So, most of my alts I leveled up to 80 are from mop remix, which means they never saw any content before 70. When I take them to the Shadowlands (by picking the quest from Bolvar and then selecting skip cutscenes from Whitemane) I get teleported to Oribos, everything turns a single color and then an npc approaches; I know it is here that you’re giving the option to either skip the storyline or do the complete campaign.
Well, it happens that nothing happens. The npc approaches and nothing pops, no dialogue, no window to select from and when you click on said npc, it has a random text but nothing to click on. When this happened to me yesterday (after patch) I relogged and then I noticed the system had taken the default option to “do the storyline all over again”.
This is an extremely frustrating issue since I do not desire to that storyline again. All I wanted to do is the old raids to collect transmogs but now I’m completely gated from the raid in The Maw and Zereth Mortis, unless I do the entirety of the campaign which I’m not doing lol (it is way too extense to start it over).
But that’s for alts ranging from 1-79. I wanted to skip it with my two 80 alts. I really think it’s bugged and not intended, since you literally have to relog when you port to Oribos after you’ve skipped the the maw from Bolvar/Ebola blade.
Doesn’t sound right having to relog to make the game work.
Its for alts that are 70 and nothing more. Not 71 or 75, but 70. As the post says, you can’t do it at levels above that, including 80.
Here is the fact: Blizzard said the following:
Developers’ notes: The goal with Threads of Fate was to help alleviate the linear path of Shadowlands for alts as it was the only way for players to level from 50 to 60. Now that Shadowlands has been moved into Chromie time and Chromie Time’s level cap has been increased to 60, players have a multitude of methods to reach level 60. Players currently in Threads of fate can continue through it, but the option will not be available for any new characters.
So their intent was to stop any use of Threads of Fate for new characters. The level 70 option to use it was effectively a workaround.
Its possible that with the shift of having the new levelling experience moved from Shadowlands to Dragonflight, that could open the ToF workaround for an 80. However, the OP may have been locked out by logging off - I’m not a tech so I cant tell.
As I stated on my post, I did it after the patch yesterday unsuccessfully and tried again with another toon today with no luck. Both characters are now tied to the Shadowlands campaign.
The npc that approaches you never gave me the option to skip. It literally froze me after taking the skip from Bolvar, the npc approached and nothing happened. Had to relog to make any action at all, and it was there that the system picked “not to skip but to do the campaign on its own”.
Happened yesterday post-patch and today.
That is precisely what happened. I had to do it since there was no other way. Couldn’t perform any action, was literally locked there staring at the npc that is suppose to offer you 'Threads of Fate".
My understanding was that you could not pick it for leveling and at the time (Dragonflight), Shadowlands stopped at level 60, which was the cap when it was current. However on characters that were level 60 or higher, you could do it as long as you never touched a piece of Shadowlands content prior. Including learning the flight points from the toy. Since it was no longer “leveling content”. This continued into TWW until now.
If it is intentional, I really hate that Blizzard refused to even put it on the patch notes. I hate it when they intentionally do changes but they are too gutless to actually admit it. I feel the HoA change so that essences no longer function in pre-BFA content is the same as this. A deliberate change that Blizzard refuses to admit that it was.
Thing is, they never acknowledged anyone could do that. Their only statements, both previously and on their support pages, was that Threads of Fate could only be completed if your character had already started it during Shadowlands, but could not be picked as a game option otherwise. So they said no, you can’t, and yet people like me and Sendryn and others tested it and found there was apparently some form of workaround that let you.
It seems to have been done because Shadowlands became a Chrome time option which had people doing it at very low levels, effectively phased out from the rest of the game. I’m not a software person but I presume there would have been clashing going on when you took a level 12 into an expansion previously played through at much higher levels and they wanted those players to only be able to do the campaigns, so they made it that everyone had to do it to avoid conflict.
Now, I dunno. I doubt they deliberately removed the bar to doing it, I think the workaround has just been ‘extended’ somehow? I think in the OP’s case, doing it at 80 might be the problem now, or perhaps it is bugged even at that level since others have said they’ve done it at 80.
I just had the same issue on this 72 hunter that was pretty much fresh out of Timerunning. Did the skip option from Bolvar, was ported to Oribos, trapped by the Fatescribe with no options either way. Relogged and it looks like I’m forced into the campaign, which I’m not doing.
I hope they fix this or at least add a skip option at some point after. Shadowlands skips have always been very messy, imo, but at least they worked.
At this point they need to re add it for all characters, this is the expansion before last now. We can fully skip DF on alts, we can fully skip campaign on alts in TWW also.
