PSA: flagging is NOT a downvote button

You’re a little petty eh?

we’re probably on the same level of “omg. this person just needs to be told.” :joy:

i had to go find some of tupacs posts

it looks like they’re just bored and doing the “devils advocate” thing… which can be fun at times.
but… i think they misjudged their timing.
everyone is too fed up with everything right now.

With how often that happens we know that’s not the case.

Though i feel somewhat responsible for getting downvote removed. Most gimmick posters and all mvps would get a downvote

They do need to enforce that more often, I agree.

PREACH! Mods, can we pin this please?

Apparently disagreeing with someone is now trolling. The most reports I get though are from stating obvious things that make certain groups angry. Like saying that a class with one dps spec should get priority in balancing vs my random 3rd spec. And that rolling a pure isn’t an i win button for top dps and that the hybrid tax doesn’t exist. Feed me your rage, mages.

Flagging a post just ensures I’m going to read it so It’s almost an upvote in that respect.

A lot of peoples post are flag worthy though, let’s look at the rules

Now, how likely is it do you think that someone on these forums will say something “inappropriate” by that broad definition we are given? “Content that a reasonable person would consider offensive or abusive”? That’s like 99% of forum posts lol.

They need to bring back the downvote function. Don’t allow it to bury posts, just have it be something you can click along with upvotes.

There’s of course always the Reddit system in which upvotes and downvotes cancel each other out, but there’s also the Daily Mail comment system, in which you can see both (for instance, a comment could show as having 24 upvotes and 32 downvotes).

Being able to click ‘downvote’ would by itself help civilize things somewhat…people wouldn’t have to risk getting into some heated toxic imbroglio when they can just click something as a bit of a pressure release. Like the “close doors” button in elevators.

I’ve been given a forum vacation before with the reason stated as “false flagging”… however every post I flagged was for CoC violations… that fact didn’t change anything though, still got the week long vacation…

false flagging is definitely real… ive gotten 3-4 vacations for it.

ive gotten a week also… it’s usually 3 days.

They need a head on a pike example of this. Because I frankly don’t think it happens. Blizz needs active feedback on reports. Even Twitter a very leftist site. Follows up on reports.

most of the time i have reasonable posts deleted is because i say something and people who are right wing flagged it down because it upset them. as a matter of fact the only things consistently flagged for me were obviously things right wing people find offensive. if you think being left wing means we’re all people who are water frozen falling from the sky you’ve never made a post about white privilege and then immediately had it flagged down because it hurt someones feelings

fBecause legitimate posts were being downvoted and hidden because other people didn’t agree with what was being said.

Just because you don’t agree with it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

And no, the answer isn’t “don’t hide the posts” - downvoting also encourages people not to post in fear of being downvoted. People should be encouraged to share their opinions.

Not voting, just agree or disagree. Nothing was wrong with it beyond someone’s feelings got hurt if other’s didn’t share the same opinions.

i have been banned from the forum recently for saying f night fea alt f4 plz…

the reason for the banning offencing…

Except downvoting also hid the post, and discouraged people to post their opinions in fear of being downvoted.

Removing downvoting was the best decision the forum CMs ever made.
