Paid Service Nonfunctional?

I’ve spent the past two days trying to confirm, via any channel (this forum, customer support forum, Fwoibles on twitter, ticket opened via in-game help function) if there will be a point in time when a player on Grobbulus can purchase a paid server transfer and utilize it to move to one of the virtual realms ‘hubbed’ on Pagle. Fwoibles initial blue post does not mention this, and simply indicates that the virtual realms will be locked, except for Free Character Migrations, for a specified period of time. That period of time has passed, but any attempt to utilize a paid transfer from Grobbulus to a virtual realm triggers an error message stating that the realm is not accepting character transfers at this time.

I had a transfer available on my account from a prior purchase, and tried each of the virtual realms, with the same result, but on trying Pagle, succeeded. As the error message only appears AFTER the ‘Are you sure? You can’t undo your realm selection after this point.’ warning, my character was successfully transferred to Pagle.

If our only option as players desiring to leave Grobbulus is Pagle, we will likely not be able to claim the same names as our current Grobbulus characters, which (per Fwoibles post-announcement-updates) seems to be something that Blizzard is trying to avoid doing to people. But, with the virtual servers not accepting even a PAID transfer from Grobbulus, that is the position we are stuck in.

I’m attempting to confirm, one way or another, whether this is intended (Grobb → Pagle ONLY, no virtual servers) or if its a bug or malfunction (with intended behavior being Grobb → Pagle/Galakras/Nazgrim/Lei Shen/Raden via paid transfer). The sale on services ends soon, and regardless of what the answer is, guilds need time to discuss it and work out feasibility, especially for those of us with many characters. Keeping us in the dark, or stonewalling the question, or even just putting it on the back burner is a disservice to those of us trying to understand a brand-new, never-before-seen solution implemented on the fly, and to figure out how to keep our playergroup together in response to it.

Please, if a concrete answer from Blizzard exists somewhere I’ve been unable to find, link me to it. Else, here’s hoping someone from the Blizz team can give an answer.

As of right now, there is no stance or information for this. It’s up to the Devs if, when and how realms will be unlocked for transfers.

If it’s not specified in the two Blue posts on the Classic forums, then there really isn’t anything that can be provided here. There are no Devs on this forum and they do not collect or provide responses from this forum specifically. And our SFAs are not the intermediaries.

[Edit] - Just linking these threads for my own easy reference to keep an eye on things.

Hi Leilleath - I appreciate the reply, and I (for what its worth) totally agree with you that this ISN’T the forum for this to be asked, and that the SFAs aren’t the folks with the answers. Unfortunately, my post got moved from the MoP Classic forum without my knowledge or consent by a “Harlsoco.”

So I’m not sure what else I can do, and how I can help my guildmates, and why its seemingly impossible to get a straightforward answer from twitter, the FAQ, or any person who IS in a position to know authoritatively.

I’m v/ sorry for the bother of this being in the wrong forum, and I’m unsure how to move it back - I don’t use the forums very often, sorry.

It’s not a bother! This forum is an infodesk, so you’re fine asking questions. It’s just that at this time there is no direct answer for you. The Devs are not the most talkative folks, they only pop in when they feel they should.

The only thing anyone can do is have patience and keep an eye out on the Blue posts for whenever information is shared and/or just keep trying to transfer. It may be a bug, it may be the realms are locked until the free migrations get moving easier.

If you’re worried about saving a name, roll a new character on the destination realm if you can and use it as a placeholder until your transfer can be processed. Then you just delete the placeholder once the transfer is complete before you log in with the transferred character.

So, the issues there:

  1. There is a limited-time services-discount running at the moment. Many of my guildmates are not financially well-off, and transferring 2, or 4-5, or even 10 characters is prohibitively expensive for them. My officers and I are open to helping with this, but obviously it’d be best to purchase, and gift, these services during the sale. The sale ends soon, which is why I’m been trying to get these answers for days now.

  2. Without knowing if this issue is intended, or a bug, or really anything about it at all, I can’t instruct my guildmates to make new characters on all the possible virtual realm destinations to hold their names. Its a big ask for 25-40 people, each with multiple characters, across 5 different realms they’d be making these alts on. EDIT: I also worry about them then running afoul of the ‘no name sniping’ policy Tom Ellis outlined in the FAQ, since the majority of those characters would be, by definition, characters holding names that aren’t going to be played or used.

  3. I also have a lot of confusion over why on earth a forum moderator would move my post from the MoP Classic Discussion forum, where discussions about my server seem like they should be, and where Tom Ellis posted all of the FAQs and details, to a forum that (as you’ve pointed out, and as I’m totally in agreement with) both does NOT have the answers to this issue, and is ALSO not frequented by the people who would have the answers, especially without my knowledge or any sort of discussion.

Would you be able to instruct me how to go about moving this post back to where it (by my understanding, and from what you’re telling me) belongs, so that there’s a chance of getting an answer from the powers that be in a time frame that DOESN’T turn my guild’s desire to stay together into a bill a few hundred dollars more expensive than it has to be?

If thats outside the scope of info that can be provided, I get and appreciate that - I’ve been in support roles before in my career, and I know often hands are tied, and I’ll just keep pressing buttons until I can figure out what works.

If you edited a post too much or other metrics, it may just need a moderator’s review to ensure you’re not a bot trying to spam the forum. That happens sometimes when a new character is posting on the forum. It’s just a safety feature until your trust level status increases. Or if it’s something that is already blasting on the forum with many open threads, they’ll delete or consolidate new threads to try and keep people focused on one or two rather than twenty loose threads.

As for all of the rest? It’s the nature of the beast, I’m afraid. The biggest focus is likely to be on the free character migrations to consolidate things. Not the paid transfers from a realm that isn’t part of that conversation, as in a sense, they can be done at any time.

When they did the last big consolidation, it was a cluster. They’ve apparently done better this go because I’ve not seen the major issues that plagued things last time - but even then it’s not perfect.

There just isn’t any way for us to know until the Devs get off their duff and address the issue. I haven’t found a support article focused on this round, which had been immensely helpful last time. Hopefully there will be one in the works or something will be said in one of the big threads about it.

I’m sorry there isn’t a better response for you and those wondering.

[Edit] - Annnd I’m a fail child. I’m sorry. You’re welcome to leave this here, or if you edit your original post above? Hit the pencil icon. It will give you a drop down of different forums you can move your post to.

I appreciate you, Leilleath, and want to thank you for at least hearing me out, since its more than I’ve managed via any other support channel or communication method I’ve tried.

I’m going to swap this back to the Classic MoP Discussion forum, but I’m grateful for the time and energy spent on this, and hope I wasn’t too much of a chore. Y’all do good work!

Not a chore at all! Like I said, I do sincerely hope you and others stuck in your similar position have an answer and resolution forthcoming. All the best to you!

I’m with you. Many of us are wondering the same thing. It would be good to have an answer along the lines of “Yes, this is forthcoming, stay patient” or even a “No, not happening” so those of us with characters stuck on Grobbulus can plan accordingly.

Really what the realm needs is free character moves in both directions so that those who want to purely WPVP can self-select, and those don’t can go off and do other fun things.

Coming up on a total of 5 days of trying to get an answer on whether or not a paid server transfer FROM Grobbulus TO any of the new virtual realms will be functional, or if it should be functional at the moment but isn’t, before the limited-time discount on server transfers ends.

EDIT: And, to top it off, as of ~3:45pm Eastern, 10/4/2025, any attempts I make to purchase a paid transfer for testing purposes, no matter what payment method, fails with an error. And the support page for that error is…singularly useless.

If they allow xfers off Grob the population will go into free fall and they won’t be able to keep up this illusion that a significant amount of people want or even care about balanced WPvP.

Whether they allow free transfers or not, this is a PAID transfer, that, per blizzards own support page for what a paid transfer can do, should NOT be limited.
