You’re absolutely correct about this. Ret is impossible to balance with their current design. They’re either going to be overpowered or underpowered because you can’t balance a low mobility, low uptime, low CC, high burst damage melee class.

The way Ret is designed, the only way they can get any kills is if they can basically 1 shot someone during their burst. If they can’t get a kill during their burst, then they’d be a joke class.

It is time that Ret gets a complete redesign.

They don’t think it’s fine. They understand that the only way Ret can win with its current design is this way. Which is dumb but Blizzard needs to redesign Ret because it is currently impossible to balance.

Man I hate these forums. I hope nothing happens to paladin. A lot of these people are also bad players and copycat what other people say. If you take rets away, which rets are balanced and fine. Another thing is going grow up and be overpowered. And I know it wont be fun.

This, ret’s design is pretty fricken awful. WoD ret was a lot of fun though at least in my opinion. The spec is just so horribly designed and unfun to play and play against. Sadly I don’t think we’ll see a redesign until next expansion which is bad news for ret mains.

Yap, never forget BfA S2 ret, eesh that was a dark time for ret. But in S1 of BfA it was so broken strong lmao. There’s just no middle ground with the spec as it sits.

Game needs to go back to strong sustain. At most you should be looking at a 20% damage buff, or 20% crit, or 20% haste, etc. That way the difference between pressing a cooldown and normal sustain damage is only a slight bump in the ability to net a kill.

I really think Ret would be more enjoyable to play, and play against if they had just addressed what the community has been wanting since Legion:

• more mobility
• higher sustain, rather then burst
• magic defensive options so casters can’t 100% manhandle us

Ret should be a support class. We should have strong heals that are casted (not instant cast) so there is a risk versus reward for getting kicked. We shouldn’t obliterate people because we stack divine toll, wake of ashes, and optional final reckoning all with wings and pray for RNG crits to obliterate people like we saw in the video.

It’s such a travesty of a spec that every expansion blizzard over does it with damage, we eat multiple nerfs, and then by the 2nd or 3rd season we become useless. The damage is to low once we get into later seasons, and they never buff us to compensate. It’s awful class design from an awful team.

Yeah like I tried to point out, a lot of those wins come from buff stacking + good crit RNG. You can do the same thing over and over not necessarily have the same results. It’s poor design through and through.

It’s frustrating on both sides. Frustrating as a player who just wants a consistently good spec with solid choices to respond to the enemy, and frustrating to the enemy who gets YOLO deleted by this crappy “blow all cooldowns in 3 GCD’s and pray for crits” design.

The “rework” (if you can call it that) that they did for SL was just bad. WOG healing being good is nice, but it needed to retain it’s max charges with a cooldown if it was going to do as much healing as it initially did pre-nerfs. Seraphim should of never been an option on the current row, or at all, but it should be competing for a spot on the final row of talents as another choice that adds damage to the wings damage window. Divine toll needs to be reworked to “always procs it’s 2 judgments,” but those additional hits should be unable to crit and be more about the holy power generation then anything else.

Without all those crits he wouldn’t of killed any of them, then would of had minor follow up that could be easily outhealed. That’s the current issue with the crit lotto

i dont understand the ret hate at all…its like the 3rd or 4th best melee spec in the game right now and usually its unplayable in 3’s
