Marksman on the PTR - AMAZING CHANGE

Pet threat is pretty low this expansion for some reason, but MD and FD help out quite a bit in making sure stuff sticks to your pet.

if thereā€™s one thing I can count on blizzard for is that they donā€™t learn anything. They removed the Brutosaur only to add a $90 shop mount version that also drove up token sales and didnā€™t actually deplete any gold from the game. Have they been smart and wanted a true gold sink they wouldā€™ve put the mount on a vendor somewhere for 5 million gold and watched the gold flood out of the economy as people rushed to buy it. instead, we now have thousands more of these mounts and all of the gold still in the game just changing hands.

nods. Thats a valid and fair view. It would be better they made MM work with a pet as an option. Or heck rather than that eagle maybe its your chosen stable pet that comes to your aid?

The loss of choice to play the pet on the spec is the key issue and I hope blizzard does offer this in some way. This could just be a way to shake things up and try a new things but it is true as you and others who do not like the change say, its not really fair to completely remove the ability to have a pet out in the spec for those who want that.

I just wonder why they dont just balance the two or perhaps move damage around and just bring lone wolf into line with pet out. I think its just blizzards sneaky way of changing without admitting they suck at balancing things.

I agree like maybe they should have a spec where you can have two pets at the same time who can do all of your tanking for you and then you can give them weird names like Mickey and Minnie or Timon and Pumbaa

On the flip side, we lose pet tanking for rares and clutch dungeon saves as well as FD clearing debuffs in PvE in solo play.

The changes are a huge buff to PvP and group PvE thatā€™s for sure, but a nerf to solo PvE play and RP for those that enjoyed their companions.

At least it isnā€™t as bad as Survival going melee.

Because it isnā€™t just about balance. Itā€™s also about them wanting distinct differences between specs of a class. Especially pure dps classes. They decided mm should play without a pet just like they decided survival should be melee. Itā€™s not that complicated.

itā€™s also the same reason they took out combat rogue, and gave us outlaw with a pistol in our hand. When you have a pure DPS spec, the three of them tend to blend together almost seamlessly so itā€™s nice to have a little delineation in there somewhere.

Now imagine if they took away stealth from one of the Rogue specs. Or took away shapeshifting from one of the Druid specs. Or made one of the Mage classes a melee staff spec. There comes a point where making it ā€œdifferentā€ for the sake of being different doesnā€™t make it better or fit into the overall class fantasy.

that would actually provide the same level of delineation and then people could decide if they wanted to continue playing that spec or not. I mean, they took pets away from frost mages and somehow people still play, frost mages. they are taking pets away from marksman Hunter, and somehow people are still gonna play marksman Hunter.

I hope Blizzard finds a solution for the tanking problem, though personally Iā€™ve been doing solo things petless since WoD as a challenge. I just love the feel. Granted, itā€™s not the same as having a pet out tanking hits for you. Hopefully Blizzard may at least restore that functionality in a way that works with the new kit.

Call me crazy, but I love melee Survival. I find hunter nowadays to be one of the more varied classes since you can have 3 completely different fantasies with their own strengths in it. Itā€™s the only DPS-only class that I find joy in changing specs depending on the situation or when I feel tired of playing the same thing for too long.

Yeah, well, challenges are ok, but since hunters have almost no self-healing, some of those are impossible without pet tanking (too much ranged damage, too strong melee hits etc).

I donā€™t mind for it is, but it should have been a 4th spec.
Killing a play style in favor of another is never a good move.

while I respect your opinion, I also respectfully disagree. Fourth specs are terrible and it sucks that it happened to Druid. Feral play style was a lot more fun when you could just flip back-and-forth between bear and cat. but after 15 years of playing a druid, Iā€™m used to it.

How would Blizz make a 4th spec unique if the main difference is having a Pet or Not.

Just so everyone knows, Iā€™ve created a thread that received SO MUCH MORE FEEDBACK from the community that was AGAINST this little 59 level DKā€™s opinion.

Go check it out.

Iā€™m sure they could come up with something if they took their time instead of trying to cram in a bunch of changes in the middle of an expansion.

This would also be acceptable, Iā€™ve seen the idea mentioned a lot. It may not be a constant traveling companionā€¦ but itā€™d be a nice half-way of sorts. Also itā€™d be pretty fair considering mages have that with their elemental; not entirely gone, but not always there until needed, if wanted. nod

Yeah. Not sure why choice needs to suffer so much a lot of the time, options arenā€™t always bad. I get that maybe the way they are currently are ā€œbadā€, but thatā€™s the thing; they can be changed and fixed. Instead of removing choices, change them so that we still have choice while also not holding things back?

If this is what they call the sneaky way, then uhā€¦ I donā€™t really know. Iā€™d fear seeing what would normally be the sneaky way? Maybe? shrug

My head hurts.

Self promote a huge thread that still had no impact and is allowing blizzard to continue with their plans to introduce this new spec. Also way to self promote in somebody elseā€™s thread. Shows what kind of person you are.

I would legit be down with any of these if they were viable.

Its not rly, the specs are already damn different enough, they wanted to cater to M+ players complaining they were ā€œforcedā€ to summon the pet for lust, then dismiss it.

This lame excuse of thematic and fantasy is just that, half-backed excuse to justify the change and not stay too obvious why they are changing.

So much anger from people that donā€™t even play Hunter
