I think the launcher is on a 30-second timer for that. Try again.
Sigh… what happened to that really active blue we had here?
I tried to warn him. Blizzard cans overactive CMs.
So I tried the game on an internal SSD and a external Samsung T5(over USB 3.1) on both SSDs the game doesn’t completely freeze but it still stutters for a second when doing quests/rares/etc.
Blizzard should probably update the minimum system requirements to an SSD if they don’t plan on fixing this as the experience on HDD is nearly unplayable.
YO, BLIZZARD!
Almost two weeks and the same issue remains? What gives? Do you genuinely don’t care because of Blizzcon or are we just not important at all?
Fix this!
Just re-upped my Sub after a long break and this lag spike on quest turn, rares, and chests has been redonkulous! I had no idea it was this big of an issue until I checked this thread. I thought my hard drive was going out or something!
@ Deram
I found when I launch the Launcher, then modify permissions on Hotfix.log the settings stayed until the next time I launched the Launcher.
Also, this problem seems similar to a problem people were having last year in October after a major update. Hotfix.log & DBCache.bin would grow each time between realm swaps and each time the profession menus were opened. The file would grow so large that the game would eventually hang when these actions were done.

Just came back to the game after a long break, thought i was the only one with this issue. Kinda disheartening to see how old this thread is and that the issue is still persisting, hopefully it gets patched soon.
With such an old game that is so over-loaded with systems I’m sure it takes them longer to fix issues, but it’s still frustrating.
I think most people are mad that they have to wait TWO WEEKS (at least) just to play again, though. That’s just ridiculous.
I have a question for the people in this thread, and for the Blue who had been going back and forth with us if he returns. Could this be related to party sync?
I ain’t no technical wiz, but I was thinking about it earlier. Blizzard is all about spaghetti coding (this isn’t me being insulting). Party sync is the one thing I can think of where suddenly every quest is once again available to influence the players in some way shape or form. Much like the WoW voice options. Is it possible party sync busted something?
I do not use party sync so not sure how that would cause me to have the issues???
So, the reason I’m thinking it is because Party Sync might be functioning like Voice Proxy does. If your voice proxy is activated (which is always is), even though you do not use it, the channel / “dam” so to speak is open for usage because its a form of channel to allow coding to go through.
While you might not use party sync directly, it existing has opened up the possibilities so to speak that you can repeat every single quest in the game. See where I’m going? It makes sense why turning in quests and opening chests (things which give experience in a similar manner of coding) might be screwing it up.
I have this issue. I have an M.2 SSD and also a SATA SSD.
None of these suggested fixes actually fix it. I had previously suggested an HPET issue - this modification did not help.
In addition, the freezing the game is doing will freeze all activity on the PC. This one isn’t a slouch… with a Ryzen 3600.
No stuttering prior to 8.2.5 - we came back to the game with all new hardware after not playing for nearly 6 years. We’ve dealt with all the DDOS downtime and this … which is really sad to see for a 15 year old game.
played with some settings. Guess what fixed this?
I disabled the SATA controller in my bios; my testing ‘idea’ was that my M.2 would pick up and work exclusively on the PCI-E side.
I dunno what effects that had but I can still access everything… without the issue of stuttering
I have been away from this thread for a few days. I am sad to see no response from Blizzard. You guys have really dropped the ball. I am ashamed of you.
Experiencing the same thing, and home + world lag in excess of 1k … it was fine earlier today.
same issue here still for the last week too so annoying
This isn’t the type of lag this thread is talking about. You’re a little confused. The issue in this thread is when handing in quests, earning an achievement or leveling up, there is a momentary hang/stutter/jitter with frames. As if the game freezes for a second. What you’re having is network latency issues. These two are separate.
That makes no sense.
“A SATA controller (serial ATA controller ) is a hardware interface that connects a hard drive to a computer’s motherboard and manages or directs the flow of data”
If you disable that, then your SATA connected devices stop working. If your SSD is M.2/NVMe, then it’s a PCI device. It has no relation to SATA devices. They are two different forms of hardware communication and bear no relation. They communicate through different methods.

You are messing around with BIOS settings correct? Do so with caution man, if you do not know what something does it could mess up your computer system. I only mess around with settings I know 100% about. Honestly I am not sure how this would help in anyway, but ill keep a open mind if you want to explain.
It doesn’t. Internal Storage devices communicate through SATA or PCI. Both are completely separate communication methods. The fact that this person decided to mess with BIOS settings for a software bug in a game tells you this person doesn’t really know what they are doing. BIOS is a no go if you don’t know what options do. All they did was disable storage devices that are connected to the SATA ports on the motherboard. PCI SSD will function regardless if the SATA connections are enabled or disabled.
No offense to this person. But they should enable that setting and leave BIOS alone. There’s no need to go poking with already volatile settings. Motherboard manufactures warn people of this already. Don’t flash an update or change settings if everything is working fine.
