Lag/Jittering with every quest hand-in/Level up

So have I been unknowingly hurting my PC for the past week because of this issue? Came back from a long hiatus and have been having this issue ever since I resubscribed and never had this issue prior.

You’ve not been hurting your PC as a whole. The issues is excess writes. Which does reduce the lifespan of SSDs / HDDs. The Tooltip.log in particular writes a lot of information.

So does the hotfix still work?

Some wear and tear on HDD, more worrying for solid state with limited number of read/write cycles. Hopefully a blue can get some kind of update, this is really getting ridiculous.

Just make sure to launch via the retail folder and have the bnet launcher shut. It will undo the read-only fix every time you open it.

Exactly.

Yes. You can do this manually, or use a script which I posted earlier. Lag/Jittering with every quest hand-in/Level up - #692 by Hýbris-turalyon

Thank you both for being so helpful and quick to respond! Also, I’m not incredibly tech saavy, how do i know if my ssd has limited writes? Sorry if its a stupid question.

All SSDs have a limited set of write cycles. Varies by brand. The average is about 500 cycles. Which means it lasts about 4 to 6 years. If subjected to heavy write cycles, the life is shortened. I have an SSD with about 88% life left based on the SMART reading. I have just under 100 writes.

And how would I go about checking how many writes my SSD has left?

Third party tools as Windows built in tool is generic, Good or Bad.

Bloody hell, I was wondering what was causing this. Ended up thinking my HD is dying, or my gfx is dying… A tiny file, wow.

Thank you folks. The unofficial hotfix seems to have done the trick.

Please Blizzard we need a real fix for this. I’ve had this issue since last year. I’m running the game with no Add ons at all and I’m playing on a decent PC and it’s constantly lagging when I get quests or return them. I don’t even have the game set on max (got it on 7). It’s time to look into this. This thread seems very old.

Hopefully tomorrow maintenance will fix it…but i doubt it…haish…really annoying though…

No I’m not confused, I said I was experiencing the same thing. PLUS a latency issue that was separate.

I don’t know if this helps anyone for me at least the work around was removing elvui. I don’t have any jitter or anything as i did before.

This is happening to me as well, 2 second lag on every quest turn in since 8.2.5 launched.

Happening here as well. It’s getting kind of tiring.

I’ve come here every day for two weeks. I’m losing hope, WoW just isn’t fun with the workaround. I feel like nobody cares about me as a customer and I’m just forcing my way back in for nothing.

If this isn’t fixed very soon, I might quit.

I do use Elvui and the workaround did not remove it.

Whatever the maintenance did, it it did not address this.

Back to the workaround we go.
