This is also happening to me. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
This is happening to me as well, mega frustrating :(.
I hadn’t noticed it until today, but it seemed like every other glacial spike wasn’t able to be fired. Even my husband noticed it. Thank Thrall I had him there to pull the mobs half the time because my spell wouldn’t work. I know the refund is part of the traits so yanno yay there, but not getting it to fire is mega frustrating. Glad to know that I am not the only with the problem. Honestly thought that it was bartender or something.
This new glacial spike bug is throwing off the rotation.
Blizzard needs to fix this already. I reported this crap on the ptr back in October when GS had like 3 different bugs affecting it.
Too bad they don’t use the ptr to actually test anything anymore…
i found a temporary workaround - replace lucid dreams essence with the new breath of the dying rank 2. it simmed higher than lucid, and glacial works properly.
update: looks like they’ve fixed it. https://www.wowhead.com/news=310401/patch-8-3-hotfixes-for-jan-29th-hunter-pet-tame-updates-including-lalathin
Heart of Azeroth
- Corrected an issue with Memory of Lucid Dreams that caused Frost Mages’ icicle buff counter and visual display to sometimes not match up when using its on-use effect.
Maybe not… logged in and played some, yes I got a “failed to cast” GS when my UI (via TMW) said I had 5 icicles up. Going to try swapping out Lucid with Breath… AND I just ran a sim and Lucid simmed better than rank 2 Breath… BUT I’m not 100% sure that the sim took the extra 10 corruption resistance into account… asked the dev.
Haven’t seen the extra GS for 5 days or so, believe they stealth fixed that issue.
For the record use a Weak Aura for Icicles, probably why never saw the bug w/Lucid Dreams minor.
This seems to be one of those situations where observation over many days may be necessary. I did some content with Lucid Dreams minor enabled and STILL had issues where a GS did NOT launch when it should have. THINK I saw an extra one as well, but it MAY have been the first one I cast didn’t really go fully off. I swapped out Dreams for my rank 2 Breath and did some Normal raid boss last night. My impression is that fewer GS’s got “stuck” where I had to spam it’s keybind than I had gotten used to with Lucid, kinda indicating the hotfix didn’t really address what I am complaining about.
The DPS difference isn’t that tremendously great (think it was around 100 dps) so wearing either one is not that much of a big deal, so I can swap them out… going to spend time with Lucid to get a feel for it next.
It still isn’t working correctly.
Spamming AI before a pull last night I “procced” lucid three times. I visibly had 3 icicles behind me when the pull started, but 0 stacks of the icicles buff.
It took 5 bolts before glacial spike became available.
So… no, still not fixed.
Hm.
Think I’m going to retool my frost off-spec from Glacial Spike to Frozen Orb build.
Was googling about this and found this interesting bugfix regarding GS:
Glacial Spike is no longer enabled without the required number of icicles after using an instant-cast Flurry.
I wonder if when they went to fix this they broke the visual cue. It’s not a matter of the icicles running out. I can go from having no icicles over my head to five, only to have the buff show three or four.
I did this for last weeks raid, and it’s the best decision I have made for the Mage this expansion.
Not entirely sure how the damage stacks up against GS (I suspect it’s insignificant with sub-orange parses) but damn is it infinitely better to play.
Dropped as much Mastery as I could, picked up a lot more Haste and running the IF-SI-RoF talents it just feels so damn smooth and so much more interactive. With Blizzard being part of our ST rotation, RoF, more Orbs and using procs as they happen I feel like I’m actually doing something and not just sitting there waiting for BF to proc.
I wish they would fix lucid, they think it is only cosmetic but It is much more than that, anytime you get an icicle over head, the verse proc and no stack it really screws with you on things. Here’s to hoping it is fixed before shadowlands…
P.s. I can get it to proc from blinking, barrier, invis, eating… Along with just about any other non offensive spell… Slow fall… It displays an icicle, the verse proc is active but it is not applying the stack for the total of 5 to fire GS. Sorry ranting it is really aggravating! If video or photo is required I can provide that as well.
I’m just mad that the glacial spike/lucid dreams issue is STILL broken. I mean, I put in a bug report for this issue during the PTR back in like, October? Whenever the PTR first came out. And another one in the live game about a week after 8.3 launched. But here we are, with the typical blizzard silence… Maybe I’ll switch to arcane for the memes
Bump, still not fixed.
I get the impression that Blizzard doesn’t care much about mages.
I haven’t tried this tier, but late last tier I swapped in the arcane spec Azerite trait that gives 2 charges of Evocation, plus a small buff after you evocate.
What surprised me was that the trait was flat out broken. It gave the small buff, but did NOT give an extra stack of Evocation.
There’s an active bug report in the bug report forum, sadly blizzard will not come here looking for broken things.
I have the same problem. It doesn’t cast on the first try I have to hit the button twice and it drives me bonkers. Love when it crits for huge damage though.
A small work around I think I have found is switching Lucid out for something else, and replacing it back as you log in. Haven’t really seen how fairs after a few loading screens yet. Updates Pending.
