Please blacklist covid/corona from player names

Nope. Not even remotely upset. You’re a faceless internet nobody to me. I’m sure you’re very pained we’ll never be friends.

So a person can just spew out anything hateful and simply claim it is humor and everyone else should just deal with it?

Should everyone create a racist or homophobic character and claim it is humor?

Look, I generally prescribe to it is all okay or none of it is. But, WoW has already decided that all of it is not okay.

I was not quoting you, I was summarizing your statement.

Ergo.
“People won’t say anything unless it bothers them.”
I have not misquoted you in anyway.

I do not need to portray you given there is a quoting system.

Hrmm, I’ve explained the reason for the comparison twice now, in simple terms both times. I suppose you are a lost cause. You are so invested in the notion that people be free to say or do whatever they please you are deaf/blind to anything remotely related in opposition.

Bad thing is, I know a player character that is named Corona from a long time ago… It must suck to be in her shoes right now.

I bet you think Spanish Flu, German Measles, Lyme Disease, Ebola and all the like are racist too huh? It’s the China Virus because it’s from China. The people here are so sensitive.

So, we go to extremes to justify your position? Hardly worth my time refuting. Humor in history has always been dark. We usually dismiss tragedies through laughter. The other end of the spectrum is panic or depression. If you wish to be a bigot in the name of your opinion, then please do so. Just be prepared to be a pariah among your peers.

People are locked up. They need a way to vent the frustration. Humor is the least harmful way to do it.

I agree 100% at some point the trolls need to be put in their place. rick rolled now thats funny but trolling about things that are life and death…

For claiming you are “not even remotely upset”, you’re throwing insults rather quickly and in a defensive fashion as well. Again, I apologize for upsetting you by saying “sometimes you’re right” instead of “you’re always right”.
You’ll have to deal with the fact that only your family will feel obligation to support you in everything you say.

Why be unhappy about something that never was?

fads come and go. 10 years ago it was trendy to see ‘qt’ at the end of toon’s names, and these days i don’t see any more of it. the characters i have with qt in their name are either on my starter account or were deleted from my subscribed accounts

No that’s stupid.

What I am saying that it has long been established that free speech doesn’t exist in WoW and “humor” about a pandemic is not that different that existing name violations

Corona means crown in spanish, it’s absolutely 100% been used in the past as a name in some capacity. And it isn’t meaning the darn virus.

I swear native english speakers give no thought into how other cultures work sometimes.

Pretty sure people told jokes during the black plaque era too. Humor is a coping mechanism. I prefer the word of God myself, but I understand the basic need to squelch the fear.

How does this relate to my countering your previous statement of “everyone should just deal with whatever I say or do.”? This is just hyperbole that doesn’t counter my statement.
If someone is offended by someone cracking a joke about 9/11, obviously the jokester is simply trying to be humorous. At the same time, if the person offended calls it out, the jokester isn’t able to go “its just a joke bro.”.
Same for clown pranks and the like. Seemingly innocuous things to you and me may be highly offensive to others.
Does it mandate a name change?
That depends on the situation. Things are contextually based. So there never is a situation where we can say “always” or “never”.

There’s two ways to make a name like this, pretty much. I personally would do neither but people will be people, so . . .

Go with something genuinely comedic, make fun of the fact you’re homebound, I can’t call people out but a couple guys in my guild got a few that not only didn’t offend me, it actually brought some needed levity to see it.

Then there are the people who simply put it in their name with zero comedic context. Those people need to try harder if gallows humor is their intention.

Like society, some people have a dry sense of humor. I know when I was in high school, I was the only one who got my jokes. We are on a different wavelength than others and that’s fine.

That’s the point, it’s stupid. Expecting Covid or the like to be banned because people get in their feelings is ridiculous.

Can add West Nile Virus and Zika to the list. And yes, people use humor to cope. People seem to forget “Ring around the rosies, pocket full of posies, ashes ashes we all fall down” and that’s quite dark and about the plague.

It is largely dependent on who it was being to and the circumstances. It is liek Voxplaga said it really depends.
For example, I made a joke in the past with another employee about if we were to get in a physical altercation. I joked. They joked. The supervisor with us was joking and we all laughed.
All seems good right?

Nope.
Got reported to management.
Apparently the employee I was joking with was offended, even though they participated and never made a statement about being offended. The entire matter got thrown out thankfully, but I do know of cases where they ruled in the favor of the offensive party.

You are right, it does set a bad precedent, and often it depends on how much managements feels they can get away with it. Depending where you live and your occupation, sometimes its very little, sometimes its a lot. I’ve seen both aspects while doing research.

I don’t believe it was either, I am sure it was intended simply as a joke and nothing more. On the other hand, making a joke during a time like this is…well…risky.

If you can somehow make this racist, then Blizzard will trip all over themselves using the ban hammer.

I think banning a name that has been around for ages because it’s currently a hot topic is like banning Plague Inc because it’s tangentially a hot topic.
