M+ and mythic

There are groups of 3-5 players killing raid bosses in classic. You try to do that in retail Normal NYA and tell me how it goes.

I see no downside whatsoever in the current difficulty ratings. Caters to each kind of player, and there’s a lot in each category. Players may move between categories as their tastes / desires change and that’s perfectly okay.

Reasons to play LFR:

  • hate raiding, and just there for the transmog model
  • Just want to see/experience the raid/story
  • New players
  • Want a place to practice basic raid mechanics not really seen in other parts of the game: taunt swaps for tanks, healing assignments, single-target rotations, etc.

Normal:

  • Entry level complexity, not entirely faceroll. Friends and family difficulty
  • Generally speaking, no preparation needed (pots, tables, etc.)
  • Quicker way to gear up at the very beginning of the tier (better than mythic 0)

Heroic:

  • equivalent to mythic 10 in difficulty/rewards
  • Generally speaking, some skill/preparation needed or is greatly beneficial while the content is fresh or newer
  • average players might start out only comfortable in normal, but will move to heroic by the end of the tier

Mythic:

  • the real deal
  • groups of skilled + dedicated players compete for cutting edge/hall of fame

We could get by with just normal/mythic, but why? Different tiers for different needs.

One other thing that hasn’t come up, is that for those who hate mythic +, the normal/heroic/mythic progression tiers make it possible to gear up without ever stepping into a Mythic + dungeon or PvP. Personally I like both mythics and raiding, so it isn’t an issue for me.

How is hating raiding a reason to play LFR? Also, LFR transmogs are not the same as the higher tier transmogs.

They’re the same as normal/heroic with different colors.

Only Mythic and 2400+ pvp sets have different looks.

The same but different. Agreed.

That’s a bit pedantic, if you’re not worried about color you can get the same thing from LFR

Yeah, no. M+ is far superior to anything Vanilla.

How is hating raiding a reason to play LFR? Also, LFR transmogs are not the same as the higher tier transmogs.

The idea is, LFR is mostly faceroll. A lot of people get anxiety for having to perform in raids. Personally, that’s part of the challenge for me, but for others it’s a showstopper and causes resentment.

For transmog, I know the skins are different, that’s why I said model. Outside of raids, the only other way to get the model is PvP: if raiding gives you anxiety, PvP almost certainly will.

But the reality is:

Once again, that whole thing is meme, I’ve killed LFR n’zoth many times, it’s not hard

It’s just that people can’t press a single button every minute.

Absolutely agree, which is why I said mostly. It’s not anything difficult for a half-organized group, but being half-organized shouldn’t be the assumption for LFR.

I think LFR N’Zoth was way overtuned and should have been easier, considering the purpose of LFR.

Is it REALLY too much to ask people to press a button every minute though?

I agree, it’s not a big ask. In their “defense” I would say it’s a button that doesn’t appear elsewhere in the game, and laughable as it may seem, it is probably asking too much to need to learn something new in an LFR raid.

My larger point - LFR is not really raiding, it’s a guided theme park type experience. People do LFR because they don’t want to do basic mechanics, they just want to blow stuff up and see the loot drop. And that’s fine - that’s why we have the other difficulties.

Except it does though, the extra action button has been a thing since at least cata. If this was Ultraxion all over again I’d accept that argument.

And pretty regularly, by far the ugliest of the lineup… not only do they have fewer effects and details, but usually poopy colors too. At least for me, it’s extremely unusual to have any desire to collect LFR mogs.

Among other things, Heroic is for players who don’t have the patience for raiding guilds, add on maintenance, or annoying people on voice, but who still want interesting content.

It is also likely the most played difficulty level.

Every time I do Raid Finder there are half a dozen people who earn the achievement, which means they’ve never been there before. I think a lot of people cycle through each wing of Raid Finder once to see it. I’d believe that 70% of players do Raid Finder, but I bet the total number of boss kills is higher in Heroic and perhaps Normal.

Considering I’m only Heroic Nyalotha geared and I can solo tank half the Normal Nyalotha bosses, I doubt it would be tough for good Mythic raiders to 5 man it, and maybe 3 man it.

Eh, to be fair, the first “hard mode” was Ulduar. And I’d say that the additional hard mode mechanics were added on top of the normal mode. Not the other way around. Then they solidified norm/heroic afterwards cause they didn’t think they could figure out how to make new and interesting triggers for hard mode.

But yes you’re correct concerning LFR and Flex (now normal).

And WoW has grown. There are now differing difficulties on dungeons and raids and that’s great.

I was there in Classic last December. And my toon there never dies becoz I have feign death. People there thought that I was showing off when the raid group in UBRS wiped on General Drakkisath except me… as I kited and slowly killed this Boss. I am a just a Casual player but I am an M+15 player. Bosses and mobs have a hard time killing me on M+15. Mobs on Normal difficulty would NEVER EVER GONNA KILL ME. I played Classic to realize that Retail is way way better.

Yet they manage to do the achievements for each boss that really could have been hard mode triggers in a lot of cases lol
