Because theres no real fun rewards there. Its mediocre gear at best
Unfortunately this is an effect of the community and their outcry. Blizzard made the game how the community wanted. No “grind” or “chase” and you lose people.
There is no reason for any hardcore, casual, or in-between player to enter the cavern. Where as before they gave a reason for all player types to enter, and that’s player power not in the form of only gear.
The players inability to say “I don’t NEED to do this, I WANT to do this” when Blizzard introduces a grind caused them to introduce no new form of content that makes the players of that mentality “feel forced.” It’s a tragic tale because if Blizzard introduces power, players “can” say no when those forms of power are minor, but instead they want Blizzard to just not have it in the game. It’s extremely selfish and harms long-term health when there’s imply no reason to login other than for a pet.
Um, ESO, GW2, Lotro, Runescape, BDO, FF14 all doing very well. Guild Wars 2 actually is gaining players. You WoW only players are just plain sad. Get out of your bubble.
You do understand that there is a flip side to that statement right? If you are enjoying playing an expansion, then maybe consider the possibility that the expansion is good?
Just judging by the steam charts (I know its not the only way to play GW2) they have only had a .03% increase in the last month bringing them to 2,889 concurrent players, and that’s after 2 months of losing players.
BDO is actually doing better on steam with an average of 15634 concurrent players…
ESO just came out with a patch this month and they are barely holding steady at 15,324
Fundamentally there isn’t much wrong with Dragonflight. I didn’t play much of it either.
The game has suffered for more than a decade from a few key problems and some unique to DF.
Very boring class design. Almost inexcusable. Of all the classes I usually play nothing really appeals to me. People have asked for years for new stuff like bard, tinkerer, etc but we get evoker which as far as I can tell is a straight up caster with some unique lore about it.
Dragons are actually not as interesting as Demons, Orcs and Old Gods.
World design is ramping but still stuck in the mindset that the world has to be less important than instancing.
At least a handful of people I know didn’t touch DF because they hated the PVP gearing template system.
Unrelatable character arcs / the Mary Sue affect.
So you can see a very significant part of the hatred for retail relates back to design patterns that have dominated the game for about 10 years. Under all the problems is a good game.
Dude, you’re using steamcharts!!! You’re clueless. The bulk of the players in Gw2, ESO, BDO don’t use steam to play. Anyone that actually plays those games knows this. This is what I’m talking about you Wow only players, you live in an echo chamber.
Edit: I think it is utterly hilarious that you tried to use Steamcharts. I’m still laughing on the ground atm.
This patch is terrible for openworld solo players. DF is overall very unsupportive still towards ppl who solo and have limited time.
Basically all there is to do is the lackluster weeklies and a little bit of pvp. They are deleting the best BG the azerite shore one. And they hand hold ppl who do absolutely nothing except M+ 8 hrs daily.
Zaralack and Forbidden elites are silly amounts of hp and untouchable.
If you don’t group regularly you Basically will be stuck with legacy content unless you’re a tank and then it’s extremely tedious.
I still have fun, but I struggle through the storyline. I could barely get through the first two zones and now I am hitting a wall through Azure. SL has had profound damage on the game. They keep bringing previous characters back, that it’s no longer special when they appear.
Most content is like this, which is why there is always on going tuning, but point is there was content to do that was 100% optional at a point and it kept people engaged, there is nothing like that in DF, and with ZC needing groups to do just about anything, it’s just not worth your average player to stick around.
I agree.
I really enjoyed BFA, on the Alliance side the “witch” storyline really vibed with me and I played through it many times.
And on the Horde side, while not as enjoyable due to horrible capital city design and a meh storyline until late in the expansion, I really loved the Zandalari King and his daughter story and I’m still annoyed that he died, he was amazing and really projected a sense of royalty, he would have made a grand Warchief.
More likely that it’s just psychology. There are a lot of people in this game that used to love playing it, it was their favorite thing to do. And now it’s almost coming on two decades and they still want to love that thing they used to love but cannot accept that they have changed and don’t like it as much for several possible factors. Even I am subject to this, I still like the game but not nearly as much as I used to.
I just meant extracurricular content transmogs. In shadylands I spent like a year doing ember court for a single tint because I liked the cloth set. I don’t feel compelled by cosmetic rewards from casual content this expansion.
I am getting a bit of MoP vibes. Could be wrong though but….it’s feeling like DF started out with boredom and terrible reviews but is starting to get much more interesting.
