Hello. I was browsing reddit and saw a screenshot saying that he was suspended for advertising Enchanting in Trade channel in classic fresh WoW. I am confused about this.
Does Enchanting fall under Trade channel or Services channel?

Does Enchanting fall under Trade channel or Services channel?
The difference is, are you selling an object, or a service?
You can use Trade to sell enchanted vellums (objects) but not enchanting-while-you-wait through the trade interface* or profession orders, which are services and go in the Services channel.
*Is this still a thing? Long ago, before vellums, that’s how you got a soulbound item enchanted.
I’m referring to classic fresh.
So you can’t advertise. “300 - Enchanting, Fiery Weapon, Crusader. Free. Tips appreciated.” In trade chat?
Does Classic Fresh even have a Services channel?
The last time I looked at how the rules would apply, this wasn’t the case, but Classic Fresh is newer than that.
If the Trade Services channel exists, you would use that for interactive enchanting activities, because that’s a service, not an object, which is what the Trade channel is about.
It would fit into Trade if one is hawking their services, but it would fall under the same ToS as chat does, including spam.
As you aren’t the poster of the Reddit thread, it would be between them and Blizzard.
I would say, though, that take things you see and hear with a grain, maybe two, of salt. Clickbait is sadly not uncommon across such media.
I thought Services channel is meant for selling Services. Such as Boosting, Pvp boosting, summoning etc.
While Trade channel is meant for profession related? Transmutes, Enchants, Making bags.
So just to clarify selling Large brilliant shards, Greater Eternal Essences is allowed. But not Enchanting peoples gear isn’t?
Is there an article about this?
It doesn’t break it down as finely as you say, but here’s the article.
Shards are an object. Enchanting through the trade window is a service. That’s the distinction that matters. The policy doesn’t say anything about professions.
Try what you like and take the “L” and the lesson when you’re reported and your account is suspended.
Professions are safe in the Trade channel.
This article is the introduction to the new advertising policy.
If anyone is getting actioned in the Trade channel for selling anything related to professions, it would either be due to their frequency of messages (spam), or some verbiage is inappropriate for the game.
If I were to guess (and that’s all it would be), and if the redditor was giving the complete story, getting suspended for advertising in trade would be due to a couple factors. One, the account user has had chat violations in the past. Two, they were likely reported for spamming, and the GM agreed.
This is all speculation, but that’s my theory.
None of the classic servers have a trade services channel. That is only available for retail at the moment.
Yes, you can use the trade for that. Just don’t spam it so fast or so often. Give it time in between each message.
Individuals and guilds selling items and profession services for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade chat channel.
In the article it says above. It literally states “profession services for gold” is allowed in the “Trade Chat Channel”.
But what you are telling me that enchanting through the trade window belongs in the “Trade Services Channel”.
Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel.
I am very confused.
Thanks for clarifying.
As I said, if Services doesn’t exist in your preferred game, obviously you use good ol’ Trade like was done for years and years before the split.
Whatever raised the initial issue as reported on Reddit, it wasn’t failing to use a non-existent chat channel. If they got actioned for some chat issue, it wasn’t that. (Quite possibly spamming, which is always just an issue with failing to understand your community’s tolerances.)
This is wrong. Classic Fresh has a Services Channel. But you have to manually unlock it via chat window.

The first rule of the internet is not to believe everything you see on the internet
Adverting professions in the Trade chat is great! What a person can’t do is SPAM them. Spam means advertising it so often that people on the realm are sick of seeing it and report it. Enough reports and it gets escalated to GM review. If they agree the person is being spammy, they may apply a social penalty to the account.
Duration of the penalty is based on the past history of the WoW licence.
Severe infractions can, of course, jump to the higher penalties if needed. Those infractions never drop off so something 3 years ago is still on the account and used when determining new penalty duration.
If I were to guess (and that’s all it would be), and if the redditor was giving the complete story, getting suspended for advertising in trade would be due to a couple factors. One, the account user has had chat violations in the past. Two, they were likely reported for spamming, and the GM agreed.
That is my guess as well.
Yes, he was silenced.
This is what the ticket said.
"To clarify, you were advertising services in the chat channels where that is not allowed. While you may advertise for such services, you may ONLY do so in the Trade Services chat channel, nowhere else. Please take a moment to carefully review more details on the page below
The poster also said “once every 5-10 minutes”
Nothing in that Reddit post confirms that it’s about plugging his Enchanting. He even states in his appeal that he’s only speculating, and the GM did not elaborate any further than “advertising services”. Comments already encouraged him to re-open tickets and appeals if he was telling an accurate story.
We still see to this day (though it has been a while) that people have been silenced or otherwise actioned for posting about filling a keystone group or wanting to sell spots for raids, among others.
The Wowhead article linked above is Blizzard’s official stance, professions still belong in the original Trade channel. But they are still subject to rules governing message frequency or inappropriate verbiage.
Yes, that’s what I thought. Profession related belongs in the Trade Channel.
However, someone did state in this forum that Enchanting someone’s gear is a “Service”. “Enchanting through the trade window is a service”
Just to confirm do you think he is wrong? Because I am second guessing.
Just to confirm do you think he is wrong?
I do not believe them to be genuine, no. Particularly regarding their comment about gaslighting. That particular narrative is a tale as old as time around these parts.
Apologize for not making it clear. It is the 7th post in this forum I made. Where Sniperorc says
[Shards are an object. Enchanting through the trade window is a service. That’s the distinction that matters. The policy doesn’t say anything about professions.

Yes, he was silenced.
Ok, so first offense on the license. Also, all Social infractions fall under the category of “Abuse of the Chat system” so “Abusive chat” is a catch all term for any misuse of the chat systems, not specific to someone using language to harm another player.
Either the player was not just advertising Enchanting, or the GM used the wrong template.
One of the two is true, but as players here none of us can see which. Blizzard Blues will not discuss account actions with others. Only the account holder can contact them about it.
If the Account holder feels there was an error, they should certainly appeal! They can appeal up until Blizzard tells them no more appeals on that specific account action will be taken.

That quote you used he does not have a screenshot of, just a quote in text. Unless I have not found the screenshot yet.
