There’s no transfer in so you’ll have to reroll, but you can transfer out for free if it’s not your jam. The server is extremely low pop so you’ll have to farm your own stuff and coordinate trades with your guildmates to get what you need, but you don’t have to worry too much about bots/farmers. Definitely not for everybody, but I see a lot of folks talking about the community driven monetization of the game so I figured I’d let folks know there are other options.
Also… /cast Summon Jarl
*EDIT: Jarl has accepted the summon and has responded with more details for those looking for it…
You deserve a bump. Grobbulus, huh? Rp realms don’t even use connected realms. I appreciate your guy’s efforts to try and get more players there. It’s too bad Blizz disabled paid transfers…and gave that ridiculous excuse about not wanting players to waste money or whatever. They could just, you know, make all transfers free with a cooldown.
But anyway, if my sub wasn’t expiring next week I might have checked it out. Maybe if I return I will. Forget about my posting persona…I promise in-game I’m actually really nice.
For whatever it’s worth, playing on Grob saved the game for me. I came over about a year ago. Prior to that I was playing on the Mankrik cluster and was just getting bummed out at the way the game was being played and what I’d have to do in order to fit in with the scene. On Grob, I can just play the game to get what I need, then listen to a bunch of grumpy old dudes (which includes me) complain for 6-7 hours a week while we kill content
Your reasons for unsubbing are certainly you own and I respect that, but I wanted to leave that there. Had I not found Grob I probably would have gone the same route. Either way, all the best to you!!
I’ve been bouncing around on Era a bit. I too tried the Mankrik cluster, and for my tastes…still a bit too many people.
I found a nice home on the Atiesh cluster. Little smaller, but still plenty of people to get everything done. And the big horde guild is very helpful. Give bags, gold. Always doing dungeon runs and raids.
Now I’m thinking about that thread Severus made about concerns that Blizz will make Era just 1 or 2 Megaservers. What a betrayal that would be. That’s literally a “I’m deleting my battle.net account and never touching a Blizzard game again” levels of betrayal.
I would certainly share that disappointment and eventual outcome, but maybe not the outrage haha. I think I’ve just become a bit jaded with respect to Blizzard’s outlook on Era that some of the passion has gone out of me.
So I’m just going to do my best to appreciate what I have while I have it
Oh, I’m beyond jaded. My memory goes back to buying Blizzard games in the 90s. And to remember that company and compare it to this company is just sad.
I suspect Jarl is busy because he usually jumps in with a more comprehensive info dump haha. Even the great Jarl has other responsibilities!
On Horde side, the main guild is called Requiem. They have some nice folks but are currently struggling to find their footing with regards to raiding. They definitely could use more folks to be sure! There’s also a leveling guild that was started by some Legacy members (the Alliance guild). There’s quite a few folks working on Horde characters. I think they have intentions on some grouping to pursue pre-bis and some casual raiding as well, but it’s early days there.
Overall though, while they are fewer in number and a bit less organized, there is a Horde presence on the server and some pretty cool people over there. Special shoutout to Skater, our commander-in-chief of the IF Haunt Brigade, ensuring that Alliance doesn’t get too complacent in that city
Haha I too spent a good amount of time on early Blizzard games. I agree with you, but that’s also a very typical trajectory of companies who find success. It’s tough to be about the players when shareholders enter the picture. I don’t envy any passionate, player-centric dev on the Era team. I’d imagine it would be an extremely challenging environment to work in.
/cast shameless plug. Gonna be lazy today and just paste two recent posts which I think capture it all well.
We’d love to have anyone, new or old, interested in playing Vanilla wow in the most pure way I can think of. It’s not the normal experience and if you want tons of players you have tons of other options. However for people dissatisfied with the status quo, looking for a forever vanilla wow home, one that is not tainted by meta chasing hype and gdkp monetization, and just want to play the game for the sake of fun and community… Grobbulus era is a great place to play. Don’t just take my word for it. Check out the post below for other players testimonies, and for more details and logistics.

I should have a horde oriented post coming sometime in the near future. Tubbly hit it on the head with the horde synopsis for now though
