So, every time I encounter Watcher Irideus, I face HORRIBLE drops in performance. Especially when the puddles come out, FPS drops and lag is rampant.
In order to get it remotely playable, I have to close out every other application on my computer. As well as make sure I’m not logging. But even still there is a noticeable drop in FPS.
This is the only encounter this happens for me. All other Season 2 dungeons don’t have any issues. Never had this issue Season 1. Doesn’t happen at all during any raids with 20-30 people.
Only on Watcher Irideus.
Is it just me…? Or is this encounter making other computers struggle too? <.< (I’ve already dropped all my settings as low as they can reasonably go - but even still - goodbye FPS).
I don’t know the spec off hand - I use a gaming laptop for what its worth - but have never had any issues. It baffles me.
Happy to hear I’m not the only one. Now that I know it’s not just me, I might pop over to the bug / issues forums…
I avoid Halls at all cost. And when I do run it, I wait for the phase I know it lags - pop my paladin bubble - and pray that the lag only lasts for 8 seconds (spoiler - it usually doesn’t).
I’m curious if it’ll be any better on Fort weeks - I should try it some time this week lol <.<
But similar to Thequixote - once its over - everything is fine. Back to normal.
Never had an issue on that boss in S1 when I did it on heroic.
I keep having massive machine lag on this boss as well, and only this boss. Last season, I had similar lag with Hyrja’s lightning in Halls of Valor. My drivers are updated.
I haven’t had issues with the last boss on UR. It only seems to happen with electrical puddles.
Though, interestingly, after running Halls I was SUPER paranoid going into VP. But no issues.
I noticed there has been mild performance drops with other similar puddles to Watcher Irideus - but nothing to the extent of the performance drops during his encounter.
It’s something to do with the way WoW renders it’s cloud/particles/fog effects…I noticed with any fight that has a lot of particles or anything that covers the ground, my fps tanks…this has been going on for a few expansions now
Yeah - I’m pretty sure it has to do with the way it renders cloud / particle / fog effects. This week I noticed it happened slightly during the intermission phase of Rashok the Elder in raid. However, no where near the extent of Watcher Irideus.
Same with Vortex Pinnacle and all the stuff on the ground there - occasionally I get a little jumpy frames - but nothing to the extend of HoI.
Reposting as I didn’t realize it was on the wrong character.
Also wondering if anyone here found a solution to this as I was lagging badly on the bosses that have that “cloudy” texture in the fight in HOI last night. It doesn’t happen in any other dungeon. I am also playing on a laptop although it’s a newer gaming one.
Yeah i had under 20 fps slideshow(i was afraid i’d die here… hardest part of the dungeon for me) on that fight with my RTX 2060… i upgraded 2 weeks ago to a 4070ti and no more issues.
Something is really draining stuff there, when he throws up the stuff in the air the drop happened, i never had issues on Rasz though, so the puddles weren’t it for me.
I don’t think it’s a “You need a better card” issue. It appears to be an issue with a specific setting or driver for a family of cards. I had an GTX 960 during rasz prog and it was never an issue. People with better cards than me were saying they were having issues.
No, i’d never advocate for a better card to solve an obvious issue with the game.
Blizz really needs to step up their game testing and resolve this type of stuff.
Yeah i never had issues with Rasz… but i did with this boss in HoI, and i didn’t change settings between them.
There’s definitely an issue there that needs fixing to optimize the fight.
I’d even say as much as disabling the mechanic causing it until it’s fixed… not fair that i(and anybody else) should die due to a game issue cause fps drops.
As mentioned, for me it was not just the last boss. It was any of the ones with “cloudy” or “frosty” in them. The frog is not a problem. I also notice that my laptop gets scary hot (even with a cooling pad) in that dungeon even when compared to raiding.
Thus far my strategy for the place has been to mostly avoid the place or just pray that things don’t hit me while I am lagged out if I do go but that’s not going to cut it for higher keys.
At least I know it’s not just me I guess. I’ll also keep in mind that it does seem like it’s certain textures on a family of video cards (one of which I am also using RTX 3060) that is incompatible when I am shopping for new stuff.
