I’ve played private servers for years. This was a huge problem on all of them. Some private servers had 95% Horde : 5% Alliance ratio. Sometimes they’d offer Alliance 5x leveling speeds or double reputation etc to incentivize people to play Alliance, but it was never effective. People want Horde PvP racials and people want Blood Elves. There was never an incentive that was sufficient to force people Alliance. Ultimately, most Private Servers just allowed Horde vs. Horde battlegrounds, which I think is the wrong approach. If these people all wanted to play Horde so badly, they can sit in their 4 hour queues. This was obvious to everyone with a brain months ago - so don’t try and weasel out of it and go “Well, I wouldn’t have switched Horde if I knew!”.
I have been pretty busy in-game these last few weeks so I can’t paste this post in all of the predictable threads like I’d like to. Feel free to link it in my stead.
The most amusing thing is that the Wrath private servers do not have this problem. Every Man For Himself is an absolutely disgusting racial that allows humans to equip two throughput trinkets instead of using an actual PvP trinket. And with such wildly powerful PvE trinkets that grant huge amounts of armor penetration or attack power (Grim Toll off of Heigen is absolutely unreal in S5 and Deathbringer’s Will is another gross trinket in S8) EMFH rapidly becomes unrivaled. All the try-hards switch back for the human meta and the droves of lemmings followers / viewers will obediently swap back Alliance, too.
But until then, this was / is an obvious problem and I adamantly eschew any mechanical fix for it. Rerollers have made their bed, let them lie in it. And before you argue this isn’t due to faction-swapping rerollers, I’d posit that queue times were never this bad in Classic for the Horde. And the currently 45-50min queues are the tip of this iceberg. Literal 2-4 hour queues are incoming.

You can’t expect the community to come together and do a mass reroll or w/e that would be like herding cats.
This issue was pointed out months in advance blizzard dropped the ball on acting. It’s sad when a few dudes in a basement running a private server are able to figure out solutions that a billion dollar company can’t.
If you want faster queue times, go alliance. You can’t have all the advantages as horde.

yea this is the modern blizzard who cant or wont fix bugs in a 14 year old game for months on end, willfully ignores the THOUSANDS of obvious bots running around, and constantly lays off employees despite record profits.

Because blizzard essentially added faction swap through boosts, they caused this problem to get even worse.
They must address it. This isnt entirely a community issue this has been made worse by what blizzard did.
If you had to totally reroll at level 1-70 to swap factions, less people would have left the alliance.
Blizzard owes us some kind of change to undo the greediness that drove them to add boosts.

This is a problem horde created, now horde wants blizard to add mercenary mode are further bastardise the game just to fix the problem they caused?
yeah no, enjoy your long queue times idiot, you knew damn well what you were getting into when you rolled horde with every other idiot that needed to roll horde simply because they believed it had better racials or because horde is “the pvp faction”.

And this crappy idea that merc mode should be added to compensate for you idiots is laughable, enjoy sitting in queue for 2 hours idiot.

Poster was 100% right. We are now having to camp instance entrance zones to get any meaningful progress. This isnt enjoyable for anyone. We have to wait an hour to get a queue, get steamrolled by a premade in EotS and win an AV and then wait another hour grinding lowbies and pve players. Most of my guild has given up on pvp its so terrible. I would argue this isnt just a community problem but a structural one that Blizzard did address and the system wasnt designed or intended to function this badly. Merc mode or some larger cross server groups would be really welcomed.

No sympathy for the carebear faction. Why should the horde help you guys out? We dont want merc mode. What we want is for blizzard to finally come out and show numbers and finally admit alliance just arent queuen up for bgs. Something that most people who have played alliance can notice simply by not being blind.
Since bgs are xrealm… someone posted overall numbers being 46% alliance, 54% horde. That shouldnt amount to the hour long queues we currently have. Alliance do not need any incentives to queue up. Give us HvH bgs and move alliance to pve servers where they belong.
And thus it goes.
Faction pride created through different experiences in the same game.
You don’t see this in Retail - and that’s because nobody has a major downside to their faction.

Imagine all of this going away because of short sighted players demanding they be catered to.
It will happen, eventually, even with Classic - but not this expansion.

who is short sighted? We’re asking how to help the pve faction. It’s not just a horde problem. There is more there then that… alliance just have far to little pvp community.
Arenas are a 60/40 split.
Pretty close to what servers have across both PvP and PvE.
Almost seems like a lot of people who bought boosts did it horde side, then spent their pre patch honor on R14 gear.

Only Blizzard knows. I wouldn’t hold my breath on them making the only significant grind in an expansion where all of the content is front loaded easier on you.

I’ve been asking for blizzard to release numbers since day one. I dont care for third party stuff. Overall numbers aren’t as bad as people think.
