My understanding is that Squelch is unending - it stays there until a GM gets to it and removes it or applies a penalty (Silence, Suspension, Ban). Once a penalty is applied an email is sent and such.
MVPs don’t work there though, so I can’t say that for 100%.
Edit - squelched accounts, due to the high volume of reports required to get to that point, tend to go to the top of the priority queue for GM review.

As someone who has been “squelched” I can tell you it starts off with a 1 day mute, and the second squelch progresses to a 3 day mute. The only way to remove this mute is by submitting a ticket for review. So your options are to sit the squelch or submit an appeal via ticket. GMs take several days to review these appeals, and the mute is usually over before.
In actuality, I believe GMs don’t even bother to look at a squelch case unless the squelchee attempts to appeal it.

Given current ticket response times, you’re exactly right - it’s faster to just wait it out!
Which is why this needs to be discussed further. (wherever that may be)
On top of that, they give you a message before the appeal that says “we will only lift punishments if an account has been compromised”.
This means that Blizzard doesn’t actually care if you’ve been squelched unjustly.

Then you got Silenced, not just Squelched.
The Silence penalty is a black mark on your account. Starting at 24 hours and doubling after that. The time given in the email is in universal time so it tends to be a bit odd figuring out the duration and when it ends.
Right now that is true. Ticket times are high. BUT it is important to get that black mark removed if it was a mistake. That way if you ever do mess up for real the next one won’t be even longer.
I have seen that theory. I sincerely hope it is not true. That is not how it works as I understand it.

It was a squelch. You are removed immediately from the game and have to log back in when you get squelched. The mute from the squelch begins immediately. That mute is not delivered by a GM.
EDIT: I got the squelch for doing the egg icon thing in chat. Everyone said “REPORT HIM REPORT HIM” and seconds later I was ejected from the game. I’m not contesting the mute, I’m just proving my point that day-long/multi-day long mutes are definitely delivered without attention from a GM.

Even if, yoh still want to appeal it. If you were not in the wrong you want the black mark removed from your account, so it does not double a lifted silence penalty.
Note the black mark I am talking about is if a silence is actually applied, not a squelch

Going to go ahead and close this topic since we do not allow discussion of disciplinary actions on the forums. If you wish to appeal this, you may do so through our support website.
I do see that the selection of chat you provided is not all that was reported and is not all that is being reviewed when Game Masters receive your appeal. There are several incidents of inappropriate language both in public and private chat channels.
