And I just had the disappearing act happen to me. I was soloing one of the rares as a druid. It was taking me a while, but I managed. By the time I was done with that rare, I looked at my map to go get the other one I wanted, and it had already despawned. Major fail Blizzard.
I hadn’t even considered that angle. Ugh.
Really? Now I feel bad. I’ll just go play dodge-the-orc to take my punishment like a Gnome!
Just a hunch but… a single rare being up at a time funnels all active players towards that single objective far better than an entire zone’s worth of rares being up.
Having that singular event be active allows people to just arrive there and hopefully expect other players to be waiting or already engaged with it. It seems silly to put in writing, but the more effortless these things are (especially good for introverted players), the better they function. It’s nice to just arrive at a rare spawn and see it already in progress and join in.
That said, they should be soloable too. And have a buff that tapers off as more players slowly join.
But my guess is that this is the first step and they’re going to see if this solves the issue or not. I think making everything soloable is their last resort as it would end up resulting in rares dying within a short few minutes of spawning by virtue that anyone stumbling by can kill them on their own.
But it’s just a guess, based off their recent design choices in the past year
That whole “we heard you” post was laughable anyways. No where in it did they say they were not going to go back on the 15min despawn policy. All they said was they supposedly found an issue causing the zone to be underpopulated and that they’re ever so slightly buffing the drop rates of some of the cosmetics.
What a freaking joke.
Oh no. Nevermind all of that. Ladeedaa. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along…
I haven’t gotten Brul to drop before or after the patch. I haven’t gotten Skarn to drop before or after the patch. I haven’t gotten any drake customizations to drop in the caverns ever.
Like at this point I’m just convinced my account has one of those bad seeds I hear people talking about because this happens in every zone that I can’t brute force collection of stuff. I’m still trying to get the Larion Pouncer from Shadowlands. Let alone the pet off of Ravenomous, and a few dozen other things in Shadowlands.
A better change would be to allow people who actually play on those low-pop realms to start rare groups in that zone by keeping the zone of whoever the raid leader is. I know on my realm I’ll see a bunch of rares up and start a group, only to be moved to Area 52 or Illidan after 2 people from those zones join my group and all the rares are gone.
That’s fine, i absolutely hate that place and i hate even more the niffen, i hate it so much that i max out the rep with them so i had never comeback to that place (kinda like i did in Korthia)
From a collectors point, which is mainly what the majority of people who kill these rares do; they won’t be going to a rare if it drops something they already have thus negating this “Funneling” unless its a pet that can be caged and traded/sold.
I hope you don’t mind if I yoink your entire post for my “Make Rares more accessible” thread in the CC.
No, please, I always wish people would cross-post my experience descriptions where Blizz will actually see it
So is Blizzard dead set on this change?? I’m not touching either zone if so. It really doesn’t have to be this complicated…
Seems so. They doubled down in a blue post and ignored the crux of the feedback given to them IMO.
Like, I’m glad they communicated, but man…
I like how they said “Thanks as always for your feedback; keep it coming!” like we didn’t complain to hell and back about the first time they took a paddle board embedded with nails and broken glass to the zone.
I hate to be a critic and it’ll probably cost me my 2nd term of being on the Community Council but I tried to be civil about it first and got ignored, so now I feel I have to bring out the torch and pitchfork.
I’ll go ahead and add my experience this morning for you to add to your list, Ravij.
I got on and figured I’d go see if Subterrax and Alcanon were up since I need the cosmetics from them from still. While waiting at Alcanon’s spawn I went and killed the following:
Brullo
Invoq
Aquifon
Underlight Queen
Subterrax
Granted I needed stuff for all the ones on that list which is why I bothered with them, but that’s not the point. I still hadn’t gotten Alcanon by time I ended up saying screw it I’m not waiting and went to do some Mythics with guildies since I’m behind on those still. I used to be able to just pop down there and find Alcanon up fairly reliably. But the past few days? Nope. Hell, I typically had to wait around for Subterrax to show up.
There is absolutely no reason to make the rares despawn simply because no one has tried to kill them recently. Just leave them up. If you nerf their healthpools and damage, make them respawn faster, and buff the drop rates on the stuff they drop that collectors want, we’ll all be down there killing them more and engaging with the content that is ostensibly outdated despite being part of the current expansion. And while we’re at it, take them back to a daily loot lockout instead of the stupid four day one.
We used to call that a “giant ball of death” during wod in Ashran.
It looks like they’ve added a despawn timer to Huolon, too. I wonder what other things they have done to make playing the game unbearable for collectors.
I don’t know why they’re so afraid of the logical thing that would make their players happy. Instead it’s like their thought process is “How can we make them mad to the point they set the whole forums ablaze with discourse?” Like is our hatred a currency they use to run the servers? Cause combined in a month they have enough to run the game for 50 years.
What purpose does making things with highly sought after rewards DESPAWN after a period of them just sitting their? Now I’m doubly glad I spawn camped that mount in BFA but I weep for the people that go their randomly to hunt it now.
This brings into question “Do they WANT us to waste more of our time to SPAWN CAMP a rare?” Because that’s all these “despawn after inactivity” changes promotes. Spawn camping and time wasting. Ridiculous. Ion shouldn’t have said “We want to respect players time” if not even a week after blizzcon Emerald Dream does the opposite.
In this case, if no one is waiting on huolon, he flies away and circles overhead indefinitely, until someone sees him at the top of the hill and shoots him down. This happens on dead realms.
Ion says a lot of things. A lot of people will support him no matter what he says.
Oh no, that’s happened since the beginning so it’s nothing new. He has a little spawn in lag before he flys around.
I know it wasn’t a popular patch but why can’t the korthia system of mobs being generally weak and scaling up after ~5+ people hitting it not be the plan going forward? Dragonflight rares have felt generally awful due to being massive hp sponges if more then one person dares attack them. Rares should feel like a good thing to have around, seeing them should feel like a lucky event rather then a “well I can’t do this I don’t have a summon stone for this dungeon and the gear sucks” that cavern and emerald dream rares seem to have.
