Throwing my hat into the mix as a victim of char transfer leading to loss of pet battle progress. My sharptalon hatchling quest progress which was on the last step has been reset to level the pet to 25. I had to re-acquire the pet battles from the trainer as well. I also had on both ally and horde toons popup quests for warfronts and islands.
Ticket from GM twice now. They can’t restore my pet collection back to 1500 because they don’t know which character got the achievement originally back in 2017. When I log in the achievement “Battle on the Broken Isles” just says that it’s been completed by me (4/2017) and available to all my characters. Although, importing my character from wowhead seems to indicate that my druid is the one that completed it (and also the one with the ticket open).
Anyways, the GM can only fix the battle limit and is unable to restore any other account-wide progress that has been reset/wiped.
I’ll stick with my original plan. My sub is cancelled now. I’ll check in at Shadowlands release to see if they have fixed and restored the progress. It’s a real disappointment to see all my progress wiped clean and GM unable to even restore the pet limit. It appears the GMs that I have gotten aren’t able to see achievements on my account or any other indicators of my progress.
I also let them know I thought it was wrong to continue taking real money for character services when Blizzard has been made aware of the account-wide progress reset/wipe that is happening to some players while no fix is available.
I am having the same issue with all of the sudden I am getting the quests to open up the warfronts and even had my main’s war campaign who was at 27/27 all of the sudden say 16/27. This all happened after i faction changed a toon ( who wasn’t my main)
I am having this issue as well when Pre-Patch hit. I logged in and my pet tab was locked and the starter quests were reset. My pocket portal is not recognized either, I’m at 1266pets and it won’t let me add anymore. I also did 2 character transfers recently when the sale hit as well as a faction change. This is very frustrating cause I really want to catch the halloween ghost pets around my garrison, but can’t catch anything at the moment.

In the meantime, please try to reset your UI and delete all add-ons and keep an eye on our forums where other players are discussing the same issue and should there be a fix our team will communicate it there too.

I got replacement pet portals, which was good.
The response also stated that some of our other issues (mechagon mins, battle pet quests resetting, etc.) haven’t been identified as problems in a way that’s been communicated to the GMs. It was suggested that I file a bug report in game for each individual problem, and I think that’s what we all should do.
I think it’s entirely likely that many people who’ve bought character transfers haven’t noticed the number of things that have gone wrong for them, or think that the problem begins and ends with reset pet battles.
I submitted a bug report and a ticket (the ticket was unhelpful though, seems like the GM had no idea what I was talking about and just thought there was a quest I didn’t understand). My issue post-transfer is having all my pet battle quests reset. So even though I have all the Legion hatchling quest mounts in my mount collection, I can redo the hatchling quest chains. My pet battle dungeon quests are reset as if I’d never started doing pet battle dungeons, even though I have the achievement for doing all of the pet battle dungeon challenge modes and all the pets in my journal. I also have the issue of not being able to add any more pets.
This related thread from a couple days ago compiles some issues. Here’s that plus some stuff from this thread. These issues seem to be a combination of patch 9.0.1 and character services, particularly transfers, and the issues affect all characters on an account.
- Collection upgrade missing (pet cap increase)
- Ability to pet battle (have to do starter quest or purchase training to battle, but some accounts are unable to progress the starter quest)
- Pet battle dungeon quest reset which results in no ports to the dungeons
- Minion of Mayhem title missing
- Lost progress on Riddler’s Mind-worm
- Lost progress on Uuna (a completed Uuna seems to have retained her cosmetic changes like the wand, flower crown, etc.)
- Island expeditions quests reset
- Warfront intro quests reset
- Rescue MOTHER from Uldir reset
- Azeroth Minis collection removed/reset to 0
- Legion hatchling quests reset (Snowfeather, Sharptalon, Bloodgazer, Direbeak)
I’ve also been affected by many of these issues after transferring characters. I was able to unlock pet battles again by paying my 8 silver at the trainer, but haven’t attempted to have a GM restore capacity yet. I anticipate that the devs will implement a comprehensive fix so we aren’t all piecemeal filing tickets as we uncover issues. Thanks for helping to forward these issues to the devs!
ETA: there are still issues, as indicated downthread. I unlocked pet battles prior to this post, then transferred another character and lost pet battle training on my account for a second time. I assume that would have impacted any of the other documented issues if I’d had a GM fix them.
There’s a Blizzard post on a related thread that says that character services should no longer be causing this to happen. So that’s progress.
May I get a link to the Blizzard post regarding character services no longer causing this to happen?
I’m not sure what else has reset, Mechagon Mini toy being wiped even though I have the achievement for collecting them all and Minion of Mayhem title removed are just two things I’ve known that were also affected. Hate to think of what else which was account wide was removed that we haven’t noticed yet.
Which I guess means that they understand that character services -were- causing this to happen.
Yikes, as a big pet collector/battler I’m really glad I got wind of these issues before buying a character transfer. I wanted to move an old alt over to my current main realm while the sale was going on, but I didn’t want to risk messing with all this stuff.
If it’s been confirmed fixed that’s a huge relief. Going to wait a few more days to make sure there aren’t more reports before I go ahead.

To try and resolve this problem I initially renamed the WTF, Cache and Interface directories and restarted wow by exiting Wow and the Battlenet screen. That made no difference. I then renamed the World Of Warcraft folder and completely reinstalled the game. This did not fix the problem. I tried accessing the Pet Journal from

Before I jump into it, I wanted to apologize for you running into this issue as I know that issues of this nature can be frustrating. We more than most understand how disheartening it can be when you are working hard to get something and a bug gets in the way of achieving your goal.
However, while we understand your issues more than most, we here at Customer Support are not in a place to make changes or fix bugs in the game, that is something only the Development and Quality Assurance teams can do. While we would love to be able to fix issues of this nature, the only thing we can attempt is some raw troubleshooting and if it does not work, forward these findings to the Dev and QA teams to be investigated and hopefully resolved. As much as I wish we could intervene on issues relating to mechanics or events such as this we simply cannot and I sincerely apologize for that.
However, I do understand where you are coming from on this and I will get this forwarded up for you again. Hopefully this can be looked into quickly and fix implemented soon but in the mean time we recommend that you keep an eye on the Forums for a response on the issue or for a hotfix to be pushed as well.

A little late to this thread, but also finding these bugs after using a character service a few days after pre-patch. I was able to fix the not being able to battle by ignoring Audrey’s quest and just training pet battles, that worked. Going to wait and see if there are any fixes in the maintenance before submitting a ticket about the missing pet capacity upgrades.
edit: well… I’m able to find random pvp battles, didn’t try wild pet battles.

It sounds like everyone should avoid transfers for the time being, since while they can replace the pet portals, the rest of the stuff is still a mystery.

Definitely still bugged, I just did another character transfer and same result. On the plus side, I’m almost done with my list of transfers…yay? Nevermind the $18 I’ve given Blizz for each one…
One additional update, a GM restored my mechagon minis. Since those can be unlocked again via items, they can just send the items themselves.
For anyone that is not getting satisfaction from their tickets, don’t rail too hard on the GMs or CS. They’re probably in an entirely different state (or country) and haven’t gotten any more communication from the devs than we have, which is zero. Make sure to be clear in the ticket that you understand a GM cannot go into the game and fix bugs, and that you have already submitted a bug report. However, they can confirm that you are missing what you say you are missing (via achievements, etc), and they can restore the pet portals, minis, or any other items we find missing. I also provided specific links to the official support article regarding the pet limit, and the customer support thread (linked by Aldones a few posts back), both of which direct us to create tickets, and ultimately none of the GMs gave me any pushback whatsoever.
That said, it’s apparent GMs can not restore titles, grant quest completion, or presumably anything that requires some database update under the hood, so for now that stuff remains at the mercy of the devs. And while I have no doubt the they will fix this bug at some point, with the lack of communication and even miscommunications from CS, I’m definitely losing faith that we’ll see some resolution for those of us impacted after the fact, particularly if the devs see the GMs resending items as “band aid” enough. I’m still holding out hope, but given that possibility, please continue to give us all a heads up if anyone notices anything else missing, however minor it may seem, so we can pursue solutions via tickets if possible.
oof, going to hold off then, thanks for the new reports, I’m too nervous to try until we know it’s 100% fixed
shame I’ll probably miss the sale then, I don’t see of a way to purchase it in advance and sit on it without doing the transfer immediately
good thing i came across this. was about to transfer a couple of toons to a higher pop server…
i don’t know whether I should be surprised or not that this isn’t a priority to fix since the character services sale is going on.
Okay, I submitted a ticket about the collection capacity, will do a separate one for the mechagon minis afterward. This really makes me wonder what else we haven’t found yet that’s missing/gone.
