The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Sharing another DeviantArt art piece of a Lizardmen/Seraphon army from Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar today! This one was created by MuhammedFeyyaz and was uploaded to the website on April 1st, 2021.

Artwork of the Lizardmen/Seraphon army together helps imagine what a Saurok army could look like in WoW. Complete with giant reptilian beasts and dinosaurs within their ranks. Iā€™m sure Saurok armies would look fearsome with creatures like giant mushan and devilsaurs, for example!

Iā€™ll continue to hunt for and share Lizardmen related artwork for playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

Still wanting Saurok for the Horde!

When thinking of Saurok, most people think them to be fairly dim witted, usually those on the feral side. Weā€™ve seen evidence that theyā€™re not dumb at all, especially since many of them have done things like being part of a pirate crew or being respectful in a temple among several other things.

On a similar note, most people may think reptiles arenā€™t particular smart in real life. This couldnā€™t be further from the truth, as a lot of them are pretty smart. Many of them can even be trained to an extent, as shown in these videos:

In relation to Saurok, I wanted to show some examples of how reptiles can be pretty smart and arenā€™t extremely dumb. Sure, some reptiles may not have high intelligence, but many of them are rather smart.

I suspect from the time that the Saurok were created from actual reptiles on Pandaria to current game time, some likely have evolved to having more intelligence. Maybe the Mogu did teach them some things or implanted some skills somehow, like language, which may have evolved since as Saurok procreated and more and more generations become a thing.

Some Saurok tribes are still feral-like while others have some intelligence. Likely it depends on the type of reptile they come from and what experiences they have. Still, they are capable of having intelligence and are far from stupid. After all, they did help to topple one of the evil Mogu empires.

Point is: Not all Saurok are dumb feral beasts. And if they got fleshed out more, Iā€™m sure theyā€™d be pretty cunning in many things. :lizard:

With August coming to an end, which once again really seemed to zoom by fast, news of next monthā€™s Trading Post items has been announced:

The monthly reward for filling the tasks bar is this blue crab mount:

In Saurok terms, nothing really related to them once again, though some of the items could look neat:

-The Gently-Used Cleaver would go well with a Saurok chef transmog set.

-The two bicornes could go well with a pirate Saurok transmog set.

Speaking of pirate stuff, rumors of pirates being a theme in the next expansion are continuing to pop up. While theyā€™re still rumors, I will say that Saurok pirates a thing with the Bilgerats, so if there is a strong pirate presence next expansion, we could see some appear. Preferably on our side that we can help sail their way to the Horde side of that character creation screen, of course! :pirate_flag: :lizard:

Iā€™ll continue to keep an eye on and report on Trading Post items. While I donā€™t really expect Saurok related items, you never know if weā€™ll actually see any someday!

Looks like our Saurok Ambassador got finished chopping some meat slices up for dinner. Though if that is a Gently-Used Cleaver, Iā€™d hate to see what a Roughly-Used Cleaver would look like!

Tried to get as good of a view and lighting as I could. Definitely worth the 50 tenders it cost, though! :lizard::hocho:

This alligator wants you to spread its proclamation across the land: Itā€™s a new month; the perfect time to submit in-game feedback for playable Horde Saurok and other races you want to see playable!

With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.

If youā€™re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

We got a new expansion announcement likely to occur soon, so itā€™s still a great time to show off support for the races you want playable! :lizard:

Sharing another art piece from DeviantArt today of a Lizardman Warrior. This one was created by Shinsen and was uploaded to the website on May 17th, 2009.

ā€œAphashia, Lizardman Warriorā€ by Shinsen on DeviantArt

A lot of this art piece seems Saurok-like when it comes to the NPC models. I could see Saurok dressed similarly when they go on hunts. The scale color pattern is also something that would work well as a Saurok scale customization, which I think is sorta in the game with the model I use for my Saurok Ambassador character.

As usual, Iā€™ll continue to keep an eye out for art pieces to share for playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

While working on Dark Talons rep in Forbidden Reach, I actually got this neat lizard mount to drop from a rare:

Seems to be able to drop from different rares with a 1% drop rate according to comments. Mine dropped from this one, which happened to be the third rare Iā€™ve ever killed there:

I wanted to share this mount to show how the game has lizard mounts and also to mention that this mount would make for a neat mount if we ever got playable Horde Saurok.

I donā€™t think there are currently any obtainable Saurolisk mounts to my knowledge, despite how Trogg NPCā€™s ride them, so this is one of the closest mount types to that. If Mushan wouldnā€™t be the Saurok racial mount, then Iā€™m sure the model skeleton from this mount could be edited for a Saurok racial mount. Maybe a bit fancier with more teeth and a RAWR personality. Devilsaurs could still be a fancy mount you could buy when you get enough rep, which would be a pretty big incentive to work on if Iā€™m being honest.

Just wanted to share this both for fun and for playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

I could see the Saurok as a Horde Race only.

So it looks like an old world (of Warcraft!) revamp or update is a possibility, though no timeframe on when it could occur:

In terms of Saurok, this is only of real interest if any Saurok decided to reside on any of the old world (of Warcraft!) areas. The only notable place would be Unā€™goro Crater, where there is that Saurok Dinomancer during that micro holiday, along with Hearthstone having some of them residing there already.

While an old world (of Warcraft!) revamp sounds very likely in the future, we donā€™t know when it would actually happen. However, when that time comes, Iā€™ll check out Unā€™goro Crater and keep an eye out for anything Saurok related elsewhere. Seeing as some Saurok have reached Kalimdor before, it is possible that other tribes could have as well. Hopefully they would be friendly tribes! :lizard:

In thinking of Saurok racial mount ideas, I wanted to share a video that shows off the alligator mount that is in FFXIV:

Cool isnā€™t it? There are some crocolisk mounts in WoW, and given there are crocolisks on Pandaria, I could see Saurok tribes raising them for mounts. Not to mention that already having a crocolisk mount in the game makes it a bit easier to implement them. This of course is just one suggestion, as there are several candidates for what could be the Saurok racial mount.

Also, yes, that alligator in the video above does fly. All mounts in FFXIV have the ability to fly if you so wish. Makes me imagine how an army of Saurok on flying crocolisks would look. Maybe we could see that with another type of reptilian flying mount. :lizard:

So it has been confirmed that the next patch will involve the Emerald Dream, and while the chances of anything Saurok related there are extremely low, I have read about different wild gods/loa making an appearance there.

Iā€™m sure we havenā€™t seen every single wild god/loa there, seeing as the patch is still being worked on, but it might be something of interest to keep an eye on. I doubt weā€™d see Kros there, but something Iā€™ve mentioned before is the playable Saurok faction following a wild god of some sort. Maybe this one helped lead them to safety from the Mogu, maybe itā€™s something the Saurok respect and feel strong following, or maybe they host epic BBQ pool parties.

Regardless, Iā€™ll keep an eye out on the types of wild gods/loa and see if any of them would be of interest to Saurok or could serve as an example of one. Not that Iā€™m expecting a whole lot in that regard, of course.

All I know is my Emerald Dream is seeing my green Saurok character with some of my other Saurok characters as champions of the Horde someday! :lizard:

I thought I would link some videos that show off the sounds of various reptiles. Seeing as how Saurok come from several reptiles the Mogu gathered up, itā€™s possible that Saurok could utilize some of these sounds to an extent. Videos are below:

I mostly imagine Saurok having a combination of growls and hisses, so seeing some RL examples helps some with imagining what Saurok could sound like. :lizard:

Sharing another art piece from DeviantArt today! This one is of a Lizardfolk relaxing under a tree. It was created by Sapphhyra and was uploaded on September 10th, 2020.

I can imagine a Saurok relaxing in a similar fashion in the Barrens. Nothing like relaxing under a tree after an epic hunt, polishing a trophy. The scale colors also seem very Saurok-like as well.

Arr me hearties! Ay be wantinā€™ ta wish a happy Pirate Day to all! Yarr!

Even the Saurok Ambassador is getting in on the pirate fun! Totally worth grinding the Bloodsail rep to get the toy!

Interestingly, when I use glyph of disguise on that Saurok model, the eyes become clear unless I do an emote for some reason, going back to being clear when the emote is done. It didnā€™t use to do that and the NPCā€™s seem fine. Iā€™d report it as a bug, but Iā€™m very worried about ā€œfun detectedā€ occurring when it comes to glyph of disguise and going to areas to take screenshots.

Also, I know the YouTube videos on the main post here and my Stonemaul Ogre megathread are image links to the Youtube page as opposed to being embedded videos. Iā€™ll be editing them very soon to see if I can fix it along with updating some sections. Hopefully it wonā€™t look like the quadratic equation exploded when I attempt to troubleshoot it.

But in the meantime, have a fun, happy, and safe pirate day! :pirate_flag::lizard:

Got a few update things to talk about today, but before I do, Fall has officially started! Huzzah!

My favorite season of the year!..when Summer isnā€™t still trying to desperately muscle in and shortened it, of course. :fallen_leaf:

First off, as I mentioned in the latest megathread update, Iā€™m planning to look into finally revamping the main post of the megathread. A lot has been discovered with Saurok research that I should add in, race/class design has evolved to where the class section should be a look at how those classes could fit for Saurok as opposed to what they could or shouldnā€™t be (aside from Evokers at the moment), and Iā€™ve been wanting to make the text a bit more easier to read and humorous like with my Ogre megathread. Iā€™m hoping to be able to sit down and get the revamp done really soon.

Second, October is coming up fast, which means Sauroktober is upon us!..in which I wish I knew how best to celebrate it. Likely Iā€™ll be doing the usual posts as I normally do throughout the month, but I am open to suggestions. No plans for any in-game events, which I donā€™t really have the time for them sadly, but hopefully I can think of something to do throughout the month to celebrate the occasion.

Third, Reptile Awareness Day is on October 21st. Iā€™ll be doing my yearly special post here and in the Sethrak megathread to celebrate it. Halloween is of course at the end of the month, which is one of my favorite holidays, so Iā€™ll see if I can find some fitting posts to do throughout the month.

Fourth, Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria still has the tentative release date of October 17th, with my pre-ordered copyā€™s ETA to have an ETA of October 19th. If the release date changes, which it could given the other books in the series had release dates pushed back, Iā€™ll be sure to mention it here. Otherwise, Iā€™m fully prepared to read it as soon as I can and report stuff back here, as well as any megathreads who would have an interest in it, such as the Jinyu/Ankoan and Rajani Mogu megathreads. While Iā€™m keeping an open mind when it comes to Saurok, itā€™s still exciting to have the possibility of new Saurok research to perform!

Fifth and finally, with October starting soon, weā€™re getting very close to when Blizzcon will begin on November 3rd. Iā€™ll go over this again when it gets closer to November 3rd, but Iā€™ll be posting info on what is announced for WoW, likely a new expansion announcement and what could be the last major Dragonflight patch, and of course if anything Saurok related comes out of it as well. Again, keeping tempered expectations, but still have the usual hope.

October is one of my favorite months in general, and with several things to look forward to, Iā€™m pretty excited. Hopefully Iā€™ll figure out some special stuff to do for Sauroktober as well, time permitting. :jack_o_lantern::lizard:

Iā€™m beginning work on the Saurok megathread revamp. Debating on whether I want to do it in sections or just one huge update. Itā€™ll still take awhile to type up the whole thread regardless, but Iā€™ll try to get it up and running. Again, any constructive suggestions are appreciated!

In the meantime, some news recently popped up regarding Chris Metzen:

Canā€™t say whether this could increase chances of seeing Saurok get more love in the lore or not. All we can really do is keep up the support for playable Horde Saurok as best as we can. :lizard:
