Good old ad hominem. Thanks for belittling people that spent time for something in the game, that Blizzard is literally changing on a literal whim.
The point isn’t whether or not the striders can still walk on water or not - it’s that Blizzard is making a change that forces us to pay to get back to the current state we’re at now with the striders. And then on TOP of that - the players with more characters get punished the worst. What kind of company implements a change that hurts the more loyal customers worse than the others?
Simply - “Having to pay gold to get back what we already have” is the main source of the contention.
What if you had to pay gold to get back the ability to wear heirlooms across characters?
What if you had to pay gold to get back the ability to use looted mounts across characters?
What if you had to pay gold to get back the ability use use transmogs across characters?
There would be similar issues brought up about those kinds of changes.
I’m sorry, but if I buy a cheeseburger, that doesn’t automatically mean I’m required to like it, and that my purchase thereof implies support for said cheeseburger recipe.
Customers are entitled to opinions of the products they consume, contrary to the high and lofty Blizzard acolytes.
In this particular instance, regarding mount equipment and the prune of the innate water-strider ability, Blizzard’s cheeseburger is dog spit.
You can pick the non-strider owners out of the crowd easily.
No matter how many ways you try to sneak the bs in, this is just a sleazy way to nerf the strider now and set up the nerfing of the feature in future patches/expansions.
we noticed too many people were using the strider to get around our tedious dazing mobs and stupid terrain
Sure, I can understand some frustration with you, and as best as I can say to help ease your pain, I spent SOOOooooo much money on reagents, ammo, to train my new spells and upgrade them, changing specs to run ZG, and many other things since vanilla that have changed over time. So, I feel your pain. They should have given me back everything I ever spent on anything they ever took out of the game!
However, at least you got X amount of time riding on the mount without spending any gold, and on the other side, the mount will be 1k now instead of 5k so there’s even more gold you spent, but again, you got your time. My best advice for you is to minimize the damage, just get the water things, don’t worry about other equipment, throw them in the slots and never worry about it again unless another system comes along in 8 years or so.
You do realize they are turning that mount into ground mount like the rest of them and they all share one equipment item with the proposed system, right? So what are you going to do if you equip the water walking piece and a week later you decide you want the parachute because that week youre doing WM, but after that week its useless so you want to go back to the water walking piece? Now expand that scenario over an entire expansion plus whatever equipment they add to the list.
Do some simple figuring. When this new system is implemented, say goodbye to the barding. And to replace the loss of barding, they will now allow crafters a recipe to make mount equipment. You’ll just get to wait for them to release the recipe! And it will probably be RNG from a raid.
This just screams “How can I get my way, AKA, how can I remove this water strider ability”
This whole expansions feels petty.
Yes, that’s the new system. You do realize (to use your words) that before this change, you could only choose to walk on the water on only that one mount and could not choose to slow fall or have anti daze on it, right? You do realize that now you will have the option of walking on water still available, but be given even more options. And, like everything else in life, if I want to change around for WM or whatever, I will buy the different things from people that make them and put them on the AH. Or, I’ll just keep water walking.
Personally, in WM, I would def suggest that when flying releases, since we can all dismount anyone flying in WM, you might want to invest in the parachutes for that. Otherwise, it’ll be splatsville.
Anyone else more than a little suspicious that the answer to water walking being too powerful is to make it more widely available to players?
Blizzard works like a Wish spell in D&D or an evil Djinn, there is always a catch.
I have the golem, have never bothered with the water-strider. I could unlock it in a week if I cared to, I’m not far from exalted (on another toon).
You have the ability to use water-walking on every mount in the entire game now. You played the game, focused on a reward, and got it. If your only mount in this entire game was the water-strider, I might understand your dilemma. However, I don’t think you’ve lost your reward.
If there were thousands of players with only one mount, and it was the water-strider mount, as they decided that was the only mount they’d ever get, because it can run on water, I’d understand feeling cheated. But, that’s not the case. You unlocked a ton of mounts I’m sure, and now every single one of them can run on water. Why would you complain about that?
If the effort required to unlock an item is such a tragic/difficult thing for you, you shouldn’t be doing it. You can’t actually think complaining to Blizzard about your dis-interest in the game is going to somehow change your perception.
I grind out items when I want to do the grind. I can’t begin to understand grinding something I loathe so passionately, that it is worth complaining about on the forum, publicly, making a complete fool of myself in the process.
I think the problem here isn’t Blizzard giving us unlimited options. The issue here is a large group of people play this game more as an unhealthy addiction than a fun past-time, and end up regretting the time they spend playing it as a result.
Your mount can still run on water. They give you the item in the mail. You can buy it super cheap from a vendor. Principled stances over minor inconveniences are ridiculous.
Yeah - you’re preaching to the choir:
Except thats what we have consumable items for. Water walking mount, barding for no daze, and goblin gliders for oh crap moments when falling.
Why would they add a mount equipment system and leave all of those items in? No one who already uses bardings would pick no daze and no one who uses gliders would pick the parachute, making that development time a waste (remember: we had to have LFR because they wanted to get their moneys worth out of people raiding).
It doesnt GIVE us options unless they continue releasing consumables that do the same thing, which will mean they made the equipment for nothing.
Honestly, until this stuff popped up, I never even know about those other things like barding and water walking potions. However, since you point them out, my suggestion is to choose mount equipment that works best for how you play. If you have barding and some stacks of water walking potions, then go for the slow fall. If you have gliders, then don’t buy barding and get some water walk potions.
You can’t wear multiple things at a time, so all of those items still have value.
It does give you options. It only takes them away if you decide you refuse to use those items to back up this stupid post.
You’re also making sweeping statements about other people, clearly unaware that you’re just projecting your own ideals onto other people, and getting mad at other people, for your own perception.
LOL o.o
Oh my gosh. Let me be the first to call you out for your utter and COMPLETE cluelessness, rotflmao.
I’ve been playing for the better part of 14 years. I’m RETIRED, and have a whole lot of time to play this game, and THAT I DO. You are completely off base.
Not only that, if you ACTUALLY READ what I’ve been saying all this time, I have no problem with people who want choices with their mount’s abilities.
You speak out of the south end of your body.
Yeah, I main a druid, and so I am usually just in travel form with my far leap. I don’t get dazed, and cannot be dismounted, and if I hit water it instantly converts me into a water mount and back when I hit land, so those items never were on my radar. It’s strange that you would think that just because you know something, that everyone else, everywhere, also knows it.
If you say so. Grats.
