New Graphics or why Purist are Crazy

they basically already did that. they repainted the vanilla models, i do believe, so that they work in the modern engine. but they look nearly identical to their vanilla renditions.

if they could update them and keep their unique characteristics they likely wouldve done so in retail but adding all that detail potential just was too much temptation to completely reimagine their appearance. as an orc this probably isnt as noticeable or perhaps the transistion was more appealing, but the human females, for example, lost their personality, the gnome females look like demented voodoo dolls that run like toddlers, the male nelfs run like they have their buns clenched and in idling they sway back and forth like they are drunk or something. … it’s weird. hehe

They removed the old models in retail because both the old and new cannot co-exist and be toggled.

Yet people still ask for toggles.

That was because they added new animations that didn’t fit the old models. These new animations wont exist in Classic. Thus, a toggle could exist. But, I’d rather they just stuck with the old graphics, honestly.

notice in vanilla female nelfs ran like they were already partially in cat form. their arms and hands would swing forward and dig at the air like a cat pulls at the ground and they leaned forward into the run. it gave them the appearance of being part cat. thats gone in retail animations

Oh boy, Thanks for the info.

The new models are garbage… absolutely awful. I want my Night Elf Hunter to look like my Vanilla Hunter, not some horribly bland face I dont recognize.

And have you seen the travesty that is the new Gnome faces? Still gives me nightmares…

You mean the Chuckie dolls?

Precisely Watson…

they could, but the old animations would not work with the new models.

If you were going to cook authentic Mexican food is the responsibility of the cook book author to provide the chile’s

Why would it matter if it was all about the gameplay?

Which is exactly the reason most people use to justify there wants for new graphics or animations. “Its not about the graphics its about the gameplay so it might as well look pretty”
They do not realized that the very reasoning behind their justification is also the biggest defense against it.
If its all about the gameplay then why do upgraded graphics matter?

Yah. I imagine if they did go about it that way, when you toggled the HD models, you’d get HD animations. Old models would use old animations.
Part of me thinks that why we’ll probably only have the old models in the final release. People would be furious if we didn’t at least have an option for the old animations. And I’m thinking Blizzard will be too lazy to put in the toggle for a separate model with a separate animation set.

I’d rather not have classic delayed just so people can have modern animations.

i dont mind im just glad you can play classic wow again since bfa is worse then wod ever was.yes some people are to purist.even private servers have changes on them.

classic wow is already better then retail before launch…lmao.

Classic would actually be releasing sooner if they didn’t have to hire someone to go back and rebuild the old models and animations and instead just stuck with the modern set.

Obviously they need the old models and animations but one of the big arguments against the new models used to be “We don’t want Classic delayed to implement the new models!” It then turns out it’s actually going to take longer to release because they had to rebuild the old ones.

You can NOT be that blind. There is not a SINGLE valid point that you can make that a toggle button to new graphics would hurt vanilla experience. If you want old graphics, FINE. I played vanilla private servers and its OK, not at all bad. But the new graphics are cool and would be cool if people could use it, its already there.
The argument that “I would much rather spend the human resources bla bla bla” its stupid, take Elysium private server, it have not .1% of blizzard resources and its a 99% vanilla experience, wow classic is already there would not hurt NOTHING for blizzard to do so, they pretend that it will cost then and will be a hard work so they can charge you for game that you already bought. and thats ok also, but dont use this as a argument.

There’s absolutely no reason to expect graphics from a different game be put into Classic. Why would people expect such a thing? I can find no basis in logic.

“whitout my permission” dude are you out of your MIND? back in WoD there was a toggle button to people who did not have a good computer to be able to continue play the game. What the hell are you saying

I think the biggest issue with that would be the media shared about the game. Classic should have a distinct look. If there was a “modern” graphical option, that would conflict with every marketing material Bliz used for Classic, cause they would damn sure use the vanilla graphics.

I don’t think adding the option to flip would be a huge deal, but I think it’s even less of a benefit. If you’re one of the people trying to mold the Classic experience to your liking in any way, it’s probably not going to be for you.

I played the demo. And I’ve been playing BfA lately. It’s like playing a completely different game…becuase you ARE playing a completely different game. It should feel different, it should look different. At no moment should someone wonder which game they’re playing, or watching. If such an instance ever occurs I would call that a failing on the devs’ part. The games need to be as distinct, unique and separate as much as possible. And that includes the graphics. The more similar they become, the worse for both of them. They will only excel by offering radically different experiences, and a huge part of that experience is the look of the game.
