If the actual water in Vanilla had some transparency and the demo had it wrong, then by all means they should fix that. But the original water effects should be the only water effects in the game.
I just don’t see that at all. I can see the difference between “bright” and “dark” themes, but only in between zones not in between versions of the game. Like the difference between Elwynn and Duskwood. Or in BfA, the difference between Stormsong and Drustvar. And even then, I think current artists are doing an even better job of capturing gothic themes. Unique gothic buildings, tree models and textures, and more advanced lighting techniques are coming together nicely in zones like Nazmir, Drustvar, that one area of Val’sharah with the Gilneans and Black Rook Hold.
the art style has not really changed at all, just better graphics…wow never has had a realistic or dark look, just old and now new based on warcraft 3.
Classic wow was considered dated in 2004, but it had it’s artstyle that works and last over time, and it;s only improved with the new models. Many games claimed to be the wow killer simply because they were more realistic and look where they are at not.
Your argument that it’s a joke is that the Orc has a face that matches his silly dance? Do you actually take the first picture more seriously? It’s an orc doing an MC hammer dance with a static face.
People have different experiences, obviously. The people I played with all thought the game looked amazing. I look back and compare it to other mmos, and WoW looks SO much better. Light years beyond any other mmo back then. And so-called realistic or cutting-edge graphic games of the time today look pathetic. They don’t hold up at all. That’s the advantage with stylized graphics. They never get outdated.
But I will agree with those who say WoW’s style has changed over the years, and not for the better.
