Elite Dangerous. It is like an MMO that takes place in space, with the map being a 1:1 scale of the entire Milky Way Galaxy.

Today is the day I learned there was apparently a Horizon (Zero Dawn/Forbidden West) MMO in the works. Today is also the day I learned that the Horizon MMO was cancelled.
Out of a slate of 17 (!!) GAAS titles launched by Jim Ryan before his retirement, Iām disappointed by this cancellation the most. An MMO in that universe would have been a nice change of scenery and I feel could have worked the best. Particularly since the Horizon multiplayer game is still on the table (think like TLOU Factions).
While I empathize with the reception and ultimately the resolution of the recent release of Concord, it really needed to happen to strike home that GAAS is not something the players want, nor is it a viable long-term business plan for Playstation.

It probably didnāt help that the Horizon series has a pretty hefty hardware requirement for playability. An MMO with those requirements would lock out a huge swath of players, making it much less likely to be financially successful. For better or worse, WoWās aging graphics renderer, even with the various improvements over the years, makes WoW one of, if not the most widely accessible of all MMOs out there. And WoW has the gameplay that makes up for the lack of photorealism in something like the Horizon franchise.
Originally, WOW was playable on a dial-up connection.

Between my DKās Path of Frost and my Shamanās Water Walking, Iām not sure how many times Iāve done this to myself. I remember doing the old ZulāGurub raid, jumping down to the water, then popping Path of Frost before I hit the water. Oops.
Yeah, I know. The double-edged sword of PC gaming. The largest market to drop a game for, but also the most inconsistent in terms of hardware. Optimization is a helluva gambit.

I play now using my phone as a hotspot. It is not supported or recommended, but works pretty well. Although Iām sure there is a minimum bandwidth required, and itās probably more than dialup now, latency matters more. Mine is usually around 70 ms. Maybe it wouldnāt be good enough if I were pushing high keys or serious PvP, but Iām not.
Now downloading the whole game, thatās a different matter. I canāt remember if I first downloaded the PC version at a previous residence where I had cable, or if I used the network at the community college I attended for a bit, but I have never downloaded the whole thing over hotspot. Just updates. When I got my new laptop at the beginning of Dragonflight, I started to try to download a new copy of the game, then realized it would be literally 5-10x faster to go back to the store and buy a bigger USB stick and copy it from the old laptop that way, so I did and it was. I think it was projecting 18 hours to download, took a couple to copy.

For living in the north east, Iām really not a fan of dealing with the stuff. Itās pretty, but a pain in the rump to clean and drive in.

We had some overnight here. Luckily just snow. The trees are not happy when we get icy rain so I hope it stays snow.

I bet all the kids are thrilled. Such fun memories for them. Snow is the best, as long as nobody has to adult in it (shovel and/or drive).
So odd seeing parts of Louisiana with more than 10 inches of snow and seeing snow in FL!

I usually play paladin so I canāt do this to myself with class skills, but I have the water walking mount thingy, so if I jump while mountedā¦ Oops.

Nice! Still no snow on the ground here at all which is bad. And temperatures are on the plus-side now. No snow expected for the foreseeable future now too.
