after playing classic again i’ve come to what I believe is one of the cruxes of what I like more about classic. Classic, while having it’s fair share of difficulty isn’t convoluted by the different levels of dungeons and raids that retail has gone down over the years. Classic has one dungeon, one raid. And they can be very challenging. retail has normal hardmode m+ it’s just so convoluted… get rid of all these extra modes and go back to how it used to be.
Biggest challenge is staying awake.
try bwl, with a decently geared 60. see how well you do.
Classic raids aren’t challenging, BWL has been cleared in under 20 mins. The average trash pack in M+ has more mechanics than most bosses in Classic.
Understandable but not everyone has the time to spend hours on finding people to group up with to do one dungeon. It’s an inevitability that comes with changing lifestyles and technological progress over the years so it’s not worth griping over why retail is so much worse. Both game types deliver, just to different customer segments.
Try without all the world Buff…
Since you dont enjoy it you figure others who do enjoy it shouldnt get to play it either… you were a noflyer too weren’t you?
I mean, good for you that you enjoy classic. Tones hard in text, but I really am not sarcastic when I say that, I genuinely mean it.
But lets not pretend that Classic has anything anywhere near as difficult as what Retail has.
And personally, that’s what I enjoy about retail. Even when the rest of the expansion sucks, putting dozens, if not hundreds of pulls into a boss and finally seeing it fall is a feeling that nothing in classic can really match.
The multiple difficulties are the price we pay to ensure that everyone has content that’s at an enjoyable level for them, from the absolute lowest skill level, to the absolute highest level.
Once you understand that 2 is greater than 1, you’ve pretty much untangled the “convoluted” levels of M+.
It was difficult for it’s time, if they had made it any more difficult back then the raids would have had even less of a clear rate. Naxx had far less of a clear rate than mythic raids now and that is the reason they made multiple difficulties, not because raids were too easy. I agree that multiple difficulties is good though, it means the lower skilled players aren’t stuck in 1-2 raids the whole expansion while only the good players clear the current raid.
What happens when you get so good at M+ that you run out of fingers and toes.
13mins after dinging 60 I was in a ZG pug. I took a chance and asked for an invite.
Then I saw that each boss kill was like 1minute AoE spam burn festival. I barely understood what I did during the fight, the boss just got deleted. Then MC and I noticed how easy the fight are even compared to some LFR bosses.
A boss fight should last 6-10minutes, you should have time to feel your rotation and a few different combat phases.
The scaling in difficulty and mechanic addition in retail is really what makes it better in raiding. It’s like old school game, when you play on easy, normal, hard, ULTRAGODMODE.
Personally it took me a while to figure this one out. After about 3 weeks of thinking I had a stroke of genius - went to Staples and bought a chalk board. Now I can put a tally on the board every time I go up a key level and go back and count them whenever I want.
As for the 3 different difficulties of raid, I’m still struggling to figure out which one is which unfortunately
The trick I have is by standing in fire.
If it doesn’t kill you, it’s LFR.
If it doesn’t kill you, but the healer yells at you, it’s normal.
If it does kill you and you get booted from the group, it’s heroic.
If it does kill you and you get yelled at on Discord, it’s Mythic.
Good trick!! I will try that next time I go into the raid.
Oh boy…
Hardest part about classic is staying awake people give ffxiv crap about it’s slow battle system but it’s light years ahead of classic
Happy to help.
People are clearing classic raids in a half hour.
There is nothing challenging about them.
World First is basically decided by who gets the whole raid in the portal first.
