[CS Lounge] Pining for the Fjords

Checked out the new game store that opened up in Austin. Spent the whole day wargaming there. Come home to find Amazon delivered a package for me. Now my computer has 32 gigs of ram.

Austin is my favorite City in Texas; Beautiful place.

As a native Austinite who left at 3 and moved back at 23 … that’s not saying much. :stuck_out_tongue:

I miss New England, aside from the snow. It’s too flat and too hot here. Also, the trees are too short.

Then again, there’s no snow here. That almost makes it worth it.

Called the Game Kastle, it’s an outfit from California that opened a store on the north side of town. Been open for about 2 weeks now. Sundays are Historical Gaming day.

When I was a kid all we had was a vhf antenna and only 2 channels; ABC & NBC and then uhf came out and we got FOX on it, Cable was unheard of back in those days.

I love New England in the warmer months but you can keep that cold stuff .
That why I like calling North Carolina home; We have beautiful mountains with ski resorts, The foothills and some beautiful beaches too and fairly mild winters with an occasional snowfall here in the piedmont but hardly any on the coast.

My dad’s from Virginia. He pretty much never saw real snow until after we moved out of Texas - I think he was 28 or so at the time. For some reason, he loves the stuff. I certainly didn’t inherit that.

I did inherit his love of Virginia/North Carolinan BBQ though. No other BBQ sauce compares.

…I’m a terrible Texan.

Amen to that on the sauce, I miss the Superbowl party we had yearly when I lived on the coast and would buy a whole pig (Cleaned of course) and cook it all night; Keg of beer; Good friends = Good Times.

The most beautiful part of Virginia to me is the Shenandoah Valley.

I only visited the national park once, when I was pretty young (somewhere between 9-12). I have to agree though.

I’ve been to Vancouver, BC and loved the City especially the nightlife, Also Calvary a couple of times but all my trips were for business so I didn’t get to take in much scenery; I did however go one winter and while driving there was a 10 foot wall of snow on each side of the road.

Ill forgive the typo for calgary since oilers are better then the flames lol.

Not to mention that we only had 1 TV. My girls always laugh that I never had several color tv’s with a whole bunch of channels growing up.

I love onions and mushrooms but they have to be cooked - the only exception is raw onions on a burger. I also hate hate raw bell pepper, cooked is OK but it has to be cut in small pieces.

For dinner tonight I made fried potatoes with peppers & onions, heavy on the Lawrys and smothered in sausage gravy and cheddar cheese. Heaven.

My favorite book series is Well of Souls by Jack Chalker. I read the series when I was pregnant with my middle kid who was named for the main character, everyone thought we named him Nathan for his dad’s submarine (USS Nathan Hale). I’m attempting to re-obtain the series for my grandsons.

I am FINALLY getting a brand new left hip on November 3rd.
I could get it done sooner if I had the surgery at the hospital 4 blocks from my house but I prefer to go the a hospital that is 20 minutes away because statistically they have a better record dealing with people with lung disease. I’ll be home in 3 days IF they can do the surgery with a spinal, with rods & pins and 5 back surgeries they may not be able to. If I have to be put under it will be 5-7 days to make sure my lung stats and respiratory labs are good.
I am super excited at the prospect of being able to walk more than 20 feet.

Happy almost Labor Day ya’ll.
May your watermelons be sweet and the sun shine on your barbecue.
