Question to people that use custom sounds. I hate the hunter sounds gun shots sound like a cross between a pop gun and electric staple gun. So I replace them with proper gun sounds I use ar 15 bolt cycle sounds and .308 gun shot sounds. but thats not important. My question is today nothing is working and I am back to the craptastic game sounds Did blizz break something change spell names what did they do does anyone know?
they did something to the files to make it harder to datamine stuff i think, there was a better explanation out there.
In the UI forums a blue responded they were looking into it as replacing the sounds is something that they have always let us do.

… if I have to deal with my Balance and Resto druid sounds without the old ones I replaced them with, I will throw things.

Years of not dealing with these sound effects and now I feel like my ears are being assaulted. There’s sound that I do like in this game, but having to hear my dragon puke everytime I summon it makes me nauseous.
The datamining “arms race” excuse is an awful reason to break something that has functioned just fine for years. You’re not going to win unless you truly encrypt everything.

Honestly I’m surprised so many people feel strongly enough about specific sounds to mod the game to “fix” it. Interesting.

It’s been nice because there has been an option for a very long time to “fix” the sound effects. To have the option suddenly removed and all this stuff coming back is very jarring.

I’m never going to be able to play my worgen hunter again if I have to listen to her strangled-parrot “rawk!” every time I hit a pet ability.

i use casc viewer and literally unpack the game down to its bits. Were there is a will there is a way. Blizz will not be able to stop us from unpacking the game and tearing it to shreds figuring out how to fix the bad stuff we dont like

It’s going to be fun translating the apparently randomized stuff in the casc files to the (in my case) 7634 files.

My paladin had a segment of a song that would play when I used wings on her.
And my rogue had one that said “Guess it was just my imagination” anytime I used vanish.
I set these up in WoD and they brought me much joy!
Wonder if that’ll still work or if they’ve done a poof too?

if this was the function of an addon like Weakauras, this will still work.
It was not. It was just a macro is all.
I assume it’ll still work but I’m curious to get home and test it.
weakauras is a round about way u can get some fun stuff back for things like bubble wings ect u just need to set it up to play the sound when the ability is used
oh god this means I have to hear Elsas annoying talking during raid no more 1970 porno dialogue

Well, if I can’t shut off that stupid annoying moaning error noise, or that stupid annoying moonkin frenzy sound, then I guess I have no reason to play anymore. Thanks a lot, Blizz.

Logged on today, mounted onto my Hippogryph. SCREECH!!
Tried the Creepy Crate pet. Constant slobbering and grunting.

One way they can fix this: Keep the sound folder for substitute sounds, but instead of making us search for them, add a command: /sound(x)
Lists the last X sounds played (10 default)
Next to each filename are three buttons, PLAY, EDIT, MUTE
PLAY lets you hear each one to confirm it’s what you want to change.
EDIT places a copy of the sound file in the sound folder so you can change or re-use it.
MUTE places a silent copy of the file in the folder.
PLAY still plays the original sound, even if it’s been muted in-game, in case you want to find one and restore it by deleting it’s replacement.
Not coming back until this is fixed.

8.1 had over 100K sound files. It was hard enough finding them when they had descriptive names and paths. Have fun finding them now. (Assuming files in the sound folder are still used as replacements, even with the new names.

Some of us actually like guns that go BANG rather than the airsoft sounding pellet gun sounds of today. I use the vanilla sounds myself. Horrible change is horrible.
Funny enough, with some of the new ray gun designs with 8.2, blaster sounds could be even more relevant… lol
