I’m at about 14k myself. It will come when it comes, I am not going to force read threads I have no interest in. I just can’t do it haha.
So, yes he did.
Agreed. Like I said somewhere above I have a few issues with the new Forum anyways. But I’m here to help people. That’s all that matters. And I have fun here in the lounge.
Besides, despite who you post on, we know you’re really the true
I do like the hat though…
Agreed. I do try to do general as well, but that is where I usually get 18 responses in and stop haha.
I nuked my SSD on my computer, trying to figure out how to recover the files, but the drive will not even boot up.
Well, who knew?
Drive died, or you formatted it?
It Died…computer refuses to see the drive. Swapped cables and everything.
Something that might work (fingers crossed) is a USB adapter for the drive. No guarantees of course, but it might be worth a shot.
And in USD, it’s probably like 5cents LOL!
I’d move it to other (known-good) connectors too, but SSDs failing is bad news.
Good luck.
Ouch! That happened to me a year ago. My comp wouldn’t even see the drive. I bought an external dock but it won’t even read the drive. No biggie, just can’t access my old tax records or photos… because why would I back things up? You think I’d learn by now.
Crisis resolved. Managed to get the drive to boot and quickly recovered the photos I thought I had lost. All is peachy now. Just have to get a new SSD down the road.
Good news!
Definitely back them up. I recommend two backups in fact, one to another hard drive (I have an external that I just use for backups) and one to somewhere online. I use Google Drive for that; it’s $19.99 a year for 100gb, and with 2FA and a complex password on my google account, I have largely complete peace of mind. My Google Account syncs as I put files into my Google Drive folder (which is where I stick Documents, Pictures, etc.) and my local backup is something like once every 8 hours.
I also recommend at least two back-ups, one of which should be an off-site. My off-site is an external drive sitting in my friend’s house. Google Drive per Belguilos is also sound.
Just make sure you don’t propagate errors (e.g. bad files) onto it.
That’ll be an issue with any backup unless I’m misunderstanding you.
One nice thing about backing up my important files to my Google Drive is that I can access them on my phone if I need/want to.
Thanks for all the tips guys!
Now I’m sorta back to the point before this silliness happened. Just have to install my production software and all that fun stuff.
That’s true, Belguilos. I had RAID in mind while I was writing that.
I’m also a little untrusting of black box (e.g. sync) solutions - beyond day to day back-ups, I like my long-term back-ups manual. Google Drive et al are a combination of both.
