Realm Consolidation Update - Season of Discovery

How much gold is " a large amount of gold"… Like how much is allowed?

As an Aussie, I started WoW back in vanilla on Durotan (US server). Blizzard understood the issues and challenges of Oceanic players back then and introduced OCE servers 18 years ago, almost to the day. My Aussie guild at the time didn’t blink an eye and we paid to transfer to the new low-ping, better maintenance timeframe server, and players that play during our peak. And those that were able to, paid for our fellow guildies and friends to make the move too, especially those younger and scared to ask parents for their credit card or unable to pay.

This is how important OCE servers are to us.

You mention high-ping, but you haven’t mentioned the impacts of maintenance during our peak windows, and the fact that moving us to US servers may not even solve the population “crisis” and lack of group availability, as most available players will be playing during our offpeak periods – so what is being solved exactly?

OCE servers and OCE solutions are an innate part of WoW’s DNA and Blizzard’s solutionising for their players. It’s now 2024. The solutions shouldn’t be harder than they were back in 2006. Hopefully, this isn’t another example of Blizzard taking the easy and cheapest route possible at the expense of their fans.

I understand the servers aren’t viable with their current population. But, there must be other solutions available. If they take time to develop, build, and test, then delay this decision.

As it stands, the current decision will ruin player’s plans for the future phases. It will split up guilds and friendships. It will make this amazing journey we’ve all been on together through SoD suddenly shift towards the worse and leave a stain on the memory of it, for both Blizzard and OCE players, forever.

You definitely should, yes. Seems kind of silly at this point to punish anyone who has only ever made characters on Crusader Strike with the inability to have both factions, when everyone else gets to have both.

And I say this as someone who has a Horde character on another server so I can take advantage of this ‘dirty secret’.

At this point, there’s more people who will have both factions than won’t, so there’s no point in maintaining the PvP faction restriction for some of the population but not the rest.

A huge problem I don’t see being addressed is guild names, in p1/p2 there were a lot more players and guilds which are now inactive. This wouldn’t be an issue if we were going to a fresh new server, but we are going to established servers where there are a ton of inactive guilds. Is there any plan to release these guild names so that we can retain or have a chance at retaining the guild names we have established ourselves as? I also have heard and seen screenshots of people on the destination realms claiming guild names before the merger has even happened to grief the people who will be transferring to these realms.

Yes, this is bad form IMO. Having to monitor personal X account replies to get the news first is messed up.

I don’t think they genuinely do. Blizzard considers the bigger streamers to be the voice of the community. There is also a symbiotic business relationship between the devs/company and the streamers. The for profit streamers get a private discord and get listened to often while the average passionate player, who isn’t making a living off of WoW but shares sometimes very detailed feedback for free, is considered a “troll”.

The worst part is that streaming attracts narcissists - the most selfish and ego driven people in existence. These types deserve no respect and no one should ever listen to them.

Anyway, the writing was on the wall for what’s happened here with the servers.

On Blizzards end, a realm connection Era style would have been less impactful to the players and guilds, they refused to do this though, mostly for financial reasons, and they’ve said as much.

Although I do think this was the right call for Wild Growth as the only NA PVE server. OCE I think should have the choice to transfer but that server should remain open to new characters.

The PVP to PVE thing I think there’s a faction balance concern. People should keep providing their feedback on this though.

You asked for strong opinions from Oceanic, we rallied. Shadowstrike came together across guild and realm Discords and discussed at length, and there was a clear sense of disappointment with the proposed merge to US.

Twitter feedback on your reply:

Forums:

Podcast: Countdown to Classic (to be released Mon morning for US, please check it for Shadowstrike voices)

This merge comes with more down-sides for Oceanic than US/EU and that should be given consideration:

  • Ping: We chose Oceanic servers for best performance
  • Differing peak hours
  • Unable to provide informed feedback until the past 24 hours because we did not know if we were included
  • Wild Growth/Crusader Strike have an advantage over character names as destination server.

Many players have expressed they would rather quit than deal, even with the larger available player pool.

Findings from Feedback

  1. The most agreed on idea is that Oceanic players have the ability to seed an instance ID with Oceanic latency. This is a compromise for our high-end raiding community
  2. Sharding between Shadowstrike and Crusader Strike and Sharding between Penance and Wild Growth
  3. An Oceanic layer existing on the US mega-server
  4. Merging Penance and Shadowstrike into an Oceanic mega-server

Please let us know if any of the above are options

Penance (OCE PVE) have accepted that we will have to merge somewhere. This Mega Server announcement was the end either way. There are plenty of guilds still raiding that need new recruits and we are only be able to do so if other guilds collapse or we transfer.

We will move, but we are sacrificing a great community as well as our ping. Playing on Penance has been mostly free of griefing. We have minimal ninja looting. If someone is behaving poorly they get called out in LFG and it stops. I am devastated to lose this wonderful group of people amongst the sea of anonymity. <3

I think most of us were hoping to remain OCE and perhaps have the option to ‘discover’ warmode. That would allow PVP players to continue whatever madness they enjoy and let the rest of us opt out.

Clearly the dev team don’t have time to do that right now. The mega server announcement was the sign that Penance is over. Hopefully enough of us make it through the transfers to get to a place where we can have OCE servers again. I won’t hold my breath.

Thank you for the answers regarding the transfer limitations. Much appreciated!

Please pay attention to this post. +100

Thank you for being open to feedback and opinions. We are hoping for a better solution to the Oceanic issue, such as Oceanic seeded raid instances. That would be the best of both worlds and a huge W for our small community. Some players really value their ping and I don’t want to lose guildies over it.

The Ping that OCE players are going to get from US servers will make alot of people stop playing SOD

Wait… help if can
My friend (alliance) is on Crusader Strike RPPVP. You mean to say, I cannot join her at the moment… can I roll on a non-RP PVP server… and then FCM over to Crusader Strike? Does it have to be a seasonal PVP or can it be a different realm. I’m lost…

and what is sad is that I haven’t played WoW in a decade, and I decided TODAY to get back into it, just to get into this… what a bummer LOL. Why today out of allllll days to get back into WoW.

US ping is a massive deal breaker for OCE. I honestly haven’t had issues finding pug groups for much content except for levelling dungeons. There are always enough people online to run school, strath or whatever. The community on penance is exceptional and it has been great playing within it. Offering moves will kill the server.

As other people have mentioned we need a way to maintain our ping via OCE layer or OCE instances for BG’s, dungeons and raiding. I know it might not be possible by merge day but even if it came shortly after it would make all of OCE happy and feel valued.

Honestly at this point I’d rather not move but even the offer of the move will kill the server.

Form a mega server for Oceanic and enable war mode!!!
This allows PVE players to do their thing still, and the PVP players can enable war mode and still do theirs. It’s a win for all, and we still keep our server and low ping. We get to stay within our guilds, keep our friends and a community that has been built. This would also lessen the likelihood that people will quit and keep playing as many have said a move would stop them from playing!

I’d say the same for the rest of the regions, there’s no point to not do that unless you want a griefing fiesta which is what is like to pvp right now on open world pvp.

Yeah you just got super unlucky lol.

You can wait till September 19th to make a character on Crusader Strike once they unlock it again, or you can make a character on Lone Wolf or Living Flame now and play it until September 17th and transfer it over then.

Merge Pen and shadow together and call it a day, don’t lock character creation. Any thing else is just bad. I can’t raid US times and the ping is way to bad to tank/heal effectively. I stopped playing outside of raids once you mentioned the megaserver because it was blatantly obvious that you had zero intention of ever keeping OCE servers alive. Across two guilds i raid with on SS, there is maybe 5 people that will keep playing, I’m not one of them. Would you ask a US player to play on OCE lag for them… Not a chance!
Thanks for ruining the last good version of wow.

Oceanic community are all in agreement we do not want a merge but if you aren’t going to listen to us then at the bareminimum we want oceanic seeded instances on NA

Oceanic has always been a smaller region we all know how it is when we made the decision to play here it was the same in som and all other servers on oceanic and we are fine with it.

What we aren’t happy about is the dev team making poor decisions that have impacted the playerbase causing these issues to begin with.

Whether you like it or not banning GDKP’s had a huge impact on the playerbase and its extremely disappointing that up till now you’ve completely ignored all feedback on this topic even after stating it was a test and could be revisited.

If you want to actually help the game then start making dev decisions that bring players back and make the game fun and then you wouldn’t need to lump everyone together into a mega server.
