"it's not cheating or an exploit, it's a clever use of game mechanics which Blizz tolerates and actually encourages"

They said the MC bug was present in real Vanilla as well so it cant be layering for that one unless Blizzard is flat out lying in the blue post in this thread.

TBH i dont understand how this could have been in Vanilla, as this seem to be a cut and dry layering exploit.

Side note for the curious: that was a completely separate bug that has existed since 2004, and actually happened several times back then, it just wasn’t being broadcast to thousands of viewers at the time.

—right from the blue post.

hey i got a friend that wants to be able to do a second run of MC this week. they arent streamers though but this shouldnt cause any concern. should i just tell him to send lore an email and him to reset it for them its only fairly everybody get to run it twice right?

just watching the video shows this is exactly what layering does and is not a “bug” from 2004.

Layer hopping is just, playing the game. It’s no different than using a flight path or the auction house.

Forcing bosses to repeatedly spawn is an obvious abuse of the system and harmful exploit.

Im quoting the blue post in this thread bro

Just link that post to everyone that is foaming at the mouth and move on. Fewer and fewer people these days have the tolerance to tolerate things that assault their sense of self.

Layer hoping is exploiting the game system to farm. It just happens to be farming for mats and non-bosses but its absolutely an exploit

And there you have it, Streamers abusing layering openly on stream will go unpunished. GG, all credibility out the window.

I am aware of esfands situation but this looks like a giant copout for the rest of the streamers. They can simpley says “It did not look like they intended to abuse layering”.

The guild on Fae that Ven and cdew are in have a specific requirement for you to stay in the guild. You MUST participate in the LayeringHHH channel and help everyone jump layers whenever they request it.

ON STREAM ABUSE OF LAYERING. No punishment.

You’re going to sit here and tell me that Esfand reported the “weird glitch” (Layering issues) and then continued on getting the gear. Because he reported it they get to keep all the loot from said issue???

Third paragraph from the bottom.

Id probably just revert every character in their account back to fresh level 1 instead of perma ban.

No. No, it’s not.

I have personally talked to GM’s about this specifically.

one time like esfand I don’t worry,

More about folk farming rare drops / boe’s and flooding the AH / inflating the economy out of proportion to avg players who haven’t even entered say MC yet.

I know I"M a slow leveler, but I enjoy the journey.

a few extra pieces of gear weeks before I’ll even think about doing it isn’t going to harm me. perhaps some of those folk will have the instances I want to run nearly on farm and invite me along and I"ll get an upgrade or something nice that otherwise I"d have to never get or wait much longer.

LORE & CO are right it is intent and judgement call often.

Yes actually, I’m calling blizzard out on this.

We weren’t completely devoid of a community in Vanilla like Lore is saying. We used irc and my server ‘Blackrock-US’ had a extremely popular IRC channel with all the top guilds.

How can a bug that has happened (as I know confirmed cases already at 4) in 2 weeks existed yet I’ve never - ever heard of it happening in Vanilla?

Here is how **CASCADING INSTANCES WORKED - NOT THE SAME THING ** - Old post from 2006.

Guild A is a 200+ member guild that frequently kills off MC.

Guild B is a small guild, @90 players, but can only field @20 people per raid.

Guild A offers Guild B a chance to kill the first 2 bosses in MC - Guild A will fill the raid out and add /recruit 15 other people and supply 5 “knowledgable” escorts to get it done.

After the 2 bosses are done {Luci/Madg} group leadership is passed to one of the 5 Guild A members - and 35 people disband. At this point the group raid is reformed with 35 new Guild A members to continue offering more chances at the last bosses/loot for Guild A member.

Cascaded instances do not save you to them because they are expired yet they still have loot tables.

No no not me. I read the blue post today and fully understand and accept that it was an old vanilla bug. Just saying that if you see other’s being irrational, just link them the post and they’ll shut up.

then how is it not? Because switching layers to ignore spawn rates and farm orbs/leather/patterns/chest is an exploit.

And i called the president, he told me it is

Well then the blue post is a lie? Sorry, I don’t believe that for a second.

Both are “just playing the game” if you boil right down to it. That’s why it’s called an exploit and not a hack. I’ve only encountered a speed hacker once (in a BG), but plenty of chinese gold farmers fly hacking or whatever. Those are hacks via third party programs allowing them to do that.

Exploits is the short-hand way of saying taking advantage of something unintended through game mechanics. IE: Wall hopping, door strategies, layer abuse for dungeon bosses, etc. At the end of the day Blizzard determines what to do with them, but abusing the layering system to get extra resources (exp or otherwise) should most definitely be considered an exploit as well.

And confirmed that they get to keep the loot, “because they reported it”… LOL

That’s not true and you know it.

Stop being so pathetic.
