PSA: flagging is NOT a downvote button

The best I can figure is that the individuals who moderate the forums have a much broader definition of what trolling is than what their Code of Conduct says.

If you post a left wing talking point you get your post removed if its flagged. If its a right wing talking point you get a forum vacation. I’ve compared my slaps with conservative friends and its just the way it is. I am very left wing but the way things are is not okay. Not every right winger is a bigot.

Moderators aren’t GMs. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why half of the OP was about ideas to change that.

Posts above yours.

Assuming the post isn’t then buried, people are more likely to share their opinions and risk being downvoted than they are to share their opinions and risk getting someone spewing vitriol at them or flagging them because there wasn’t a downvote option.

There’s a big difference with the “left wing” posts you’re talking about, that are all about acceptance, and the “right wing” posts you’re talking about that are usually the opposite.

I’ve seen left-wing posts get removed/actioned before because they were hateful. Just like I’ve seen plenty of right-wing posts remain intact and unactioned because they weren’t being hateful.

Is it bad i just expect most of those posts to be awful and unless they’re being racist or transphobic I just gloss over it? Right wingers seem very angry. I mostly just try to ignore it.

You know how to correct this?

Bring back downvote.

I have had many posts reported and flagged on this forum, and they just get overturned. Nothing happens if you don’t do anything wrong.

I found it much more discouraging when one of my posts went to -200 on voting because I said we should get a free recustomization after the WoD model change, (this was before they added everything to the barber shop, back then you could still only change hair and like one other option).

Of course, when wowhead posted about how we wouldn’t be able to change our stuff for free, EVERYONE started to post about it, which just made me really angry that people downvoted me trying to warn them and be proactive rather than you know, actually realize that maybe just because the issue isn’t a problem YET because it’s beta, doesn’t mean it won’t be.

Meanwhile the posts that get flagged don’t bother me, because I don’t do anything that violates the CoC. I have been forum silenced once and it was for a reason I still 1000000% do not agree with, as it did not break the CoC. In fact, it’s literally covered in the CoC specifically. Lol.

It seems like your complaint there is that a lot of people disagreed with you (for whatever reason–the issue itself, perhaps the way your worded it, etc) and as a result, you want to make it harder for people to do so. That seems…disingenuous at best.

Trying to get someone banned because you disagree with them is ridiculous l.

The issue with downvoting is that it buried threads. And people wouldn’t read them once they saw how many negatives the thread had. They’d just ignore the OP and troll in the thread.

It has nothing to do with wording. I actually remember that thread. It was one of the prime examples used when the complaints about downvotes began.

No one is being disingenuous. The point is to actually talk on a forum. This isn’t YouTube.

Yet it still happens now, because flagging still buries threads/posts.

A solution to a problem (removing downvotes because it buried threads) should not create an even bigger problem (people frivolously reporting threads to bury threads they don’t agree with).

Bring back downvoting, and the frivolous reports will likely decrease by 75% overnight.

That’s why I said, downvoting without burying threads.

And plenty of people talk on Reddit, despite having the capacity to downvote as well as upvote.

They should just bring back the down vote button.

Problem solved.

Thus why this thread was supposed to also talk about solutions…

It won’t. You’ll find people still reported and still buried. You literally said this system didn’t change anything. Why do you think bringing it back would miraculously fix it?

I agree, very few posts are really ‘false’ flagged. Even OP’s who admitted they already made a similar thread before could be considered spam.

Wrong. The thread was a year old. That’s not spam. Blues told us don’t bump ages old posts and make a new one. That’s what I did.

And there’s a very simple one: bring back downvoting.

No, if downvoting came back, with the ability to bury posts as they did before, you’ll find controversial (but still CoC abiding) posts buried, but not reported as they are now.

You can test that but trust me they still ban people.

Hypothetically speaking people do get tired of one month vacations.

You aren’t supposed to bump your own thread - period. Regardless of how long ago you made it.
