It’s not like we are paying for game time or anything

Why is troubleshooting taking 7+ hours and being done during a time that effects users, instead of simply reverting back to a working version and figuring it out on your own time?

take a deep breath, we’ll get through this together

Hey folks,

Just a bit of an update. I received word that they feel they are getting to the finish line, but they don’t think they will make it by 2 pm PDT.

We’re updating the Breaking News to 3 PM PDT, but hopefully it won’t be much beyond 2. We’ll keep everyone updated.

Wrong WOTLK shut half the realms down for 1 day for prepatch stuff next day for the rest. Lets not forget the lizard squad DDOS that caused as much mayhem.

The assumptuon that this could simply be software related makes me giggle.

Maintenence is not just software updates. It is checking server integrity, changing blades and other hardware, and a whole list of things that are only privy to Bluzzard.

a new parent company isnt likely to change the entire course of an expansions development before it launches… but they are likely to change the direction while the expansion is out. your example of rose tinted glasses doesnt work when the things people complain about in wow were added in wotlk (paid services to name one, cash shop), and what he said was correct, failing SINCE wotlk. nothing he said was wrong here

It’s been stated by a blizzard employee that it was software related.

Know what game doesn’t have downtime? Skyrim. (This message brought to you by Todd Howard.)

Killed 6 plus hours of gametime to hotfix something from Vanilla classic? Hmmm. Very interesting grasshoppa. But foolish.

pretty sure with that blue post it confirms that TBC characters are linked to classic ones. when they deleted the classic ones it broke the link to the TBC ones. Gotta restore an old version of classic to re-establish that link and then split them off correctly just to get rid of old classic characters. smh

I was an adventurer just like you, but then I took a maintenance update to the knee.

I laughed because youre right. This is pathetic.

Was there also technical issues that prevented announcements on bnet? Only place there was one at first was Classic, no banner at first on TBC.
Was there also technical issues on social media pages announcing any information at all before a couple hours had passed?
Why not just post an update like this from the get go? You know rather than 1 hour, 1 more hour, and another hour.

You know basic communication. Don’t need the details of this or that like others demand like it’s going to make a difference but after that first added hour just say “we are working on a fix but currently have no eta, thank you for your understanding”

It’s THAT simple.

zero contingency planning.

Did anybody suggest stopping the change, rolling back, and bringing the service back up? And then investigating what went wrong while users can actually play the game?

If that’s at all possible, and they aren’t doing it, it means that y’all are prioritizing some arbitrary deploy deadline over your actual users. If it isn’t possible, it means your deployment practices are really immature and dangerous.
