Ban Culture of 2024/2025

Except it has not. I know the assertion is that all the suspensions we get are somehow automated. No, they are not. Squelches are pending GM review. They do use an auto responder when ticket times are high based on key words. It sometimes sucks, but re-opening can usually get a better answer if it is something a GM can help with.

The actual penalties are based off the chat logs attached to the reports and are applied by a GM. Duration is based on the number of past confirmed penalties on the account.

I feel like we get these almost daily. Last night someone wrote a huge post about the automated mass report system and how unfair it was. Blue chimes in and pointes out that no, the reports were accurate and the person had inappropriate content in their RP profile. That it had nothing to do with “mass reports”.

The Blue also explained more about the system that used to include text quotes in the penalty email and discuses how it is broken right now. It would be better if folks got those text quotes along with the penalty! It would help prevent some of the false stories that go around.

Oh, and if someone tells their followers to report them, it will get them auto squelched. That has been in game for gold spammers for well over a decade. But the Suspension? That was applied by a GM for abusing the reporting system.

Today’s “no, it is not mass reporting you actually did something wrong” thread.

It’s amazing how many still try to push that propaganda. Do they not read discord?m

Trolls saying “well blue said”. Confirmation bias and gullibility at its peak. How naive do they think people are?

Squelchs are a step to far already though… restricting grouping is nine tenth of a ban for a lot of players.

I don’t believe any action should be taken without human review at a minimum.

Without a competent human review. Not some entry level, minimum wage employee who’s just rubber stamping to empty their queue. That’s the kicker, “a human has to look at it” but that doesn’t mean it’s a competent one.

I agree… I still kept the email from a gm who didn’t even copy paste the response properly to a ticket and threatened account actions if resubmitted.

Some gms do suck. Overall they seem good and im not going to let one negative experience color all of them. Just… it sticks with you.

If you had a good interaction, that’s awesome and I wish more did. I’ve not had a good one since the start of WoD. My last ticket was a response about a completely different game that the one I selected, one I don’t even play. Reopened trying to explain that and was told I would get a penalty if I reopened a ticket and then at the end said “if you’re still experiencing issues, please reopen a ticket”. :man_facepalming:

Whoever programmed that AI needs coffee.

Try putting tickets into the EU site. Did it by accident once and the quality is night and day. Forum customer service is another route to go if you don’t mind a public response.

I’ve heard that many times. I’ve browsed their forums too and it does seem a ton better. Their blues are helpful and don’t brigade people. Their greens are not useless shills trying to constantly push phony propaganda. There aren’t as many trolls.

I’d move there if I could.

Im assuming exaggeration for effect but its a online discussion Poe’s law is in effect.

hey when you go extremes lets just say screw it and go full bore! You want extremes agisnt me?! LET’S FACEOFF!

The kicker is that we’ve seen live streams of the mass reporting silences happening and yet those same people still insist that a human reviewed everything and applied the penalty within 30 seconds.

You have most certainly seen someone prove that Squelches work based on the number of unique reports in a time period. Nobody has ever suggested otherwise. You are trying to pretend that the Squelch is an actual applied penalty though like a Silence or Suspension which it is not. You have been told that many many times and yet you still repeat the misleading information.

Did you get a timeout? Do you know someone that got a timeout?

Whenever I see this topic posted I think it is disingenuous. Bans are serious business. I am slightly suspect the whole story isn’t known.

I can contrive a number of scenarios where someone might think it’s okay to do the thing in this situation but really it’s not and they should be removed from the environment.

I think in short… don’t get upset if you get a ban because what you’re doing is garbage. Take responsibility for your actions and learn to be better. (using “you” in the general sense, not toward the author).

Believe me, I wish.

There has been numerous amounts of proof.

People who say otherwise are just gaslighting to push their propaganda because they know there are naive people out there. I’ve seen examples where you know there is no competent person who would do that, common sense.

Blizz should add a checkbox in settings that says “Ignore All Players” and it would be just like a 1 player game in which nobody has anything to say to you.

If it’s hidden, I’m not missing anything, if you want to get technical. It’s like having a roomba for the forums. I don’t waste my time on trolls. It just packs the forum full of frivolous and superfluous statements that add no value other than to wind people up and forces onlookers to have that much more to scroll through.

Just to add to this because I was squelched a few times in early solo queue days but chat banned just once and it was over turned on review.

The way you appeal each is different. A squelch just gives you a standard template to open a ticket for. A chat violation shows you a transcript of what lines of texts were reported and asks you to review them before proceeding.

In my case the box was full of “kill X” pvp calls and " X is the weak player ". Both normal call outs that were overturned.

If your log is full of slurs…well its less likely.
