Please blacklist covid/corona from player names

It impedes on other’s lives when you try to get someone banned from a game because you personally don’t like it. The OP wants Blizzard to censor it because it upsets him. People getting their name reported and forced to be changed is a mark against the account.

That is because many matters are circumstantial. There is no “one size fits all” sort of answer. This is why, if you kill someone, if the circumstances go accordingly you will not be punished for it. I know its an extreme example, but I find people can get the concept better.

It certainly is possible. For example, one individual at a place of business I frequent made a joke regarding the corona and was fired. The reason? The owner had a loved one who is immunocompromised and at high risk for it. Fully within his right to do so. Never say never.

If it affects work, or social dealings, it certainly can be.

Mmm…duty wise it is debatable. Is it my duty to report someone stealing a car? Is it my duty to do anything unless compelled by law? Or do I do so because it is morally correct?
Can I force them? That again depends on the situation. Maybe telling them “hey, that isn’t okay” is enough to have them reconsider their actons.

Words are never just words.
Depending on what you say, and how you say them, you can convince people to either acknowledge they are wrong, justify the evil they do and more.
One should never act as if their words do nothing. There is a reason, after all, assault is considered a crime and why verbal and emotional abuse are a thing.

Now mind you, again, I am using extreme examples. It is reductive however, to make such a statement.

If Blizzard agrees, then clearly, their behavior is not acceptable in the culture they are doing the behavior in, and they should reconsider their action. Censorship sometimes is a good thing. There are standards for a reason.

Doubt that was within the employment contract.

Not even remotely the same. When they start actioning people who have “flu” in their character’s name, let me know.

Hardly projection. You reacted in a volatile way to my example, meant to establish that one does not need to be a victim to fight for a cause.

No?
Then perhaps you were merely wishing to dodge the actual point of my statement because you had no counter.

Telling someone not to joke about something is inviting even more people to joke about it. They only stop joking when someone they love dies from it.

Lul, right. So you’re one of those individuals who get some sick pleasure out of controlling others. Disgusting. Nice straw man arguments you’ve made, by the way.

It was a ridiculous statement in the first place. Comparing people being upset over WoW usernames to people protesting enforced segregation?

If you honestly believe the two are even remotely comparable, then you’re way too far gone to even be concerned with.

It depends on the state you work in and the business that employs you. If you really believe its hard to fire someone and create a BS reason to avoid reprise for it then you’re ignorant.

That tends to be the case. Its hard for people to imagine a problem if it isn’t an immediate concern.

But that’s the thing… it isn’t funny. It doesn’t even look like an attempt at humor that failed.

It is just something a 13 year old would do to try and get under people’s skin.

Most of the time when someone is fired they don’t fight it because why would someone stay where they are not wanted. To actually legally fire someone is much harder though.

Most contracts I have had have had a line something like " not so anything that brings the company into disrepute" or whatever. Trying to fire someone over a joke under that is pretty weak.

In your opinion. Look, I agree, however, humor really is in the eye of the beholder.

Here we go. I’ve offended the person behind the screen. Now they’ll make some brash comment that is in no way related to justify being upset I don’t agree with them.

Yep.

How did I strawman you? In what ways does that justify your weak sauce assumption?
I literally said “you’re right in some circumstances, wrong in others”, and you lost your mind over it.

It is a good thing I was not making the comparison of the two.
The underlying point was to counter your statement of “You wouldn’t say something if you weren’t upset!”.
You ignored the point again.
Is it because you believe you are being attacked in some way? You’re not.

Not to mention, it depends who they made it to. If it was a customer I could somewhat see it, but if it was just joking around with another employee, nope, not going to happen.

It is pretty weak, it is pretty messed up, and so usually, they justify it with something else.
“Did not meet performance expectations” yadda yadda yadda.
Even if the real reason was something else, something horribly petty.
It is why HR is at times, completely and utterly useless. They are there moreso for protecting the business than protecting employees from bad management.
It is stupid and shouldn’t happen, but it does, and mainly since businesses operate under different rules than the public.

puts up flame shield

The mage just used her cooldown and my banish is on CD

Bingo!

Nice. Misquoting, and adding an exclamation mark for good measure, impressive.

Seems to me that you’re trying to portray me as ‘upset’ to project the ‘triggered’ title onto others, since I’m simply pointing out that it’s ridiculous to be ‘outraged’ at an in-game username and to be lobbying for further censorship because of it.

You brought up Bernie Sanders standing with Civil Rights activists in a conversation about people lobbying for banning certain usernames in game. That’s a far cry from “not making the comparison of the two”.

Yea good luck proving that too. That takes months of performance reviews and meeting and warnings etc. I k ow because when I was a training teacher I had my bi weekly meeting with the head of department just after he had his meeting with someone he was trying to get rid of. It took half a year for her to get a job elsewhere and leave. She still wasn’t fired though.

That’s a pretty terrible precedent to set because someone could just as easily kick up a stink about anything then.
