I had started a converstation over in GD about this topic →
And it seems that a few people are experiencing the same issue that I am. Not sure if this is a known or expected thing. But during the electrical puddle phase of Watcher Irideus I get hit with a decrease in performance during the encounter. FPS drops and there is significant delay / lag.
In order to get it remotely playable, I have to close out of every other application on my computer. But still have noticeable issues. All of my graphics settings are set as low as they can reasonably go, but this is still an issue.
This ONLY happens during Watcher Irideus. This hasn’t happened in any other season 2 (or 1) dungeon. Hasn’t happened in either DF raid. And I don’t notice an issue in Halls of Infusion before or after Watcher Irideus. Only during his encounter. Once the fight is over, I no longer have issues.
I am experiencing the same issues. I haven’t figured anything out yet. It’s resulted in deaths in M+ and is very frustrating, especially when it is only happening in the middle of Irideus’s platform.
I have massive frame drops running from the swirlies here and more mildly during the gauntlet, as well. The rest of the dungeon seems fine. I’m on a Mac, though so I initially assumed it was just some of the compatibility issues there (they always seem to mess up something for Mac every patch). I believe I have seen other players bring this up in the dungeon forum before, too. I have the same issue in the raid on Rashok when the lines of fire swirlies come out when he’s in the middle of the room. My settings are on the low end, already, with particle density at the lowest setting (disabled means I can’t see portals and some other important effects).
Came back here to add that I also have this problem on the first boss on Vortex Pinnacle. The lightning puddles come up and and I feel pretty usless. Feels even worse than the HOI boss since at least on Irideus I generally just move away and pray. The group I run with stacked the puddles at the bottom of the stairs on top of each other then ran out. That helped a good bit because the puddles were isolated to one area.
But, with VP I have to purposefully dodge the big puddles and the small moving orbs by moving around carefully which is hard enough for me without lag haha. I can easily die on a higher key as a result.
I do have some issues near certain braziers while in hallways in Neltharus, but it’s much less problematic than on a boss fight particularly during tyrannical week. I think that particular issue is possibly Mac specific as it only started with a recent patch.
After initially posting this - I’ve been paying extra attention to other dungeons - and for me too, the first boss of VP does have lag.
Though it’s not as bad - the only lag spike is at the very start when all the puddles come out. Once they are out and moving, everything is fine and dandy. The lag spike recovers in under a second for me and my game play is not affected. I just have to be smart about positioning
Seems to be those dark blue lightening puddles that cause issues …
It’s possibly a Mac issue or some other limitation causing them to be so bad on my end, the only relief I have is the short intermission when all the puddles go into the boss. Once they come back out it’s rough again. Glad we can at least commiserate and compare!
I also have this issue! They use the same slime puddle graphics on the early Aberrus trash between amalgam and experiments, I have the same problem there, too.
Same thing happens to me. Whenever the blue swirlies come out on that fight my frames drop from 144 to about 20fps. I manage but if there’s some fix for it that would be nice.
