I wouldn’t mind updated graphics. But whatever, even retail old world looks extremely outdated compared to today’s gaming standards. Whatever works for me.
You’ve said you’re fine with the Modern WoW shadows, you can’t apply this logic to the water without applying it to the shadows as well. That’s called a double standard my boy.
Except there is a demonstrable gameplay difference between the old water and the new water.
As well as the shadows. The blob shadows of old are limited to appearing beneath your character and the new dynamic shadows can appear from around corners.
That’s making some hot assumptions friendo, and you’re not going to check everyone’s chievos anyway.
Being fair, I’m not in favor of changing the shadows either. I say anything with a gameplay implication, no matter how insignificant it might seem, should be a hard no.
Yeah that’s fair and fine. I’m just calling out double standards and hypocrisy when I see it. People have accused me of stalking or personally going after Mogar, which is absurd. The fact is, he just posts a lot and he’s often posting hypocritical nonsense.
This is something I think will disappoint a few who are very adamant about getting newer graphics.
Even if Blizzard fully supported it you could have modern effects for lightning, water, etc.
However the models and textures of the old vanilla world have many areas that have not been updated since 2004. If Blizzard hasn’t updated them for modern WoW, there’s zero reason to think they’ll spend the incredible amount of time it would take to do it for Classic WoW.
So people would end up with new character models that are immediately covered up by low rez body paint armour.
That was the most nonsense I’ve seen on these forums in quite a while.
From what I’ve read, new models don’t work in vanilla. And obviously old graphics and old models need to be given priority.
I agree, if they can give players the option to use more updated graphics then that’s fine. But priority needs to be given to old graphics and old models and they need to work exactly as they did in vanilla. You cannot sacrifice anything vanilla for more modern graphical options.
There’s no reason to expect a toggle. Why would the devs give us the ability to toggle graphics from a different game? Where do people get that from? Honestly…I have no idea.
I was just playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on my NES Classic. At no time did I think…‘Why can’t I toggle Odyssey graphics!!’ Why would that occur to anyone? This is no different. You’re playing a game. You’re not playing a game with a different game’s skin on it. I’ll never understand it, I guess.
Super Mario all-stars was the 2nd best selling SNES cartridge of all time. It had remastered graphics for all the Mario games. People have always wanted better graphics.
Yeah, and you can go ahead and play BfA anytime you want. Aren’t options great?
No thanks, I’d rather play Classic with better graphics. The cool thing about options is just that, they’re options. I’ll play with the new water and the new shadows and it’ll be great. I just want a few more options to make the Classic experience a truly great one.
Hmm, ok. You want a few options. And that guy over there wants a few options. And Timmy wants a few more options. And, oh look, it’s no longer Classic.
Vanilla means Vanilla. And that philosophy is becoming more and more necessary.
The same could be said for people that want changes within the timeframe of Vanilla. It’s called discretion, and Blizzard will implement things based on their own. They made absolutely no mention of the water or shadows being one of those things they hadn’t got around to removing yet, so it looks probable that we’ll get those in the final release.
No, it couldn’t be said…because if it was in the Vanilla timeframe…that makes it part of Vanilla.
By the way, the devs absolutely said at Blizzcon they’re still working on the shaders.
Shaders =/= shadows.
They’re still working on the graphics is the point. We don’t know what their plans are for water, shadow, etc. We’ll find out. But the demo wasn’t a finished product. So I’ll continue to give my feedback.
Let’s hit your analogy from earlier.
Ask the Chef what happens when you have a finished recipe (1.12) and you go back and take things from previous iterations of that recipe (1.5 AV). Frankenpatching Classic together doesn’t create a completely authentic experience, yet no-changers are foolishly on-board with this principal.
Change the amount of flour in your Classic Pancake recipe and you end up with a Crêpe.
Nah they just want to hang onto the #nochange thing while really asking for changes.
