I donā€™t see why not. It wasnā€™t a bad idea at all, but having it be entirely PvP focused made it feel much more of a chore for those of us that much prefer PvE stuff. Maybe we could see a PvE mode added if it does return, which could be interesting if done right.

And seeing as how Saurok pirates are a thing, hopefully weā€™d be able to be them in such a mode and also in Retail WoW someday! :pirate_flag::lizard:

So far in TWW, Iā€™ve gotten to the third area. I havenā€™t really seen anything Saurok related at all, which was to be expected.

Of course, I still need to look around the first area more, which would be the more likely place if anything Saurok was there, but Iā€™m feel that nothing is really there. Of course, there have been various races that traveled to the continent before we got there, so there could be a possibility that Saurok at one point landed there, given how close it is to Pandaria.

As for the Earthen, it appears that they are not unlockable during early access. Whenever they are available, Iā€™ll be taking a look at both the Orgrimmar and Stormwind embassies to see banner placement and what room there is. Itā€™s kinda funny as on one hand, Iā€™m excited to unlock and make a new character, but on the other hand, Iā€™m really underwhelmed with Earthen still. Itā€™s a very weird feeling in general.

Something interesting I did want to note from TWW so far is that you do eventually run into some friendly Kobolds who take up residence with some of the Earthen. Before, Kobolds were a bit of a one-note ā€œNO TAKE CANDLEā€ mook race, but here, we see them fleshed out a bit and even are friendly and join up with us.

If anything, it gets me to think that just about any race can get that kind of treatment. One of the biggest examples I usually use is the Kelfin. Once, Gilgoblins were a mook race with the personality as shallow as a rain drop on concrete, only to get fleshed out to be something pretty awesome and still a potential Allied Race candidate.

So weā€™ve seen Gilgoblins and Kobolds get fleshed out and even seen Mogu get a face turn with the Rajani. Just about anything is possible at this point when Blizzard wants something, and I see Saurok among those with a chance of becoming more than just quest jobbers who go RAWR!

Letā€™s just hope Saurok get that chance someday! :lizard:

Just give us more races like DnD does. Why High Elves, Jinyu, Saberon, Tuskarr, Hozen, Saurok, Sethrak, Arrakoa, etc etc, arenā€™t playable is beyond me and is just laziness from a multi-billion dollar company with some of the best talent in the world. Modders have made dozens of races playable in addition to creating dozens of unique classes WITH 3 specs each.

I perfectly understand that. Unlocking something new is fun, but even with seeing how the Earthen are different from Dwarves, being able to separate it from the idea of Horde Dwarves due to their culture, and being moved by elements of the story (ex: the side quest with Korgran), they still just lack the spark of excitement that most races give me when they become playable.

For example until the Earthen, every playable Horde race had given that spark. Just the stories and characters established for each of them (from the RTS games and the questing in Highmountain, Suramar, all of Zandalar, and outright saving the AU Magā€™har) just made me excited when each was revealed as a playable race. With the allied races, since we unlocked them it really felt like I was bringing them into the Horde, which made it more personal, and my fond memories of Chen Stormstout got me hyped for Pandaren.

Now as Iā€™m only one step away from playable Earthen (just need the max level War Within Campaign), itā€™s more of something to do over something Iā€™m looking forward to do.
