Sure we disagree on a lot of stuff, but there is no need to constantly go after Mogar like that; he’s factually correct on his description that you so strongly criticize for what appears no good reason.

The ‘old’ setting reverted to effects that tried to mirror what existed in Vanilla. That means rippling waves. It also had an opaque surface, meaning you can’t see what’s below. The other modern settings for water were translucent, so you could see things underneath the surface. That was incredibly helpful in questing, and also has obvious pvp elements.

I’m not upset. I’m offering Blizzard feedback. And I hope they take it into consideration. The original water fits the world, fits the theme, fits the authenticity nature of Classic, and of course you don’t have to worry about the balance implications between choosing water you can see through vs. water you can’t see through.

So besides the subjective view that the updated water doesn’t look good, sound good, feel good or match the graphics around it. And the objective view that it’s not an authentic recreation of the Vanilla world. There’s also the fact that the new effects give an advantage. You’re able to see things beneath the surface that you can’t see with the old effects. Just some quick screenshots I took from the demo…

And those are just two quick examples. The implications for questing and pvp are obvious.

I’m “going after him” because he’s not slowing down his fictitious rhetoric, despite me posting plenty of video evidence from 2006 that most of the water in Vanilla was indeed mostly transparent, or translucent; whatever you want to call it.

I’ll post the Joana video of his leveling in Ratchet back in 2006, you can see the same water that Mogar showed was completely opaque on the low setting, in the Classic demo:

I’m not going after Mogar, I’m going after his false claims he continues to make. If he wants a change to the Vanilla water, he should just say so instead of pushing an unreality.
