I think they’re referring to the fact that you can’t have more than one character per server with the same name.
Exactly. When Blizzard did connected realms, they could’ve introduced surnames back then and just ‘close’ a few by having everyone pick a surname.
Blizzard has closed realms before, haven’t they? I seem to remember seeing some chaos in Season of Discovery due to it.
I made a suggestion in this thread, for a RP preferenced layer, if we can’t have RP realms. RP Layer Preference

It really isn’t too much to ask for a notable part of the community to get what we want with a single realm.
Cataclysm Classic is dead, Season of Discovery isn’t really Classic WoW, Hardcore is… Hardcore.
This is the only opportunity to play the original experience properly, and the best original experience was on RPPVP realms, where you had all the PvE content, all the PvP content, and all the community-driven RP content in one place.

That’s what makes the absence of an RP option so baffling. It’s an entirely valid rule set and community that they’ve just up and decided to ignore with no explanation.
RP has been a part of wow since the beginning and fits in very well with the ethos of Classic. Makes you wonder why they would go out of their way to not include us this time.
There was even a tweet that said we’d get an RP realm but was later retracted as a “copy editing error”, which indicates the lack of RP is quite intentional.
What we don’t know is why.

You never know, although I doubt with this being a holiday week that any important meetings or announcements are scheduled. Most of the team is probably out tomorrow and Wednesday.

One would think, but honestly no. We don’t know the reasons why. They haven’t said anything other than the tweet announcing one was a type-o.
