Well, I was right about ice being a bigger issue where I live than snow. Fortunately there’s enough sleety snow over the ground ice to walk safely (relatively speaking, better than plain ice). But I’m currently sitting in my car waiting for it to warm up because it’s got a layer of ice on it that I can hardly chip through. I can’t even open the doors on the driver’s side. It’s 45 minutes until I’m supposed to be at work. They will probably not count tardies today, but someone else called out that I’m the only other one that can do their job, which has a timer on it, so I hope it melts off soon!
Drive safely!
Ages ago, I worked in an arcade that was in an outbuilding at one of the local shopping malls (one of my all-time favorite gigs, too!). It’s an easy half an hour drive on a good day. We got a bunch of ice overnight. I was scheduled to open. I was smart and left early, knowing it was going to be bad - everything’s closed (the list of things that were open was shorter). I get there, get started with the opening tasks, when the boss calls - if the mall’s closed, we’re closed. Sigh Shut everything down, drive home, enjoy my day off.
Edit: Just looked at the radar - man, the south is getting walloped. The area where I used to live in Missouri is getting 6-10 inches of snow/sleet, and then the temps bottom out (colder than here in Michigan, actually).
The Grunch pet is going for 1600g on my server. Quite a few sellers though. So I’m not confident that my extra will sell.
I’ll buy yours Merdrah, if you want to COD it to me on Cenarion Circle.
I am horribly late getting to the thread today! That is ok. Sunday is for Brunch anyway.
/* Sets out the hot coffee, hot water for tea, cocoa, and various cold juices and beverages. Adds a milk frother! For extra foamy fun we can now make frothed milk to add on top of the coffee or cocoa. Sets out large dishes for brunch. Browned potatoes all crispy and warm, eggs multiple ways, bacon, sausage, waffles, toast, biscuits, fresh fruit of various kinds. Coffee cake with apples, cranberries, orange zest, warm spices topped by a sugar crumble.*
SNOOOOWWWWW! We might get some for real and I am excited. I have no place to go an love shoveling it so I am pretty happy about it. I need to go get the snow shovels out of the garage today. I have the devices all charged, and the batteries for the leaf/light snow blower charged too.
Going to try making a curried lentil soup I think. Brown and red lentils for texture, carrots, onions, garlic, chicken stock, diced or crushed tomatoes, warm curry spices/salt/pepper. Potatoes cooked separately and added in later. Maybe coconut milk? May or may not add chicken. Depends on what is in the freezer. Also need to find the chicken stock. I know I have some in there. Should be very good with crusty bread or over rice.
Afternoon folks.
It do be snowing nice and good here. Certainly lovely to look at. Estimated 12-14 inches total today, 2-4 more tomorrow.
WoW related, about to get a 636 weapon crafted. Ended up gearing up a lot more than I thought I would…
That is a nice amount! Stay safe though. Last thing you want to do is over exert or fall. I need to keep that in mind for myself too! My knee and broken hand are still healing after that stupid fall in Oct.
That sounds so good! And I even have the ingredients. Might not have the energy - think I’m coming down with some crud that’s going around. Probably should have been masking. Anyway, hope you enjoy it!
Yeah, gotta be real careful! Love looking at snow, sure don’t love stumbling through it.
If it’s not cleared in the area I live in tomorrow, I’m sure not leaving despite appointments tomorrow. I think I got some chicken noodle soup I can cook up, although that lentil soup does sound really good. Perfect for this weather.
Sorry the injuries from that fall are still lingering. Is recovery still going smoothly?
Instant pot or crock pot? Shove things in and enjoy hearty soup for if you get sick!
Yep! As long as I don’t get too enthusiastic climbing things or lifting things. I have been trying to get walks in each day and doing some targeted exercises to strengthen the knee.
The stupid hand is just…I use it all the time so healing is slow. It will be fine though.
Hope you feel better soon.
We are having a blizzard, technically, although it isn’t the full whiteout kind of blizzard some places get. Reduced visibility, but not to where it’s impossible to drive. Wind is way up and wind chill has gone crazy low since I left home. Feel sorry for the guys getting sent out for carts.
Very not looking forward to the time I’ll be spending in the wind cleaning off my car. Again. I broke two parts of my car already! I pulled the wiper arm out of the blade. I managed to put it back (on the second try) but it doesn’t look quite right and there’s now a little extra piece. But it seemed to work and it was too cold and dark to sort it out beyond that. Then I pulled the door handle partway off trying to open it. I didn’t know that was a thing. I’m not that strong, either. I still can’t open the driver’s side door even pushing from inside, so I guess I’ll be continuing to use the passenger side until it warms up or I have time to take it to the shop. I miss covered parking!
Thanks. Usually these things don’t hit me too hard, but I am getting older, so who knows if it will start getting worse. But even when I had COVID in September, I was well enough to go back to work after the minimum isolation time, so I’m hopeful.
I have about the biggest one you can get, which means that cleaning it is an ordeal all by itself. Barely fits in the sink, and turning it all around to get it clean and rinsed is a workout. Some days vegetable prep feels like too much work. But I am going to make bread tonight or tomorrow!
/crosses fingers that power stays on
Fill it with water, a little soap, set it on low (or keep warm if you have it) and let that loosen everything up. Then it’s an easy wipe and it’s done.
It’s been another wintry day here. Cold, brutal wind, and a little snow off and on - nothing like what’s happening down south, though. Heck - it won’t amount to anything around here. Up around Traverse Bay is getting some lake effect again/still. The extent of my outside ventures today has been letting Onyx out to chase squirrels off the bird feeders (we have baffles, but they’re either defeating them or jumping from a near-ish tree). But she certainly doesn’t mind going after them…
See, I could see how this thing was shaping up, so I had shot an email over to check the inclement weather protocols for a training I had on the books for tomorrow back on Friday. I got a response back that reeked of “this sounds like a you problem…” that afternoon.
9am, here on a Sunday. She starts blowing my phone up with texts/email and then finally called when I didn’t answer her swiftly enough. I made sure to get my dig in about the email I had sent Friday and she tried to handwave it off about just trying to be optimistic. Thankfully, there is an option to Zoom train this week rather than waiting nearly a whole 'nother month to get this insulin pump set up and hooked in. That pushes 3 out of 4 appointments for the week into tele-health, and the last straggler is easily shifted about so I don’t have anywhere to be until next Sunday. So! I can veg in at home and shall see what this storm can do.
Currently standing at the 6-12+ range, but with drifting out here in the sticks? Should prove interesting. I made sure to stock up on soup-making goodness and so long as the electricity holds, I’m hoping to get a good shove of catching up in WoW accomplished. Not really done much beyond hooking everyone into Warbank, draining all my guild banks and neatening it all into two primary ones for my hoarding of older stuff, making sure all of my 70s start accruing rested XP.
Everyone in the swath of this storm, take care, stay warm and be safe!
Gas stoves for the win! No power for the oven, but the burners still light up with a match.
Boring around here. Sunny and breezy and a bit cold. No snow here. I feel left out of all the fun.
I get it. Some times it takes me days to get something made because I have to do it in steps. Sometimes when I have the mojo I cut up things like onions and peppers to have in the freezer ready to use for chili or pasta sauce. It helps me just dump it into a slow cooker and chill.
Right now I have a massive headache and I don’t know where it came from. Storm moving in maybe. This interferes with my soup plans.
EDIT
They already closed our schools for tomorrow! It has not even started snowing and we might only get a tiny bit! They are quite optimistic. I am sure the parents are thrilled though by having the heads up a day ahead of time.
/drinks all the coffee.
Back in my day … we had to wake up early to check the news ticker to see if our school was listed as closed that day.
