I feel you. We have recently had our staffing cut, though we always have more than you so we usually have a little more flexibility. But then there are days like today. When I got in at 9 we already had two call-ins, and later another just didn’t show up. And it’s a grocery store on a holiday weekend and the number of cashiers on the schedule was one or two fewer than we actually needed almost the whole day. Fortunately another department was slow and let us have someone and we had a new cashier who was extra and we have people cross trained… but there’s still a bunch of stuff that didn’t get done. By the time I left there were already 3 missing for the evening hours too, so I don’t think they probably got caught up even if things slowed down later. I’m afraid to even look at our performance measures for the day.
But hey, we’re just supposed to work smarter, not harder, or some such thing, and then we’ll magically be able to do the work of 5 people with only 3, right?

I once read a comment about the cliché “there are no problems, only opportunities” saying they would like to find the person who coined the phrase, take them up in an aircraft, and push them out, giving them the ‘opportunity’ of a lifetime.
And I love both mushrooms and onions.

Like the people trying to push Six Sigma.
I think that’s one of those things that (maybe, sometimes) kinda works at a high level, but not so much when you’re in the trenches, as it were. Like if the problem is that labor costs are too high, there’s an opportunity for someone to come up with a clever way to do things better. Let me know when you do, ok? In the meantime, I’ll be over here “enjoying” the opportunity to apologize to this customer for the wait. I will not be telling the customer that waiting in line was an opportunity for them to catch up on their social media, enjoy the time with their kids, or test out their noise-canceling headphones.
Supposed to be off today, torn between hoping they call me in (save a vacation day I scheduled accidentally) and hoping they don’t (legs, feet, and brain are all ready for a break).

Mushrooms I like. Onions only as flakes or onion salt on/in food. Love pickled onions though.

I love mushrooms and onions both. Especially together. With green peppers. And garlic.
Also Sam’s Club has the best marinated mushrooms in a jar. They’re incredible.

This sounds like some prime Tex-Mex cuisine, just saying. With beef fajita meat, fresh tortillas, maybe some toppings like guac or sour cream if you’re feeling like it.

Methinks I revealed a little too much of myself to Kal.

I promise that is not what I was doing. I see that this is a lounge and i was simply replying to your goodmorning post. I apologize if that’s how it seemed like to you. But thats the situation at hand. My day was amazing so far. I got half a level in before being rudely interrupted by a algorithm. Since now i have 24 hours to do nothing i will crank up the bbq and get some steaks going. Lemon pepper seasoning and maybe some good old sweet baby rays BBQ sauce to back it up.
I hope you all have a great rest of your day and for those of you on the grind… keep the light lit for me at the end of the tunnel. For i will rest up and be ready to tackle level 60 before Tuesday at midnight.
Thank you for your post, I just wanted to make sure. It can be very easy to derail a topic so I just want to make sure we keep this place free of any support issues
I may only have been a Blue here for a couple of years now (hecking time flies) but I’ve been with CS for 11. You are known to me

I miss Ninfa’s spicy pickled carrots. I’ve made them myself but somehow it’s not the same.
What time should I be there? Change the sweet baby rays for some Head Country and man. Mmm mmmm mmmmm

We watched Godzilla King of Monsters last night.
I love Godzilla movies. It was great. When I was a kid we watched cheesy sci-fi movies on channel 62. If it was a Godzilla movie we were in heaven. Usually it was pretty awful stuff. But it was tv and we watched anything that was on. Mostly black and white stuff. Yes I am that old.

During the bad old days of constant lay offs (down sizing, right sizing, re-engineering, euphemism of the day …) I worked for a while as software QA for a copier/duplicator product development department. The workers all had unlimited access to copiers and printers so it was impossible to control the (what would now be called memes) printed and posted everywhere.
One of my favorites was a crew shell with five coxswains and one rower with the caption “He’s still not going any faster! (perhaps if we take one oar away.)”
