Continued Disconnects while viewing Guild/Communities Chat

This is getting extremely irritating and the lack of comment from Blizzard on this issue is frustraiting.

Taking the frustration out of the post, this issues appears to only happen when opening or having open the guild/communities chat window (J). This is duplicated after verifying that all drivers are current, all addons are current. This is also duplicated with no addons installed or running. The WTF and Cache files have been deleted. The game has been repaired. None of these tasks have proven to resolve the issue.

This issue IS new as of the 8.3 patch. If I refrain from opening the chat window I can play for hours (read then entire night, 5+ hours) without issue. As soon as I start opening up the guild/communities window to reach conversations and respond the disconnects start flowing in, until I refrain from talking in game.

I’m hoping that in some small way this post will assist in identifying the root cause of this irritation and bring some peace back to the players that are experiencing it.

I’ve ran WinMTR for reference. You can easily see that there is packet loss and latency issues with the blizzard servers, specifically

Howdy!

This issue is currently under investigation by our QA and Developers. It does not appear to be impacting all users or characters. Can you try a few workarounds for me and confirm if they help:

• Try lowering your rank in the guild to lowest possible opening the community window and talking.
• Leave the guild temporarily join another with fewer members. If you know anyone in another smaller guild (Retest).

Zuvykree - Thank you for the quick response to my post.

I want to try your suggestions, but, forgive my hesitation. I’m the GM of the guild, we’ve been around and active since 2013 and we are an active mythic raiding guild. This is a bit of an extreme ask.

What I will do, is test this out on another character I have in the guild, lowering their rank and seeing what happens.

Some observations that I have experienced are that, this is most prevalent in Boralus. Though I do experience it in the Trade District auction house area in Stormwind, but less frequently. On rare occasions I experience this while out world questing. - I have never had this occur while in an instance raiding or mythic plus.

Absolutely understandable - we just wanted to provide you with our known workarounds for a bug under investigation. We don’t consider the above a ‘fix’ - just a way to diagnose the issue. Please let us know if it works on your lower ranked characters. If it doesn’t, let us know and we can rule that bug out as the cause.

Alright, so an update - sorry for the delay.

I demoted one of my alts to the lowest rank in the guild. Rank 10. The disconnects are less frequent, but still happen from time to time. I now also notice pausing/freezing of the game sometimes when people come online. That could be unrelated as I just noticed that tonight.

On topic though, the disconnecting does still happen at the lowest rank. However it is less frequent.

Another observation is previously my alt was at rank 4 in the guild. Non of the other players at Rank 4 had the disconnecting issues. Not sure if this is something just related to being the account of a GM of the guild or what.

I currently do not play my other alts as much to be able to add commentary from any of them.

Hopefully this adds some value to the conversation.

Still seeing latency issues with 'ae1-br01-eqch2.as57976.net' though no packet loss this time.

In addition, I switched the GM of the guild to a different character of mine and the disconnects happen with them.

Two questions, the team might have thought about, but may not have.

• Is this limited to players who have linked accounts?

• Are players who post/edit the guilds recruitment message in the in-game recruitment screen more/less/only ones impacted?

So I had two accounts unlinked logged into the same PC at the same time, standing it the same spot in boralus. The GM account was disconnected while the Rank 9 was not.

We’re pretty sure this is a bug and not connectivity related. It’s been forwarded along. Some of us got some reports of it a bit ago and logged into the accounts. We’re even able to reproduce it on our end for affected accounts. Now the trick is QA figuring out a way to reproduce it on test clients with custom made guilds and such. Appreciate all the info!

Any updated by chance? The issue is getting worse and is now occurring in instances.

Now the issue is becoming even more rampant. It is occurring inside of instances, like raids, while forming, though doesn’t not occur once we start pulling until I leave the instance.

It seems like as long as I do not have officer capabilities in the guild I do not have the issue.

Some thoughts as well, I know you identified how to reproduce this on retail but not qa is it possible this has something to do with a guild that has realm transferred in the past? - When we moved the guild there were issues with not being able to promote anyone to ranks 1 or 2. We were told to live with it or delete the guild and start over.

Hey all, We’ve been able to reproduce this and wanted to bump the thread with that information. Devs are on it. We don’t have an ETA on a fix yet, but thanks to the data we got from the threads on this and some reports from players, we identified some common threads.
