Please RE-Merge OCE+US

Dear Blizzard,

As we all know you merged OCE+NA realms for BGs and arena at the beginning of the TBC prepatch and caught a lot of backlash, eventually resulting in a reversion of the changes.

At the time many Australian based players believed that there would be a large arena player base and that they’d be able to live their dream of re-playing arena with 20 ping instead of 400.

It seems pretty clear that this was a mistake.

5v5 arena can only be queued on certain days and ONLY at night time.
3v3 arena can only be queued after 3pm if you want to get a match.
2v2 is playable until 1600 most of the time, but if you are for example 1800 you will sit 15 minute queues if you try to queue in the morning.

My rogues team queued at around 1950 MMR at the peak time of 9:30pm last night, we got a 1900 team maybe 3 times until they stopped at which point we sat a 16 minute queue in order to be matched against a 1500 team.

Merging regions would make queues great for OCE at any time, and would fix some of the current off-peak queue issues for NA. (this was part of the region BG9 was so good once upon a time)

To be clear, the way it was merged originally was a mistake. It should be implemented similarly to the current RETAIL system in which Aussies generally queue into Aussies unless there are no teams queueing at a similar rating. Additionally, Aussies should not be put onto US east servers as it’s really hard for people from Western Australia to queue into us EAST ping.

This system already exists in retail so it shouldn’t be a major issue.

I encourage Aussies to comment here with their thoughts as it seems like we’re only going to get help if we kick up a stink.

Agreed with all of the points above - even if the first 3m of every queue only looked for OCE vs OCE games and then broadened out to include US (and then placed us on US West server for games). Having depth and the ability to play games vs a variety of comps is far more important than having OCE vs OCE only.

OCE playing in the morning/noon will give us queues into prime time US and later into the night will vs mostly OCE teams, or some late night / early morning US players - its a really good combination and provides us the ability to play when we wish.

Please consider reverting this change immediately like the olden days.

from what i understood, aussies would much rather play with good ping and not constant lag than faster queues. dont blame them in the least.

The player pool is simply far too small to get consistently balanced matches with any variety beyond a certain point. It’s as if you’re dealing with rank 1 queues but you’re absolutely nowhere near rank 1 rating. A casual player that happens to be even slightly higher rated cannot really arena when they want to.

Long term this is horrible for Oceanic PvP and it is highly likely many players will quit out of boredom or be forced to roll on US Servers like Faerlina so they can actually play the game. Please re-merge the BG groups.

Disagree, As a OCE Player I would not welcome back that change at all.

Bring back Horde V Horde matches, don't merge us with US East & US West.

In terms of Arena, meh. You'd probably find more comps queuing if the current honor system wasn't completely butchered by Blizzard on pre-launch week. Too much of a time sink atm

**Edit**:

**TRANSFER TO A NORTH AMERICAN SERVER IF YOU WANT NORTH AMERICAN PING & POOL**

There is nothing stopping you guys from transferring to a North American server if you want to be in the North American bracket and you don't care about your ping.

The people above posting have multiple 70s, it's not as if you're leaving the server entirely, I know personally that several of you above me in the thread have multiple 70's because we're all from the same community. Send your alt off to NA, you're the minority.

****ADDITIONAL EDIT**:** It is often forgotten and overlooked about how this change would impact the American community itself, does the American community want to deal with laggy Oceanic players in Arena? Why should an entire continent be dragged into this problem? What's in it for the Americans here?

I do not share this above opinion anymore, but instead of deleting the post due to the amount of people that still respond to this specific post, I’ll leave it up for transparency sake.

Majority rules, and majority are in favour of the reversal again (as in to restore NA / OCE for Arena), therefore said change is necessary.

Us/latam players 120-500 ms by playing with oce realms in pvp situations it’s a disaster. This happens on every situation on retail too where the lag is just absolute destroys the game experience you end up leaving and not joining any group pve or pvp wise.

Personally I think this is fine the way it is… I’m sorry for oce players but not much players can do on this end.

They overestimated the oceanic player pool. If you’re past a certain (not even elite) rating you sit a long queue to play 1 team that you stomp maybe a few times till they stop queuing then you’ve got nothing. If you’re not even in glad range you shouldn’t have to organise arena times with your opponents if you’re queuing at a perfectly reasonable time.

/shrug. they seemed pretty unhappy with the lag too.

Playing with a bit of lag vs not playing at all. I know which I’d prefer.

You can notice the lagspikes by partying up on any instance with oce players it’s really bad to the point that you have to leave or just play with 2-5 seconds delay.

Who wants this situation to sacrifice game quality of the game vs quantity of players?

While we’re on this topic, I think it’s important that before people start posting “I didn’t feel the impact of higher ping when they tested the merge” that everyone understands that your ping is dependent on distance.

Not everyone will get the same experience as you, the further you are away - the worse your experience will be on US servers. The closer you are physically, the better your experience will be.

Also, please be mindful @OP that Blizzard merged OCE with “US East” as well as US West, which provides an AWFUL experience for Oceania. If they ever do plan on merging us again, it’s important to highlight the concern and requirement specifically for US West over US East.

The last thing someone in Perth wants is to connect into a US East Battlegroup… Yikes!

Careful what you wish for, would you rather play with a bit of lag, or a heap of lag, or not playing at all?

If you guys are going to start promoting the restoration of this initial merger, please be mindful that Oceania does not want anything to do with US East servers.

If it HAS to happen (which I personally am against), it needs to be US West and not East.

Use to arena on 300+ ms in wrath

What’s your point sorry? Are you saying that because you dealt with it in the past that everyone should now be forced to deal with US East servers?

Unless you failed to read my comment, I’m clearly promoting the use of merging US West on the basis that US East stays the hell out of our queues.

That is definitely something you would want, yes?

lol id just rather not play at that point, especially in current times

Last I heard Oceanic wouldn’t match with US-East even on retail.

But I completely disagree with you, some lag is infinitely better than not playing at all. If you aren’t a heavy arena player and only dabble you’d probably only get OCE pops anyway as to my understanding it still priortises OCE v OCE if possible. If they implement same faction v faction BGs it would also likely match you on OCE.

You might not but some people still would and they don’t have a choice.
