Is Something Being Done About the False Flaggers of These Forums?

Since I seem to have a much better understanding of the CoC than OP, I doubt it.

Iā€™m not really sure that it matters as to what led him here, thereā€™s a clear cut issue that has been here since the implementation of this new forum. This isnā€™t a random complaint, this has been a widespread issue for many posters.

Forgive me but didnā€™t you imply that OP could be reported?

I report any thread that opens up with a link to a streamer video as spam, because itā€™s advertising. And I know Iā€™m not the only one.

If people want to talk about an issue, they should talk about it. But spamming this forum to drive up streamer views is definitely getting flagged by me.

His original example was of him posting song lyrics in a thread, which would fall under extraneous posts for trolling. So, yes.

Iā€™m not saying that I did report him, or that I would. But reporting something like that would fall under the correct use of a flag, and suggesting that someone be punished for it and calling it a ā€œfalse flagā€ (which is starting to feel like a random buzzword at this point) is disingenuous.

Seriously, itā€™s a misuse of community toxicity, if Blizzard continues like this itā€™s going to have to give names to whoever flagged you.

Heā€™s claiming itā€™s not because people were flagging him. Heā€™s been proven wrong. :woman_shrugging:

Anyway this thread has been made many times and the mods still arenā€™t doing anything about the issue, so. They either donā€™t care or they donā€™t have the time to go around punishing everyone that abuses flagging, presumably because thereā€™s a lot of them. And I found out the other day that it now only takes 3 flags to hide a post where it used to be 10, so they made that easier for some reason.

I rarely flag posts but boy to I use that Mute thread function alot.

This would work wonders too. Personal responsibility would probably be better than punishment, tbh. People hate personal responsibility.

Itā€™s also worth mentioning that ā€œhidingā€ a post is the only thing that the community can do - any other action requires a moderator to look into the situation. And ā€œhidingā€ a post honestly does more to emphasize it than anything elseā€¦ everyone is going to click on it, obviously, to see what the controversy is.

Except they can and already do just log into alts to flag people, so nobody will know who their main poster is.

Fair, I didnā€™t see the previous edit.

I think you hit the nail exactly on the head, OP.

The false flaggers should be cancelled. I tried making a post of my own about this, but it was 404ā€™d.

Blizzard likes people doing their work for them, i.e. flagging posts, they arenā€™t going to do something that stops that from happening.

Yeah they pretty much guaranteed this system is here to stay after they laid off a bunch of CMs and mods.

Blizzard posted this a while back on flagging abuse and how they handle it:

Which solidifies the need for punishment for abuse of the system.

It should be pretty easy when a mod restores a flagged post to track all users who originally flagged it and give them some kind of strike. 3 strikes and flagging is disabled for x days. Tier the punishment or something for repeat outs.

I think we just need to go back to posting per account, and not per character. Leaves too much room for trolling and other offenses.

Iā€™d agree with this but it wonā€™t happen as long as Blizzard uses discourse forum software.
